Hi all
Firstly I was here before but can’t retrieve my old account because I can’t find the email so I’m reintroducing myself!

I’m Sam, I’m 39 and was diagnosed as T2 in February with a HBA1C of 69.
I focused on my diet, cut out a lot of sugar, carbs etc and switched to wholemeal, lots of veg, protein etc, took 3 metformin a day and in April had gotten my HBA1C down to 46 and had lost a stone in weight. (I still have plenty more to go!)

Then my cholesterol was high so I had 3 months to try and get that down by the end of July with diet alone.

Well since April, life got in the way, my dad celebrated his 60th birthday, my son got an apprenticeship, my husband got promoted, my FIL had his bowel cancer return, husbands birthday, nan was diagnosed with a slow growth bowel cancer, daughter turned 13, I turned 39 and this last week my mother was diagnosed with throat cancer. So basically it all went to s*** and my focus shifted. I was eating as and when I could, snacking, drinking diet or zero fizzy drinks and my med taking slipped as I skipped pills etc or just plain forgot to take them!

So as of Monday I have cut down again to 1 coffee a day with two sweetex sweeteners. This is the only sweetener I have all day. I don’t have sugar in tea.

I’m testing again with my monitor to keep track of levels. Woke up this morning to a 4.9 reading (told by nurse not to test all the time but just doing it to keep on track atm) Told not to go under 4.
Then had toast with spread and a small glass of OJ and spiked myself to a 13! So that’s a no no. Rarely drink it anyway so no loss.

Back drinking water more regularly.
Taking meds regularly.

Need to stern words and a kick up the butt. Have to have a fasted blood test in a week or two time and I’m not expecting good results! But it’s my own doing so now is time to kick my own butt again.

Hope your all doing well!!!

We all have issues. I know I did. My father died of cancer and with dementia. My remaining aunties also died, and my niece died. I also had a few other issues to work through. It was an incredibly stressful time. I hadn't been diagnosed with T2 then, but I reckon I already had pre-diabetes at that time.

You know what to do regarding carbs, and you're testing, so that's good.

Don't you want to still be around and in good health to see your family grow up?

Get back on the wagon, young man. Onwards and upwards!

Will get the blood tests done and face the music and see where I’m starting again

If you remember the old username or email we can get Admin to give you access.

Can I ask what medication you are on?

And you are definitely not alone in finding that life can get in the way of good blood sugar control.
But a fasting level of 4.9 suggests to me that you can't have fallen too far off the wagon.
I'm sorry you have been having a hard time but congratulations on taking back control.

@EllieM i have no idea what the username was or what email I used :-/

I am currently on 3 500mg of metformin a day. So one breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as escitalopram for depression.

I tested yesterday evening and was 5.7 about 9pm and had toast and a glass of milk before bed which put me to 8.6 and still got the 4.9 this morning so I’m hoping I haven’t slipped backwards too much

But at least I have recognised the signs and moving forward now

I must test myself after OJ sometime. That 's a high after count. Bummer. It's true though life really gets in the way and this thing is tough.I'm really glad for this forum. Learning so much.
