Type 2 Waitrose carb counting - sugars = carbs????

are the sugars the same as total carbs???

No
Total carbs in US terms would be the carb count plus the fibre so 17g per 100g

I would assume your dad eats the whole thing rather than the 1/3 "portion" size

So from that pot he'll get 30.6g of "total Carbs" US style
19.8g of net carbs (i.e. total excluding fibre) UK style
of which 7 g will be sugar.

Is that what you meant?

Edit to ad sorry just saw you are in NZ.. not sure what your food labels look like if you can take a pic I'll see if I can help.

No - carbohydrates (shown if you click on the more detailed nutrition ) are more important if you are looking at his overall diet and individual carb tolerance.

Ah you were looking at the label that comes up on the first page.. sorry my error.. I am so used to clicking on the "Nutrition" bar that my finger just does it automatically...

OK, my T2 dad has told me what he has for breakfast

The waitrose soup he has for lunch does the same thing....

"Of which are sugars" is part of the carb content. Though, if they are snapping at the heels of the carbohydrate.?
I'd be more inclined to call it "desert." ;)

My dad was T2 too! Great you're both discussing the carb content..
