Went to docs Mon 19th May with various infections and unwell. Doc suggested a blood test for diabetes. Advised on Fri. 23rd that my blood sugar is raised and I need a further blood test, but Doc will write to me. Can my blood sugar return to normal or have I possibly got Type 2? I am

That will depend on the results. Your doc could say you have pre-diabetes which can be reversed. Good luck.

Illness normally increases blood sugar. I think you need to wait until the illness fades before you or the GP can take a longer-term view of the extent if any of diabetes.

You say you've been unwell but have you any other symptoms that sometimes (but NOT always) accompany diabetes? E.g blurred vision, increased thirst, needing to keep getting up in the night to have a pee, a fuzzy head ('brain fog'), bouts of dizziness and feeling hot and sweaty (for no good reason you can see), tiredness, pain or tingling in the hands and feet (neuropathy).

If not, there's a chance you haven't got diabetes, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. But, as others have pointed out, only further blood tests and your GP can tell you for sure.

Good luck.

Yes, I'm afraid you are going to have to be patient on this one until you have your next test. I imagine this will be what is called an HbA1c test. This averages your blood sugar levels over the previous 2 to 3 months so is a good diagnostic tool for diabetes. The test you had the other day was just a blood glucose test that measured your level at that moment in time and would depend heavily on when and what you last ate amongst other things, including the effects of the "various infections" you have/had.
