Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Not sure what I am saying here other than I thought after 3 months LCHF I would be having the same 4s and 5s that others are seeing on here :(
Maybe not - you might just have a robust dawn response, I think that I do too, I'm often notably higher the following morning than I am at bedtime and the longer I potter about before I have breakfast, the higher it goes too. Obviously your evening meal the night before is responsible. I tend to eat too late due to commitments by my husband (and I refuse to eat separately) and that's not a good practice when it's probably my biggest meal and I'm not as active after it than earlier in the day. So that might be just how it is for you, depending on your circumstances.

And being poorly will certainly pay havoc with your BG, you'll not doubt see lower readings once you're recovered. As will stress, so please don't fixate on the numbers too much.

7.6 I have been LCHF since diagnosis in mid March - have lost nearly three stone and my bs has been coming down - but I just cant get the morning fasting reading below 6.5 and mostly it is in the 7's. This week I have had an upset stomach and my bs is all over the place so yesterday my fasting bs was in the 9s... this makes me so anxious which I think then makes my bs go even higher? Please continue with LCHF.
In a short while, you will see more improvements.

If you are physically up to it, exercising speeds up this process.

It certainly helps me and many others on here. :-)

Hola @Reades

Fret not - it takes a while to get it right and even then sh~t happens! I'm only a year into my journey on the diabetes express and we have loads of people on here who are fighting their own fight in a way that works for them and are willing to offer their help and support. It's not a competition but I know what you mean - I would have 'died' for a 4 or 5 three months in!

Please forgive the gallows humour - it is Friday after all.

You've done brilliantly to lose all that weight and should focus yourself on the positives (often easier said than done, I know)

How low are you going with your carbs? I found that I only saw really good figures (low 5s / 4s) after I did the following:

1) Stopped having milk in my coffee
2) Cut down to less than 20g of carbs a day with less than 10 in a single meal
3) Didn't eat anything after 8:00pm at night

thank you all so much :) I don't think I have quite worked out what works for me yet - I must admit I was wondering whether to switch my meals around and have my bigger meal (which is still quite small) at lunch and the snack for tea to see if that worked... its all trial and error - and keeping perspective I had a fasting bs of 13.9 at diagnosis so things are definitely going in the right direction! I do love this site - not sure where I would have been without it x

I am using almond milk in 90% of my coffee but struggle in work meetings - maybe should start taking my own little flask with me everywhere I go - it is worth being thought odd to be healthy :) I havent had any bread, rice, pasta or anything since the day of diagnosis - cold turkey it was for me - only carbs are from vegetables... but I must admit, I havent been very good at writing everything down which may give me better focus as maybe things that I shouldnt eat are sneaking in without me realising... I do love Cauliflower Rice!! The not eating after 8.00 pm is good advice - I am a nibbler and have been eating nuts and pumpkin seeds - so will stop that and see what happens. I do feel so much better, my husband thinks he has got a new wife - or certainly his old one back, so I know I need to calm down a little. Just frightened of the consequences of not getting control - particularly my eyes...

Indeed, you've already done really well. And it's better to drop steadily too - you'll feel better with a gradual reduction.

This condition is very personal and we each have to figure out what works for us - there is no 'one-size-fits-all' solution. I think you're now at the stage of fine tuning the details having broken the back of it.

I think it's because your liver is still full of Glycogen and although it's quite normal for the liver to regularly convert glycogen into blood sugar, T2s' livers produced too much. Keep at it and I'm sure you'll make a breakthrough.

Off topic I know but some in this thread were interested in my latest blood test numbers - it's all in my sig but in case you can't see that:

5th June 2015 (November 2014) Total Cholesterol 4.1 (3.6), HDL 1.49 (0.84), LDL 2.26 (2.32), Triglyceride 0.78 (0.97), Total cholesterol/HDL ratio 2.6 (4.3), TG/HDL ratio (European figures) 0.52 (1.15), Non HDL 2.6 (not sure what the original figure was).

HbA1c reconfirmed at 33/5.2% :)

So eating all that fat and dumping the carbs has improved all my cholesterol numbers apart from total serum cholesterol which is slightly up but still well within the normal range :)

Particularly pleased that my triglycerides have reduced and good HDL risen nicely.

I still feel I can optimise my diet more and consume more EPA and DHA.

But overall - really pleased :)

I know it's afternoon, but have had a busy day. Morning fasting BS 7.3; after breakfast, cleaning church then went to Curves gym; before lunch BS 4.5 - this is the only time of day my BS levels are that low.

6.8 this am but an hr later than normal as had a much earned lie in. Was 6 before going to bed so not too much of a rise. I'm not going to get het up albeit I'd like them below 6 they are well within the guidelines.

Really good results. Your diet is obviously very healthy.

As most people know I have a dairy allergy, find most main coffee shops and bigger M&S cafés do soya milk. I have bought a drinks bottle with reusable ice stick so use that for my milk when out. I take my own milk to work.
