Type 2's: What was your fasting blood glucose in a morning?

5.2 this morning like most mornings after pie and chips the night before. Always get lower with main meal at lunch time and sandwich in evening than the otherway around

No, plummeted overnight. Usually in high 5's low 6's fasting bloods. this morning, in the 4's, never been in the 4's, no idea why the drop? no different diet yesterday? maybe I got off my stress chair as DN said my cholesterol was 4.2, whereas it was double that 3 months ago? Baffled. I would be happy, but I've no energy and blurred vision?? xx

Thanks @lunarlinda I was only asking because we came off statins at the same time and my readings over the past 2 days have been much better with no other changes. Very well done on the cholesterol drop.

I don't want to take any more pills than I have to, especially ones that are surrounded by all this bad press. Thanks, hope you get good results too. xx

I was wondering the same - and hope to goodness you are keeping an eye on your weight @Andrew Colvin
No experimentation. I have always had pie and chips once a week. Bit of a shock isn't it. I have managed to continue losing weight whilst eating these meals. Must be all the exercise

I have steak, kidney and diced potato pie once a week (homemade, deep pie, top crust only) with a smidgin of gravy. My weight continues to drop and my spikes, whilst still too high, are not disastrous. About 3mmols. Happy with that.

I have looked through my numbers and it is not actually the pie but beef that seems to cause my higher morning numbers.

That makes sense. The pastry is fast acting and would be well digested by morning. The beef on the other hand probably won't.

Never mind the weight, I'm interested in what happens to bg levels. Are they ok Andrew? Has the bg reaction to that meal been the same throughout since you were diagnosed? Or have they dropped? That's an interesting thought and possibly a good indicator of how well your body is coping.

Umm that is difficult to answer. I only started testing about 6 weeks after diagnosis and since then my fasting has been pretty good; had a few at near 6 for a couple of weeks (was at 12.5% weight loss when I started testing) and after those 2 weeks (when I hit 15% weight loss) I started having the same 4.8 to 5.2 fasting readings except when I ate a lot of cow. It is from this point I can see this trend. I had one reading when I had about 2kg of beef at a restaurant (brazilian restaurant) when I stayed at 5.6 until 11AM the next morning. I wrote another thread on this a month back.

I have just gone over 16% weight loss. Maybe this is why my levels are showing improvement. Do you know at what stage of weight loss insulin resistance starts to improve?

Interesting, I'm on 10% weight loss at the moment, so I've got this to come (?).

I've lost 29% of my original weight and my fasting levels are similar to Andrew's. I have looked back in my records and it would appear my fasting levels dropped to this level when I had lost 19.4% of my original weight.

Edit: I'm on medication although the nurse thinks I should stop it. I want to have a week back at work first to see if stress levels affect bg levels.

@sanguine - I couldn't tell you whether you will see the same - it is a body thing and what happened to me may not happen to you. I have my fingers crossed for you though, but just don't take too long as it is hard to type like this :D

No I don't sorry bluetit but this is a quote from Professor Taylor's research
Data from the Swedish randomized study of gastric banding showed that a loss of 20% body weight was associated with long-term remission in 73% of a bariatric surgery group, with weight change itself being the principal determinant of glucose control (13). Dietary weight loss of 15 kg allowed for reversal of diabetes in a small group of individuals recently receiving a diagnosis
