Waitrose coffee shop madness

I went into a Waitrose coffee shop today.

I ordered a coffee and asked for cream

" We don't serve cream"

Ok, then can I have full fat milk please

"We don't serve full fat milk "

"We can only serve healthy options these are - skimmed milk, semi skimmed milk and soy. We are not allowed to serve anything else with our hot drinks. "

Is it any wonder the incidence of diabetes grows by the minute !

Well at least they didn't do what happened to me in a cafe. I ordered a BLACK coffee and was asked by the waiter if I wanted milk or cream. I pointed out that black meant black, no milk or cream. He said he had to bring a jug of one or the other as it was policy.

I don't think my preference for skimmed milk in my coffee gave me diabetes.

I find that a sweeping statement. My Endocrinologist advised me against the high fat part of the LCHF diet as I am slim. Low carbohydrates is fine.

Most cafes and coffee shops seem to stick to semi skimmed milk. I think they consider it a midway point between skimmed and whole milk so are hoping it will be acceptable to,everyone.

A dash of semi skimmed in your coffee isn't going to be a problem.

This is a light hearted reply:

I follow a LCLF diet out of choice but I'm happy that LCHF actually suits a lot of people very well. A good example of "one size does not fit all". Or is it "horses for course"

For me it is can't stand the stuff, give me full fat milk or cream every time.

Though my grandson drinks about six pints of the stuff a day I'm aghast.

Yes, I have full fat milk at home too, but I dont sweat about a dash of semi skimmed in a coffee. It's only a supermarket cafe after all, so I'm only expecting a basic choice range.

My local coffee shop has a much larger range of milks and creams, but that's expected too. It also has a choice of coffee beans but, again, I wouldn't expect that from a supermarket cafe.

Semi skimmed milk in a cafe doesn't cause diabetes. It might not be everyone's personal choice but that's a different matter.

I have 100% skimmed milk in my tea because that's my personal preference. I can't abide creamy tea. I don't see any rise in my levels after drinking a mug full of tea with this milk.

You can email customer services and ask why Waitrose think they are qualified to offer health and dietary advice..
I have done this a few times and engaged in some lively banter.. although in the end its leads to nothing being done in store.. although my local branch now stock Oppo after I complained a lot about it being removed.. just a shame I don't eat it anymore..Oops
Depends if you have lots of time on your hands and like winding supermarkets up...

I agree I just don't like the taste.

Mind you the link below gives me a few more reasons to avoid it.

and it also contains Titanium Dioxide to make it nice and white.

That would be a reason to avoid all dairy : D (the claims about pus, etc)

If you're happy drinking cows milk, then I doubt there's much difference between full fat and skimmed for...er...that kind of thing.

I thought the titanium was a U.S. story. Are you suggesting it's in UK milk too? Personally, I'm more annoyed about the prevalence of homogenisation now.

People who think they know everything.
You can get an Americano coffee with a jug (or two depending on coffee size of) cream at Costa - and very yummy it is!

Maybe I'm having an off day, but I don't understand this at all. You're slim..... so you don't need to lose any weight, in fact you probably shouldn't lose any weight. Why then do you need to stick to low fat? What does your endo actually want you to eat, given it's not fat, and s/he's said low carb is OK?

There's only protein left. And alcohol.
