I didn't know that. Level was high so I thought they would be ok. Have to lose weight as well. Dieting and blood glucose don't work together then.

Dieting and blood gkucise control can go hand in hand. You need to make the right choices by your meter. Most of us have lost substantial amounts of weight upping fats and cutting out the carbs as far as possible. I know it seems counterintuitive after years of low fat advice but low fat products are on full of sugar

Thought I was doing right in having low carb, low fat,low sugar.
low sugar , low carb and enough fat to keep you full is what I've gone for . Others do higher fat, some do more or less carbs. I've found staying around 1200 calories has shifted the weight and I eat pretty well on that. If you low fat and low carb you'll be hungry

Mine was 7.3, 11.3 2 hours after breakfast, forgot to do it before lunch, but did it 2 hours after and it was 9.1 but I'm still not feeling right still feel sick got stomach pains galore, still got a headache and I keep shivering even though I don't feel cold,is this normal.

Well its now 2 hours after my lunch and its reading 7.0....before lunch it was 8.7.
Well just took another reading, now before dinner and its down to 6.0........

A spike of 4 mmol because of breakfast is quite high. What do you have? Cereals?
Your symptoms could be false hypos if you were used to running much higher glucose levels previously but your current levels seem a bit high for that.

I had 2 pieces of wholemeal bread toasted,my levels when first diagnosed was 14.4 and 104

So stay low on carbs and sugar, and go higher in fat your saying? and yes im always still hungry, but i expected that with dieting. My calorie count is about the same as you, 1000 to 1200.

Two slices of bread is probably more than you can handle given the spike. I know it is more than I can manage without spiking.

If the next time you have two slices of bread you get a similar spike, confirm your reading by testing again after washing hands, and either give up on toast all together or reduce to one slice. Have some cheese with it instead or go for a less carby breakfast like eggs.

Most of us here do not eat bread because of the high carb content. Breads such as bugen is much lower and others are available. Also cut down and only have one slice. Normal bread sends my bg sky high

I do sometimes have bacon and eggs but don't have time to cook it every day, will try 1 slice see how that goes,I was told to be careful what cereals to avoid think it was all Kellogg's but was trying to take in so much when I saw the nurse.

5g of carbohydrates per 100g is the target. Not always achievable in fact it's hard to do. Always read the label and keep as low as you can.. some on here only have 50g carbohydrate a day. I aim for around 100ish but not anal about it. Depends on my meter reading before I eat.

Cereal is up in the 50+ per 100g. Not really a choice for most of us. Total. Greek yogurt is around 5.5. Lot of us go for yogurt with a few berries for breakfast

A useful rule of thumb is that if your level two hours after a meal is more than 2mmol higher than your level before then your meal had too many carbs

Hi folks. Still on holiday with slow slow connection. Just need to tell you I had lunch in a cafe with limited choice. I had double egg and chips with a slice of white toast. Cup of tea. Not able to test until 2.5hrs. A horrendous 10.1 average of 3 tests.. I haven't been up there since May, and never been that high at 2.5hrs ever. Disgusted with myself. But I did enjoy it :-) :-) :-) :-) and I had my best fasting this morning' 5.1. Readings all week so far have been excellent until lunch today :-) :-) :-)
