Well, Christmas has started! A lovely soup for lunch - cauliflower with a chilli cheese that the Wensleydale Creamery do (in their cafe) with a white roll! Despite not eating all the roll (and slathering it with butter) I was 7.5 2 hours after! Highest for ages!

Then out to dinner which was pretty low-carb except for the tennis-ball size potato croquet which I couldn't resist. 6.3 at 08:30 this morning, despite the wine!

Never mind - back on the straight and narrow after today, for a few more days.

Christmas night out last. Didn't even think about diabetes. Had all usual festive food with trimmings and plenty drink and only 6.1 this morning :)

Good for you, Marina :D . I was 6.6 today after eating a toasted sandwich for lunch yesterday, and then demolishing half a mini Stollen and a (very small) packet of cheese crackers. Just goes to show!

I had my annual review last Thursday and have been called in about my cholesterol by the diabetic specialist GP. Another battle looms! I shall go to see my usual GP and see what's up. Stupidly I forgot to ask the receptionist for the figure when she phoned.

Oh joy! :lol:

Hi all,
this morn 5.9.
FG between 5.9 -7.1 depending on what have eaten night before, was 8.6-9.2.
Had my first HbA1c after 6 months of being diag levels down from 7% to 5.7%.

Chol 4.6
Lost just over a stone in weight have been told that has helped lower my levels!
Metformin SR 500mg x1

Have you adapted your Modified Atkins Diet then, Viv? Better edit it on your thread :lol: :lol: :mrgreen:

This morning reading 2.9, feel fine, not done it again yet. As anyone been taking rampril for high blood pressure. I have been for over five years, however, I've had such bad swollen ankles I couldn't get my shoes on. The first doc said, buy bigger shoes, not impressed. The second, one refused point blank to change them. I researched these pills on the Internet and found this was one serious side effect, plus giddy turns, all which I had. So, I stopped taking them, monitored the BP and its been normal, in fact very good. Last time I saw the doc at the 6mthly check up the BP was very acceptable and she said nothing about my stopping them. The ankles are now normal, no swelling, no pain in the joints, and I can now get my shoes on without problems. It just goes to show sometimes we know our own bodies better than doctors. I now feel 100% better, am having more exercise daily and the glucose levels are better to control. I'm trying to drop the carbs and watch my food and what I eat.

Cooked a proper roast yesterday. Paying the price first thing.

Thank you for your reply. Getting this glucose under what they want is difficult, but today it was higher, 6.6, the lunchtime count, 6.7. I'm now monitoring three times daily to try and see what foods I'm eating sends the count up. Its knowing what to eat that I'm having difficulty with. I'm not a fish lover, so that's one food off the menu. Did you read my former post about BP pills, I thought I'd warn anyone else who may have been on ramipril, I'm glad to be off them.

No, Daisy, I'm just being bad! :twisted: and indulging in a little Christmas food! It's the nibbles that do it - more-ish. I was 6.6 again this morning!

I went to see another of our practice doctors today - not the diabetes specialist, but my 2nd favourite - expecting to be hauled over the coals about my cholesterol, which in fact was 5.4 (down from 5.7 last time) but he never mentioned it at all. Got my print-out, and I'm not happy with the lipid profile, so I shall have to get serious after New Year. Anyone know how to raise HDL? Actually I think it's the wine - apparently you're supposed to avoid alcohol for 24 hours before a cholesterol test/full lipid profile. No one told me!

Bit miffed about the HbA1c which was 6.0 - up from 5.2 last time :shock: . However, I'm pretty sure that had quite a lot to do with the tooth abcess and 3 weeks of antibiotics - the soups had more carbs than I'm used to, and who knows what the antibiotics were doing to me? So I'm not taking it to heart and will make sure the next one is lower.

My gynae op has been rescheduled for Dec 28th - oh joy!

5.4 and confused. :eh: Usually around 5.8 to 6.3. Had stew and pancakes last night and lets face it that is not exactly low carb. Oh well I have some left over, and I do love a good stew, so will do a repeat tonight, just to check it out.

It must be the stew!
I had two lovely big bowls of my wife's chicken stew, and then ate most of a tube of pringles later whilst watching a film

My normal readings are 7.5, this morning it was 5.9.....

Theres no figuring it sometimes!

Sometimes, when we cheat, gang, after living fairly restrictive lower carb diets - a moment of real 'losing it' and 'really cheating' kicks our pancreas into high gear and it spits out a LOT of insulin to cover since you've been resting the pancreas with your normal 'lowER' carbing. This happens all the time when I eat strating pure MILK chocolate. I have a half a Hershey bar or something and 2 hours later I'm 5.5, Even at one hour it never spikes me. Keep in mind that for many of us - we've made HUGE changes in the way we eat. And our pancreases see a 'disaster cheat' comin' and they jump into gear for us for the one or two cheats. I experience this 'ALL' the time.

Mine was 5.3, I then went for my HbA1c blood test, so Christmas starts here for me....

4.6 this morning which was rather nice. I've cut out melon over the last few days and switched to apples and satsumas. Since doing that my levels are coming in lower. Having said that they'll probably spike tomorrow morning

6.5 this morning - but I did have fish and chips last night! :oops: Only a 'small' chips, but they were gorgeous!

7.5 I am thrilled with this as Ive only been on insulin 10 days and was in the high 20's before

im being very good with my diet but shall allow myself a day off xmas day

5.2 this morning which is not bad considering I did eat rubbish yesterday which I'm never doing again as my ibs came back with a bang.

The cheesy footballs, 3 roast potatoes, 2 mouthfuls of Christmas pudding and bread sauce were just not worth it.

7.2 this morning, bad because I'm usually in the 5's but much better than 2010 at 8.8 and 2009 at 10.6.

Will be back on the wagon on Tuesday, but life is for living and a couple of days off won't hurt too much.

6.5 this morning. This was after a day which included a vegetarian Christmas dinner - soup, nut roast, stuffing, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, bread sauce, breadcrumbed parsnips, sprouts, carrots etc, followed by pudding and rum sauce! I daredn't try to count the carbs. Also vast quantities of wine.

One thing - I can't eat the quantities I once could, which must be a good thing. :lol:

I don't intend to get strictly back on to the diet until after New Year, but neither shall I be silly. And I'm certainly not getting weighed until January 9th! :shock:

Mine was 6.6 this morning, which I was quite pleased about after yesterday's food. :thumbup:
