Morning all,

This Friday will make 2 weeks since I got my T2 diagnosis at 5pm after a busy week at work. As you know it sent me to a sad place and I simply couldn't stop crying. Well I am pleased to say thanks to this site I am now past the tears and am able to process information. I have purchased several books and am slowly reading through what I need to do to help myself.

In some ways I am excited about the future because I have decided to try new foods and recipes that I have never tried brfore. I want to lose weight before I turn 45 in October, I want smaller boobs and new lingerie... basically I want to spoil myself and clothes shop like i have never shopped before. So I have decided to focus on the positive instead of the negative.

Now I am walking slowly instead of running scared I am feeling much better. I think I just went into shock. I absolutely cannot believe I've not eaten crisps or sweets in two weeks. (Except 3 polos).

Yesterday I got an appointment for a retinal eye test. It said not to drive for 4 hours afterwards? Is this an annual test?

I need to sign off as my battery is dying. Maybe it's had too many carbs!

What a smashing start! Well done. Yes, the retinal screening is annual. It's a piece of cake but can affect your vision for a while afterwards. Take sunglasses and a freind with you.

Oh, and keep up the great work.

Hi @Jaz006 and welcome!

So glad that you’re starting to find your way and a great positive attitude. Am with you on the benefits of an enforced lifestyle change. From personal experience (I’ve lost 95 pounds and dropped 7 clothes sizes) it’s really invigorating and confidence building to take control and start to feel healthy. All those new clothes do get expensive but it’s such fun to be able to buy anything you want.

Really good luck and keep posting and asking questions!

Pleased to hear!

The retinal screening test requires them to put some eye drops in your eyes to make your pupils bigger, this allows them to see more of the retina, which is the back of your eye. Normally your pupils would go small again when the sunlight hits you but with these drops in, they stay enlarged. Hence the sunglasses.

Once the drops go in, your vision goes a bit blurry and it wouldn't be safe to drive a car. I always take someone with me to drive. Over a few hours the blurred vision subsides. It's a bit like having work done at the dentist and the local anaesthetic gradually wearing off. I find I can't easily read during that time.

Hi Jaz, I’m so glad to hear you’re in a better place now. You’re right to look at the positives of diagnosis, I look on mine as a blessing in disguise now. I have lost a shed load of weight and have had to invest in new underwear and clothes, one of the perks of type 2! It was getting expensive but I have got some bargains in charity shops too. Keep in touch, there’s a Weekly Weigh in Friday post (in the Type 2 forum) and a What have you Eaten Today post in the (Low Carb Forum) which you may find interesting and inspiring.

Grief is understandable ... akin to washing and replenishing the soul. If you didn't have those emotions, there'd be something wrong. Far better you never once give in. Go for it !!

Winning........:)

@Jaz006 Good luck with your onward new journey. I am 71 in two months time and have never felt so well before in my life. I found it sooo easy to lose the weight on LCHF. When you start to lose weight think charity shops because you will get through so many clothes.

Thanks Rach

Well done and glad you are feeling better. I think having an obtainable and pleasant end goal as a reward for yourself is a really good idea. I'm planning to get back into swimming and scuba dive myself. The money I'm saving on food will easily pay for the costs over the time it will take me lose my needed weight.
