As you said to me yesterday - you'll bounce back![]()
I wonder if it's related to not getting much sleep last night - very tired, dozed off during Springwatch, but later couldn't get to sleep and then had to get up early.
my sugars before breakfast were 7 but been going steadily up all dayI wonder if it's related to not getting much sleep last night - very tired, dozed off during Springwatch, but later couldn't get to sleep and then had to get up early.
Hi, newbie here.
I have had diabetes II for at least 5 years (possibly more!!?, I honestly can't remember when I was told)
I didn't really take any notice, interest except I kept taking the pills - metformin,(6x500g), gliclazide (1/day) and byetta then bydureon.
1 month ago I noted a blurriness in my vision and at the same time the hospital called me to further investigate my retinopathy results.
I became a little (lot) scared and started to investigate what was actually happening - Blood sugar 101 and Dr Bernstein later I am now on a low carb diet and have come off meds, except metformin which I have lowered due to a dry cough (I thought it was Ramipril)
Anyway my morning highs are frustrating - from 7 to 8, occasionally higher. It takes all day to get them back down to the 5s, I occasionally get to the 4s, but then I have to eat at some time, which generally slows the decline back to "normality".
I did a few experiments monitoring my bg every hour during the night and noted that bg dropped nicely until about 1-2pm and then began a relentless drive upwards till about 9am. Having metformin at different times and doses during the night did cause a delay, but eventually I still got the spike.
Saw the doc this morning to ask about taking a basal insulin - levemir say - but he wouldn't prescribe it, says morning spikes are normal, even in "normal" people. really!!
It's frustrating. I am doing all this hard work, when I am dying for a sandwich! and my body won't play ball! doh.
:a wry smile

It could be that you suffer with the dawn phenomenon, you can't stop your liver doing that to you, but some of us are trying. You jump to conclusions so quickly Deb, you need to open your mind more and take in all information that's on here. It seems to me you've read a couple of threads and are taking that information as gospel. You are only pre diabetic, so you don't have meds to alter your FBG. stop stressing that it's this or that to blame. I'd be very suprised if your soup yesterday caused your high/er reading this morning. The more dogged you follow something, the more you'll get frustrated. There isn't a one size fits all, keep an open mind and read a lot more before you think you've "got it", 'cos when you get a high/er reading than you were expecting, you're demoralised, like getting on weighing scales and despite you doing all you could to loose, you've put weight on, or stayed the same. These morning figures are not your fault necessarily, don't be hard on yourself or jump to conclusions why you have had a high/er figure. Brunnaria has done some experimenting lately, check out what she has been doing, you'll soon realise it's a harder to control than you think. The one thing I do know, stressing about it will make you worse. Chill dear.6.5
I'm annoyed at that! Must have been the double carbs yesterday.

Diagnosed prediabetic Easter 2014. Just left to get on with it, no guidance or help from GP. Every day I'm learning something new.
Yes I agree with lunarlinda. it could actually be a good sign that your liver is clearing out more of its stored glucose supply because you have been doing so well, and it can therefore 'afford' to use some up. This happened with me in the early days of low carbing but did settle down eventually. I often found that my fasting BGs were better when I had 'messed up' my diet and worse when I was 'good'. Just keep on with what you are doing and I am sure it will sort itself out. And I agree - don't stress. You are doing really well.6.5
