Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

What are you eating at the moment, chrissie1stella? You could maybe start off by reducing your carb intake - say to 150g or 100g a day, see how you go on that, and take your carbs lower if it seems to suit you.

You'll need to buy a Carb Counter book - Collins have a pretty good, pocket-sized one in their Gem series.

As you'll have probably gathered, some of us on here are very happy on a very-low-carb diet. I aim for below 50g daily, and preferably around 30g. I'm 18 months in to it this time, and all my blood tests are fine. My GP knows I'm doing it and he's happy too!

Other people prefer to eat more carbs but stick to the low GI ones, which affect blood glucose more slowly. Grazer, for instance, aims for about 150g a day and does very well on that.

Have a read around on the Low-carb forum on here, and get some info from that. The diet I use (Viv's Modified Atkins Diet) is a sticky thread on there. Also look at the Non-low carb forum and see what other people do, so you can make your mind up.

Don't be afraid to ask more questions - people are only too willing to help! :D

5.5 at 08:00 on 27th.

4.7 at 08:00 yesterday (28th).

5.4 at 09:00 today - after chasing chickens out of the garden. Not the same chickens as in the summer - I think I'm being targeted!

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

usually mid 5's but for last few days has been mid 6's, mind you I have got my first signs of sinusitis that I always suffer from this time of year, so putting the increase down to that but keeping a wary eye on it.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

5.3 fasting.

4.8 two hours post-breakfast.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

7.2 after scoffing a big bag of mixed salted roasted nuts at about 8.30 last night.

Unbelievable 1290 calories but only 22g carbs (just fished bag out of bin!)

Only meant to have a handful but got carried away.

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

29/10 5,2
30/10 5.7
31/10 5.7
1/11 5.9
2/11 6.2
3/11 5.7
4/11 6.9 breakfast +2 5.2

Not sure what happened over the last few days although I do have a cold which has had a knock on effect of my not going swimming or to the gym. Yesterday was particularly slotheful! I'm sure I havent increased my carbohydrate this week but have had slightly more cheese. Also, last night I had a 7.3 reading 2 hours after my dinner which I havent had since I started monitoring my bsl :( I think I wil have to bite the bullet today!

Out of interest do blood sugar levels rise in people without diabetes when they have cold or infections?

And I thought I was doing well - bother!

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

It's probably the cold which is responsible for the higher readings, Ian, though they're not that bad - all within the fasting target of 4 - 7 (just, in one case! ) so I wouldn't worry too much.

I don't know about non-diabetics and raised BGs due to infection - but I would say yes, probably - one of the reasons why they always re-test us before diagnosis?

Hope you're feeling better now :D

Re: Type 2's : What was your fasting blood glucose in a morn

Thank you Viv. I'm hoping it is my cold. I was a little disappointed having, at least I thought so, worked hard at getting them down the low carb way. Still, its early days and I just need to keep chipping away at my weight and increasing my fitness.
