I am very bad at drinking water. I drink a lot of tea which dehydrates you so I’m getting really bad headaches. I’ve recently started drinking Volvic Touch of Fruit and I’m really enjoying it.
I’m drinking a 1.5 litre bottle over roughly 2 days. I can’t seem to win at the moment as the drawback with this is I’m having to go to toilet a lot. And with my job (support worker for mental health) I struggle to drink if I’m out and about all day as I worry about finding a toilet in time. So any help would be appreciated for
1. If this water is bad for sugar levels?
2. Is going to toilet roughly up to 5 times in an hour unusual?
Thank you in advance for any replies.

I hope your drinking the sugar free version? Do you check your blood sugars, as both headaches and weeing a lot can be caused by high blood sugars?

Going to the toilet as often as you do is not good. It needs investigating. It could be you have high sugar levels as this is one of the reasons for frequent urination. There are other reasons, but unless you can discount high sugar levels I would take this on board as a possible cause. They could also be causing your headaches. Do you have a meter and self test? Perhaps this may be a good idea if you don't. Meanwhile, stay away from that drink if it is not sugar free.

Agree with all of the posts above. May or may not be high blood sugar but worth checking out as really you should be sure.
I cannot believe that going to the loo five times and hour can be anywhere near ok.

I don't think tea dehydrates does it? If it does I doubt it does so more than it hydrates given the level of diuretic level in caffeine.
I also presume you are drinking a lot more than the 1.5litres of flavoured water over two days? 750ml of liquid is way way below any of the desired amount of liquid you should consume in a day.

1. I must of heard / seen somewhere that tea dehydrates you.
2. I don’t test my blood sugars very often as I’ve been keeping it very low until lately.
I did just check it and it was 18.4 which was a good few hours after a meal.
I have to admit I’m feeling very down lately due to lack of exercise as I’m awaiting hospital results on a stomach operation. I need a to kickstart my exercise again as I know that helps me a lot. I guess I’m just feeling a bit “off / angry” that I’ve let myself down.
Sorry for the long rant but when I’m at work I feel isolated and sometimes need answers. Thank you.

With a reading of 18.4 a few hours after a meal you really ought to have that checked out. Are you seeing a diabetes specialist team for the insulin management, or is it your GP surgery? Either way it seems some adjustment is needed promptly. With bloid glucose levels that high it is no wonder you feel so down. Also no wonder you don't feel like exercising. Please seek advice from your diabetes team.

Tea is a mild dehydrator, but can be included in the total amount of fluid we drink in a day, as can coffee. Water is best. Have you tried water with ice and a few slices of lemon?

I suggest you do start testing your blood sugars regularly, and especially before you eat and 2 hours later. If the rise is more than 2mmol/l there are too many carbs in that meal, which need reducing.

A level of 18.4 a good few hours after eating, and indeed at any time, is far too high. I suggest this is the reason for your frequent toilet visits, headaches and feeling lousy. It isn't lack of exercise - it is too many carbs and inappropriate food I'm afraid.

Me too, I thought it was a diuretic and could therefore dehydrate you?
It is - but a mild one.
Room temperature water is apparently the best thing you can drink purely to hydrate - slowly but often.

Poor grammar, bullying and drunks.
I agree with everything that has been said. Tea is a very mild diuretic so I would advise that you ditch the juice and go back to unsugared tea if you can't drink water. Some members find that a squeeze of lemon or lime in a glass of water makes it more palatable but to be honest I just drink the water and though I do not particularly like it I still do it.

May I ask if you find the strength of the urges matches the volume? A urinary tract infection can affect the urgency to urinate but without the volume to match so a trip to see the DN or GP would be a good idea in this case. Apart from the fact that an infection would raise your bg levels, too. Just an idea.

That is rather high - higher than I was diagnosed with.
If you have been drinking the full sugar version of a flavoured water (about 60 gm of sugar per bottle) then it could be the reason for it, but if not it would be a cause for concern - have you had a Hba1c test done recently?
A reading that high might delay your operation so I think you ought to do all you can to bring it down.

I made a mistake with the volvic flavourred water a few weeks ago - at 15g of sugar / 100 ml when I had expected seeeteners only.

As "it's only water" you tend to get very quickly through a litre bottle.

My blood sugar went very high as a result.
