Hi all, well its been a couple off weeks since I posted anything, I have been on 1.2 now for 2 weeks I was on 0,6 for weeks pre, I take it at 10 every night, I still get moments where I feel sick :mrgreen: But this is either followed by a sneeze which makes it go away (strange I know) or i am sick but not to bad. Blood sugars have been good 5.7 :D . I am not able to eat anywhere near as much as I used to which is good, I will see GP tomorrow and will be weighed for me this will tell me how well I am doing :!: :!: I would just say to anyone I am only on my 6th week but if it controls my sugar and stops the rot I will be happy

Hello everybody, first I'd like to say thanks for a very informative website!
My wife is Type2 and is on 1000mg Metformin morning and night. She was diagnosed some 11 years ago but has bad control (14 - 18). 3 weeks ago she was started on Victoza 0.6 for 7 days, and has been on 1.2 ever since. She injects before bed into her tummy but has noticed that within a day or two the injected site swells up in a pale-reddish area of approximately 20mm diameter. Has anybody else had this same issue and is it a problem or will it clear up? If it is difficult, should she speak to her SDN? Her daily (morning) BG is now around 10.0 - 11.2 and getting lower.

Yes, I can relate to those injection site bruises as I used to get them when I first started to inject Victoza, but not now.

I now inject when I rise from my bed at the same time each morning so that the injected fluid does not just sit there as I lay in bed. I also gently massage the injection site and around the area for at least two full minutes to ensure full dispersal, and of course being that I have just got up from a nights rest/sleep, my body has a full day for my blood circulation to distribute the fluid as my body flexes and bends as I move around.

I used to be very dubious about injecting, but now after many months I could probably do it with my eyes closed, being that I know it takes twenty 'clicks' to set the 1.2 dose and twenty clicks felt through my thumb as I SLOWLY inject the fluid over fifteen seconds. I then leave the needle in me for another slow count of ten before removing it from my midriff.
One thing I did notice early on was that I was not holding the pen stable enough and my hand would ever so slightly tremble, so now I use a more steady grip and hardly ever get an injection site bruise.

I hope your wife soon gets the hang of easy injecting and please come back and let us know how she gets on.

I have been on Victoza 1.8 dose since October 2009. I have lost 7.5 stone and feel great, another stone to go will do me fine. It is expensive as far as clothes go, but what the hell, I look good even if I say so myself. I attend the Gym 5 days a week to keep fit and help with weight loss. :D

When you went up to the 1.8 dose did you notice a big difference in your bg? My DN says that the consultant has to agree the 1.8 dose and am due to see him on 13th October so guess I will need to wait until then. I have had a mixed response from members on here, many say that the 1.8 does not give any better result - I accept that we are all different - guess I need to be patient a little longer!! I saw the consultant a year ago and he said see you in 4 months - it will be 13 months by the time I see him and I only have that appointment because I chased it up!!

Hi guys, not posted on for a while but thought i'd come on for a wee update ....... well I am no longer on victoza ...... I have now been taken off it as it just was not working for me :( .... unsure as to what the doctors are planning now as my sugars are just as high as ever, nothing seems to take them down :|

I gave vicotza my best shot, endured the nausea and sickness and headaches for as long as I could. Lived in the hope of losing some of the extra pounds acquired over the last 2 years to no avail. But most importantly I held on to the hope that my BS levels would go down ...... :? but no ..... back to the drawing board for me.

Victoza after a hospital Visit!

Just been summoned Thursday to the Diabetic clinic after around 4 years in France and with ANY visit for around 8 years total I think?

Result? Excellent feel! I really feel alive again!

I was all day being tested and the level of testing was FAR superior to anything I received whilst in the UK. Heart test was a FULL ECG and then an ultrasound inspection of my heart. Podiatrist did a FULL and rather FRANK inspection of feet and pulses and as a result I have after 21 years again been asked to present myself for shoe inserts! Something I sought after I left the Royal Navy and asked constantly my Doctor in the UK to prescribe! And that was actually without even asking! Full bloods etc and of course the now fabled DIETICIAN visit!! AAAGGGHHH! (Can you tell I am NOT over fond of dieticians? The only NICE thing about them is they are usually VERY pretty girls and very easy on the eye. Sorry but they are.) This one was pretty and VERY voracious (DIET WISE BOY!!I! Which is also very usual. I did have to have a translator as my French is not yet good enough and of course I was ripped up for toilet paper regards my diet... WHAT diet?? Anyway I should NOT be eating Shreddies! I had NOT appreciated the content HONEST!! :-) And after I told her it was ONLY after visiting this site and reading about Carb Diets that I realised they existed. She was AMAZED at that and I did not need French to know that! But true as it was I actually was only pulled on a couple of things, so all was quite well!

And the Doctor herself LISTENED to me! (I want to go onto Insulin as I am NOT convinced my diet and tablets are enough to control my condition! And she agreed! Like last week average glucose was at Breakfast 7.8 before and 11.4 after. 9.8 before lunch and 16.3 after 6 before tea/supper and 14.4 after and 7.8 before bed. I took 1000mg of Metformin 3 times a day and used to alternate at dinner and tea time to take it. My levels are TOO high she said! I funnily enough agreed and said she should have see them BEFORE I discovered this site! Anyway she has put me on Victoza 0.6 a day and then after a week I go to 1.2. And I have 3 months and after that if NO improvement then it IS Insulin. I asked for insulin though as I thought (Again before I found this forum) that Metformin and Insulin were the ONLY treatments for Diabetics!! And this was because of the IGNORANT Consultant at Halifax Royal!!! The one who informed me that EVERYONE is 5 before a meal and NO other reading was possible!! And has already been discussed at some length this is of course a LOAD OF BULL! But that was how my medication and the regime was treat! I.E. NO mention of Carbohydrates etc,.

Anyway I am now a LOT happier and just hope this will go as it should!! BUT (And the reason for posting, I DO take my metformin as well with the Victoza?? the doctor was not very clear , most likely due to the language problem I think! And my own doctor is away for 3 weeks and I cannot ask the hospital Doctor till Monday. So advice please? IF that is OK?

There is not a problem between metformin and Victoza. I take both and pioglitazone as well.

Victoza has made all the difference to me and kept insulin away from repeat prescription list, so good luck with it!
 
victoza + insulin

hi ,my consultant has put me on victoza + lantus insulin together plus metformin ,has anyone else used a combination & did it work ,thanks pete

I was on both lantus and victoza aswell as metformine and various other things.

I struggled big time on victoza and I am now off it. My dose of lantus never changed much when I was on victoza either, it went down a bit but then my blood results went up lol.

Hope you get on ok with the victoza.

Hi just been to Drs today and been given Victoza for the first time , only second patient to be given at this surgery. Brilliant remarks made by other Type 2 sufferers has helped alot. Hope it works .

Hi, have been lurking and getting some ideas since November last year.

Saw the diabetes consultant yesterday who would like to put me on to victoza.

anyone out there using it and what are your thoughts?
my hba1c is 8.4 I am taking 4 metformin sr a day and also irbersartan 150mg for high b/p

any help, advice, etc greatly appreciated. thanks :?

hi & thanks for replying ,after 6months on byetta plus insulin ,i was feeling awfull all the time ,my sugars were crazy ,im usually pretty good ,the only thing byetta did was lose lots of weight off me which was good ,i switched to victoza & lantus last week & i cant believe my results , my sugars was usually 11 or 12 in the mornings, with victoza im between 4/5 (sometimes too low but i can handle that ) i feel better ive dropped my lantus from 30 in a morning & evening to 25 ,i may have to drop that even lower , up to now im well pleased ,i hope it works out for me ,cheers :D

I was in hospital 3 weeks ago with a mild heart attack, high BP and BGs all over the place - nothing unusual to be 17 before breakfast - I was on 1500mg metformin. When in hospital, I was put on insulin and BGs dropped like a stone to near normal levels, but as I am very overweight it was suggested that I try Victoza. Been on it for 2 weeks now, first 0.6 and now 1.2....nausea is sometimes quite bad but fantastic results. Lost 11 pounds and BGs normal - taking with 2000mg Metformin. Hoping that the sickness will subside - definite reduced appetite and not able to eat big meals now if I wanted to, which I dont.
I feel very lucky to have been prescribed this treatment and I am really positive about the future.

My only problem is that it has taken a hospital admission to finally get a doctor who really understands diabetes....my GPs have a basic knowledge but some of them are almost dangerously ignorant wehn it comes to diabetes - unfortunatley I have had to find this out the hard way. I suffer from metabolic syndrome and as a result had found weight loss really hard - my GP was so judgemental that I got to the stage where I did not really want to go to the surgery....not good.

I hope that others on liraglutide have such a positive result as I have had. x :wink:
 
Almost halved the HbA1c!!

This is my first HbA1c since starting with Victoza in June. Then it was 11.7, now it's 6.2! Admittedly I am low carbing as well but feel wonderful! Energy levels are up and on occasion my BG level has been 5! I have lost a shed load of weight (around 2 stone) and my DB thought that this was "remarkable". I did say at the time of the test that I thought my result would be around 6 or 7 but she was not convinced - "...no, it won't be as low as that..it's too soon..." and when I reinforced that I thought the low carbing had been a major influence and that I was getting spikes from porridge she said "...that's interesting..." :roll:
Well I'm seeing the results and it's working for me :D

I was trapped in a vicious circle of insulin-weight gain-more insulin-more weight. I reached a point where a 300mg phial of Novomix lasted a day.

After nagging and bullying GP, specialist nurses and local consultant I eventually secured a referral to a specialist consultant at a different hospital who prescribed Victoza and a reduced insulin dose. I now take 1.2mg Victoza each day and have progressively reduced insulin to 120/125mg per day, I'm loosing around half a stone each week and control is now absolutely faultless. I feel much better than before and live in hope rather than despair.

GP backed by local PCT will not issue repeat prescriptions even though specialist has taken on monitoring etc. More nagging required but should we have to fight a war of attrition to get the care we need?

PS Hospital issues repeat script but its extra hassle both they and I could do without.

I am so pleased to see everyone is still experiencing (on the whole) such fantastic results on the Victoza. I am also delighted to say that having now had my surgey the surgeon has said the way Victoza works, by releasing the food more slowly from the stomach, may have been only exacerbating what turned out to be a rather complicated umbilical hernia and that it was the hernia causing most of my pain and sickness. Woo hoo... so if he is right I should be able to stay on the Victoza and have few/little issues with nausea and sickness. What a relief....

I am now 112 kg and going down which will benefit my sugars also which are still between 5 and 8 post op ( a week now) and thanks to Victoza they are hoping my lower sugars will aid wound healing..

For those just starting the Victoza thread is such a great place to be learning about this new drug... good luck.

At last after a 12 week wait to see a consultant, ive been given the ok to start on VIctoza. IVe had to order it from boots as they dont have any in stock cos not alot of people are on it in my area. But boots say they wil make sure they have it in for me ever month now ive been given it. All i need now is to go to my DN on mon to show me how to use it. So far ive lost 15kg on a cocktail of metformin,simvastatin,saxagliptin,amitriptyline and orlistat .
Thankfully i can come off the saxaglipin as it was realy makeing me ill, and im sure it was that as i was fine till i started taking that. My consultant said the best thing to do is eat little but often to combat the sickness if i get any, does anyone on it agree with this? Also what is the best time of day to take it?
I realy need to lose another 15kg of weight so i can have a op so im hopeing this will help and also get my bg down, dont matter what i do cant seam to be able to get it down lower than 7.5.
I'll update on how im getting on with it :D
