Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

Had my second 3 month visit to the doc yesterday (results Monday but he's confident I've dropped again) and found out he's MUCH more of an expert on this topic than I would have possibly imagined.

Turned out he got his training from a Type 1 Doc who's lived (and continues to lives with this) since birth 70 years back.

So time to open up with him with all these little niggling feelings I've had with my fluctuating BS readings. He could not have cared less .... told me to ignore ANY one hour reading (provided they weren't ridiculous and he was happy as long they were below 9 or 10) as they're useless but it was and is about the 2 hour and beyond drop; that said, he couldn't believe my sudden drops after minimal exercise.

Interesting stuff I can tell you. He supported the LCHF approach, took a LONG look at me and was supremely confident my HB1AC would record another major drop into the non diabetic range. We shall see :)

So on this same theme as to what levels T2 should try to attain, we come to the normal conclusion, we are each individual's and as such like most things in life are all different.

Personally I'm to new to all this to have a valid opinion , however currently if I can keep-in the non diabetic range I am happy,
Whether this is right or wrong I don't know , but what I do know is the mind is a powerful tool and if im happy my body is likely to be happy too, not scientific but that's the way I roll.

Have a super evening everyone, just off to the dining room to have fillet steak, sweet potatoe roasties, mushrooms and a little vodka and diet coke.

Happy days.
John everyone's opinion is valid.

Just because some of us may have had this disease for longer, or been posting on this forum more does not mean that our opinion, especially on more technical/scientific matters, is any more valid.

One of the things that worries me a bit with this "Legend" label that the forum has stuck on many of us, is that it may give what we post an exaggerated credibility, particularly in the eyes of the newly diagnosed, that may not always be merited. And to be clear, I am thinking primarily of my own posts in making this comment.

At the end of the day, practically none of us are scientists or medically trained ( a certain very likable nursie with a Phd in Forensics, being a very notable exception :-) @alliebee).

So does that mean that we need to silence ourselves for fear that we may mislead?

I think not.

As long as in what we write we are giving an honest reflection of our own experience, thoughts and feelings then there is value in sharing them.
I have always felt that what I am best equipped to comment on is my own experience with this disease anyway.

I have enjoyed the recent discussion about what target levels we should be aiming for, because it is a subject that has been troubling me for a while and because, to be honest, it was almost a relief to see that I am not the only one with similar concerns.

It was also a discussion that mercifully did not become too heated, as it may well have ended up being.

I hope that, despite sharing a number of articles for the benefit of anyone interested on the subject, I did not come across as some kind of authority on the subject, as I am of course nothing of the kind.

I also hope that people have not misinterpreted what I wrote as me trying to convince them to change their own path with this disease.

At the end of the day, I suspect much like you, I still remain committed to my own path of chasing non diabetic levels, perhaps, and this is a rather surprising realization for someone who prides himself on his logic, more on a gut feeling than anything else. What I am currently doing and the levels I am currently at feel right to me, so, until someone persuades me of the error of my ways, I am sticking with them.

I am keeping an open mind though!

Pavlos

Sorry this post has ended up being yet another long monologue - I must really like my own voice.

If your Doc had prescribed the additional drug you asked about, it would have been credited with the loss. Every cloud, eh? ;)

Well done.

Do you have your wedding outfit already?

I haven't ever done much at 1 hour. I have learned quite a bit when I have done a few 24 hour, hourly tests. Mike for me, the only true value of the 1 hour reading is to enable me to assess whether my 2 hour reflects a score which is falling or still rising.

4.5 for me this morning. This slightly elevated reading comes along with a stuffy head and tummy ache, so I feel unconcerned.

It's utterly wild here this morning with the sleet lashing against the windows. I feel fully fledged hibernation coming on for today!!

Have a good day everyone.

I agree AB ... mine stay around the same rate or (more often than not, drop) ... sometimes minor, sometimes major based on exercise ... but they DO drop during the day no matter what.

He now refers to me (confidentially of course) as the model patient. This guy REALLY know his stuff as I kept hitting him with questions to answers I've learnt on this forum and apart from a mild disagreement with what does and does not spike, all he's worried about now is my blood pressure. So now yoga with my wife as he recommended ... and if you'd have told me I'd have considered that 6 months ago, i would have laughed at you.

1st session this morning and I enjoyed it :)

I found my BP dropped along with my blood scores and weight, although I also had quite marked white coat syndrome. Do you measure your BP at home at all?

Indeed. Such wisdom, @AndBreathe!

I have bought myself a fur trimmed cape for the wedding but no idea what to wear with it. I shall go shopping early in the New Year with a friend. I just don't have the headspace for it just now and I want to give myself maximum time to get in shape

My 20:20 hindsight is pretty impressive? Non?

OOoooh. Fur trimmed cape. Lovely. If you get stuck, you could always look to Brunneria's seasonal avatar for inspiration. ;)

More seriously, I'm sure once you get going you'll have plenty of options.

When I came back to the UK in August, and was opening my UK wardrobe, I had so little I could wear (and not look like a bag lady!), and it took a short while to get my head around the "need" to consider new shapes to flatter my trimmer bits and disguise the overly bony bits. I'm a bit better with that now. Or maybe I'm just a bit more used to having a few clothes that actually fit!!
