@miked

Mike good morning or I suppose afternoon for you, to try to assist with your question, I think you will find that we all have somewhat different interpretations of this figure, my personal goal is to keep all readings below 7.8 which as I understand it if above this level there is potential for Diabetes associated problems.

As to how long this can take I would assume it will be the usual different strokes for different folks.

Personally I am managing this 99% of the time, according to my meter taking pre and post meal readings, diagnosed in May 2014 with an average blood reading of 80 which is I believe is 12ish on our meters, following a sort of LCHF diet and some additional exercise, 15 stone on diagnosis now stuck for the last 2/3 weeks on 12 stone and things for me at the moment settling on most fronts.

We shall see when I have my next Drs blood test if my meter reading are in anyway accurate.

I am sure you will get some better replies from others with more knowledge than I, in the meantime good luck.

Today's fasting same as bed time reading 4.5, my meter must be broken.

Have a good day everyone off to work shortly.

Mike my personal goal is to keep all readings below 7.8 which as I understand it if above this level there is potential for Diabetes associated problems.

I think that is a very good target and one that I actually follow myself. It is not clear though that being higher than that for a short period after a meal is harmful, I understand non diabetics can go higher after a carb heavy but come back down quite quickly afterwards. The important thing is to spent as little time above 7,8 as possible.

Personally I aim for the following maximum targets

- fasting or before meals 6,0 or ideally 5,5
- one hour post prandial 7,8
- two hours post prandial 6,7

I don't really do a lot of one hour testing though. When I do check, I probably make it below 7,8 about 90% of the time.

I probably am very close to 100% with the other two targets.

We will have to see whether the reduction in meds I am experimenting with changes this.

Thanks John :)

... and yep, it's 6 p.m. here :)

Most times I fall below that (78) regardless of time of day. THAT is where I wish to stay :)

Cheers mate

Thanks Pavlos

I spend little time over 7.8.. It jumped yesterday morning courtesy of some unexcpected stress and that is something I'm trying to control :)

@ally1

You can't be too happy with that.

You are usually lower than that.

Your before tea count was unusually high yesterday as well. Are you ok? Could it be a virus?

Hopefully the extra Metformin will kick in soon and bring these down in the next couple of days.

Make sure you do not relax your carb control though!

All the best.

OMG a miracle happened this morning.....

7.7 on waking
7.2 before breakfast......

My morning walks have resulted in increased glucose levels in the last two days where I would normally expect to see drops.

Normally as long as I am above 5,0 mmol on waking up, going on my walks without having anything to eat results in a drop in my sugar levels.

In the last two days my fasting levels before the walk were 5,5 and 5,1 respectively and after the walk 6,0 and 6,1 respectively - liver damps, where I would normally not expect them.

The only difference I can think of is the my experimenting with a reduced Metformin dose of 1000mg daily rather than my normal 1700mg.

A sample of two is probably too small to draw any reliable conclusion though. I will stick with the lower dose and see how I get on.

I have no personal experience of any drugs, but I'm wondering if you're experiencing a variation on the enzyme lag "we" can see when we increased carbs? In other words, give it a few days, at least, to give your body a chance to catch up with the new regime.

6 this morning. I'm not surprised as I had a night of worst anxiety I've had for ages. Still feel shocking now. I did wonder if if had a hypo during night but tested at 4.45 and I was 6.2. I guess I may have missed it and have been on way up again by the time I woke up properly enough to test.

10.9 o_O or is it?
It's been a funny old morning :D
I got up, had a wash, did my hair, brushed my teeth, made a cuppa.
Then I thought, I'll make the hub brekkie in bed.
So I made him a honey & vanilla 2 min porridge sachet.
While that was cooking in the microwave, I remembered I'd not tested my blood sugar…. again.
So off I go, test my BG…. Eeeeek! 10.9
So then I'm confused as I've just washed my hands when I got up?
I've not touched any food, just opened a sachet and poured milk on the ole man's porridge?
So I wash my hands and test again and get a 4.9.
Worried now that's the dodgy reading, as I've never had a 4.9 in the morning, I test again and get a 5.3. That's more like it! More 'Me'.
So I'm talking to the hub while he's eating his porridge and he thinks:
Because the porridge in those sachets is so dusty, just opening the sachet was enough to get the sugars/starches onto my hands. Then because the dust is so fine, it dissolved instantly into my blood drop when testing.
Won't be doing that again  Well actually I probably will with a TBI and I'll have forgotten this ever happened before :hilarious::banghead::)

Isn't it very annoying when this sort of thing happens.
