Hi,

I recently had this payment into my energy account I’m just wondering if anyone else received this, it’s not something I’ve applied for and have never received it before.

A friend told me it’s because I’m diabetic and need to have a fridge to keep insulin in.

Its not that, there are a few ways you can be eligible for it (https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme), but needing a fridge for medication is not one of them as far as I can tell, I certainly haven't got it
I don’t know then, I didn’t apply for it and I don’t match the criteria for receiving it. My son who lives at home with me does though he receives universal credit I wonder if it’s been paid to me because of that reason?

It is paid to anyone on means tested benefit.

It's only paid to the person whose name is on the electricity bill. Which energy company are you with @Sarah69
I’m with edf, I work full time and don’t claim any benefit. Why would my son not get it though he’s on universal credit and he lives in my house and uses the electricity/gas also.

Do you work for the NHS? (Seem to remember you are in the healthcare profession.?) just seen this. (In relation to the EDF company you subscribe to.) https://www.nhsdiscounts.org.uk/edfenergy.com

As your son may not be the “named” customer cohabiting. He may not qualify.

Thanks, I had a look at that but that doesn’t say I get £150 off my bill. Oh well I may never know why I’ve got it.

I would phone up and check you are entitled, if it’s been a mistake even in their part they can take it back, I would hate for you to spend it thinking you have more money than you do and then have to find it to pay it back.

As a side note my adult son is on benefits and lives with us. He doesn’t get any help towards bills that way as he is not named on bills so I doubt it’s through your son, as I say best to check

Not this year. The rules changed. You have to be on certain means tested benefits, and your home has to meet certain criteria. Only people getting it automatically are group one which are those in receipt of the guarantee pension credit so not even all pensioners are entitled this year.

@Sarah69 Did you manage to find out why you got the Warm Home Discount at all? It may help others to know they if they can claim it, or not.
