Re: VICTOZA

Have been reading with great interest the messages posted here as I can't find a good forum discussing this medication here in the US. Have been on Victoza for 4 weeks. I did great on the 0.6 dosage, but am not handling the 1.2 very well. Talked to the diabetic educator at my endocrinologist office who suggested that the 1.2 might be too strong for me & that she would recommend going back to the 0.6 for a couple of weeks to see how I do.

My most recent reading was 5.2 (95 in US) which really makes me feel rotten! She said that it appears that my body is not handling a "normal" reading very well and that it might take me some time to get used to it. Sure do hope it hurries! I'm not handing the nausea very well & I'm never hungry. I only eat because I know I need to. And when I do eat, I have nausea again.... nausea if I do or if I don't eat. And anything sweet makes me sick as well! She also said to make sure I eat a balanced (even if it is small) meal because I need the proper nutrition.

Has anyone else had their tastes change? I've found that I don't like spicy foods or my beloved coffee any more! :( I can handle the spicy foods, but I've always had a thing for coffee.

Thanks for listening!

Re: VICTOZA

Now on third day with Victoza. I am only on the smallest dose (0.6) and using it with metformin. BG is around 5.6-7.3 most of the day and my most recent HBA1c was 6.7. This was quite a rise hence my Doctors desicion to put me on Victoza. No side effects at all. I am eating more healthily but I haven't noticed any changes to my appetite yet still 3 days is not that long!

Re: VICTOZA

Hi Guys

Just finished my first week on 1.2 no headaches or sickness feelings which I am glad to say is a relief, the only thing that’s strange I am testing more but find my reading are never the same, one is 4.6 the next 1 minute later is 5.1 or 5.7 my question is which one is right. Or should I just be happy they are now below 10

Just take one reading and leave it at that. You will drive yourself 'barmy' testing in that way. You will NEVER get the same reading on your meter testing that way. It is just a guide, no more. It isn't a precision instrument. You are also wasting the test strips and will end up paranoid about test meter readings.

There have been a number of previous posts on the forum about this.......I usually answer them all the same way.

Glad to hear your Bg levels are dropping, every little helps !

Re: VICTOZA

I was feeling rotten one day.... tested on my right hand & then my left..... the readings were very different! I stopped doing that because it did drive me nuts. And I'm nutty enough without any help!

I am on Byetta and take Ranitidine which has a similar action. Is there something specific that you are looking for an answer to ?

Re: VICTOZA

No Ken it just seems a lot of people get a reaction to the injections and i thought that maybe some people are not being prescribed something that puts a lining on the stomach and helps avoid the nausea associated with victoza or byetta.

Re: VICTOZA

Thanks for that. No, mine was prescribed after a major heart op so was nothing to do with nasuea which I don't get, or have had, with Byetta. More of a preventative measure, just in case ! Good point though...... :D

Re: VICTOZA

I was already taking Nexium when I was prescribed Victoza. That must be why I only have the feeling that the nausea is always mildly in the background. Depending on what I eat (or sometimes just smell!), the nausea stays mild or gets worse. If I eat something that no longer agrees with me, I take some Tums that seem to help. I have some prescription pills for nausea (Phenergan), but they don't seem to help....

Feeling much better since I went back to the 0.6mg dose.

Re: VICTOZA

Hi peeps,

Just thought I'd give you my thoughts on victoza.

My levels fluctuate and were quite high 12.7, I also have high blood pressure and a underactive thyroid. I'm also on 2000 mg metformin per day & 80mg of gliclazide

I've been on Victoza now for 4 weeks. Yes initially the sickness was hard to bear (I compare it to morning sickness.) I started out on 0.6 -1st week, 1.2 - 2nd week and increased to final dosage level 1.8 third week. I went to see my specialist after 3 1/2 weeks and couldn't believe the scales, I'd lost 12 lbs, I had some readings as low as 4.7 (I can't remember them ever being that low) and varied upto 9.6.

The sickness feeling although still hovering in the background has greatly decreased. So my advice is to bear with it if you can.

The other side effect is that it seems to have changed my eating habits too. I no longer crave the wrong foods and because I'm not hungrey when I go shopping, not longer buy the wrong foods..........happy days.

Would be interested in other Victoza users letting me know how they are getting on with their levels and weight loss. :P

Re: VICTOZA

Have been on Victoza for about 2 months. Between the Byetta & the Victoza (first Byetta, then Victoza because I could not handle the 10 mcg Byetta) I've lost 37.25 pounds (don't know how many stone that is). Still have the lurking nausea and absolutely NO energy. Love the results, however have stopped taking it because my liver is enlarged.... again. I've had a fatty liver for years, however, it usually behaves itself. It was enlarged last year due to a change in my cholestrol med and settled back down when the doctor changed to a different med. Now, however, I'm hurting A LOT again and have put in a call to the endo nurse. Will see what she advises, however, I did not use the med today.

Will see what happens next...

Re: VICTOZA

Hi all,

I've been reading through all your posts and have found them very interesting and helpful.

I'm wondering/hoping someone might be able to give a little bit of advice to me please?

I started on Victoza last week on the lowest dose.
My sugar levels are reasonably good, HBcA1 being around the 7s. My weight is high though (115kg)
I take metformin and inject Lantus once nightly (60units)

Since starting on it I noticed a real drop in my appetite which I expected to happen and quite liked as I felt it might help towards losing a few pounds, however, these last few days it's returned to normal again and I'm eating as before...

So far I've not been sick or anything and have felt fine, which is good.

I also felt my temperament improve 110% which was most welcome!

I had a feeling of calm and ease inside. I felt happier and brighter, relaxed, chattier, more sociable, I even had a little spring in my step, it was great, lovely infact.
I felt on a nice even keel for once. I felt normal - how I should be feeling and how i truley want to feel.
It wasn't only noticeable to me but hugely noticeable to those around me too.

Unfortunately that feeling has now gone and I'm back to my old self again....

I'm hoping that once I up my dose next week to 1.2 units,
a) not only will my appetite reduce again to help with weight loss.....?
b) but the nice peaceful, good tempered feeling will too......?

Thanks to anyone that could spare me a few moments of your time, I'd really appreciate any comments, help, advice etc.

Kind Regards

Jackie xx

Re: VICTOZA

Jackie, I had the same thing with the 0.6mg in regards to appetite. It seemed like once I got used to the 0.6mg dose, my appetite came back. The good thing was that when I increased the dosage, it went away again and stayed away. Even though I could not stay on the 1.2mg, my appetite did not come back when I went back to the 0.6mg.

Have patience....

Re: VICTOZA

Aww thanks MomSherlock for replying :)

I hope then when I increase my dosage (after 2 weeks) I start to eat less again and I hope that nice mood and better temperament I was experiencing returns too.

This site is wonderful, I spent a good couple of hours the other day reading each and every post. It's interesting hearing what everyone has to say and how they are doing.
I will be returning each day.

How are you doing yourself Mom? Are you getting good results?

Re: VICTOZA

Jackie, I had wonderful results!! Unfortunately, I've had to quit for now. I have a history of liver problems & it appears that I'm having a flare up for some reason. HOWEVER..... I firmly believe in Victoza and will restart it again when the liver calms down IF the doctor says it's OK.

Good luck! And keep folks here posted. I also read everything here and got lots of good info from everyone. Much better than what I found here in the States.

Re: VICTOZA

Hi Mom,
Nice to hear back from you,
Yes, i read up on your previous posts about your liver... shame that, I hope you get sorted soon :)
Glad to hear you've had brilliant results, I'm pleased. Well done you.

Take care and keep well :D xx

Victoza

Hello all
I just joined 10 minutes ago. I'm Dave 60 and been a diabetic for 12 Years.
I have just been put onto Victozo. It has lowered my levels and I feel quite well somedays the, others I'm back to normal. Does anybody else have any Idea how this affects them, it would be nice to hear from you please. Dave

Re: VICTOZA

Well..... as I posted yesterday, I did not use my Victoza yesterday bacause I felt like my liver was giving me problems.... I used the shot today because when I woke this morning, my sugar was 9.61 instead of the usual 5-6 in the morning! :( I just feel bad when my sugar is that high... very sluggish.

Still waiting on the doctors' office to call back. We shall wait and see what they say.

Y'all have a blessed day! :)
