Well done you! They are coming down. Your 20g a day carbs is working. Did you get Atkins flu when you started (feeling grotty and headachey for a few days)? If so I hope it's passed and you have loads of energy now. It's brilliant to see a newly diagnosed members figures coming down.

i am being a naughty girl...13.2 this morning...yesterday was a bit...well a lot so i kindof went on a carb fest....

I am wondering about the effects of menopause on bs, but will start a new thread about that.

Well done Steve - if you do get "Atkins flu". make sure you're drinking plenty of water.

As for stopping smoking vs low-carbing, Claymic - well, with the smoking you could always eat biscuits and sweets instead of having a ciggie! :lol: :wink: . When I stopped smoking I took up knitting, to have something to do with my hands. Don't think it would help with carbs . . . :crazy:

Congratulations, Didie. Maybe you've broken through the insulin resistance barrier? I'm beginning to suspect that I have - I've barely been outside the non-diabetic range for months.

PS the smiley on my signature is supposed to mean 'cool', not 'smug'! I'm not smug! being able to cope with a few more carbs means I'm having problems with the weight loss .

My last blood test had me at 8.8 ...up 2 points from 6.8. By the way my GP still insists that I have no need whatsoever to monitor my bg at home..anyone any thoughts on that.....?

5.0 and a fungal infection that is repulsive beyond description. Ian...if possible get a new GP. I had one who was using pee sticks for diagnosis ( ie only shows positive over 10 if I am correct). Testing at home is the best way to take control.

I think you would be hard pressed to find any one here who would say you don't need to monitor at home. Getting a meter and test, test, test is one of the very first things a newly diagnosed diabetic should do.

mine was 8.9 this morning, trying to get it down as i have a big op coming up in a couple of weeks. it can be lower in middle of night but higher on getting up.... i am not sure i will ever really get to understand this condition even though i have had it for over 10 years and been on insulin for 6 yrs.

Tina, I can't really suggest anything as I don't take any medication for my diabetes.

I'm 4.9 this morning which is nice. I was expecting it to be higher as I had minor surgery yesterday and am a bit sore this morning.
