Great rant @RYU makes you wonder a times how brainwashed some people are.Warning Rant Ahead
After my HbA1C came in at 31, I went to see my practice's diabetic nurse who said how wonderful it was. However, she had never heard of the LCHF diet (she said) but agreed to drop my Metformin from 1000mcg to 500mcg/day. I just kept quiet.
I saw my GP about a week later. He was also very pleased, but said that carbs were definitely the things to target. He also agreed to take me off both Metformin and Atorvastatin completely.
So, the same practice, different views. I wouldn't bother arguing, but it's good to know this before you go to the surgery, as it is very annoying when you're not expecting it!
Do remember to plan for your meals while you are in hospital even if you are there as a day patient. The last time I was a day patient I was given tuna and cucumber sandwich on white bread, a pack of biscuits and cup of really revolting tea.
As the saying goes don't get mad get even. On my last visit to the DN she asked how I had managed to lose so much weight. I just said plenty of exercise and healthy eating, given her aversion to low carbing. Now I just let my test results do the talking - Hba1c down by 50%+!
I think, then, that I would assume it will take three months - and any shorter healing time than that will be a bonus.Luckily I live a 5-minute walk from the hospital literally according to google maps it's 0.2 of a mile also it's a quick operation should be done under a local and will only take 15 minutes. I'm not concerned over the operation it's self to be honest its the fact that the operation is being done on my right hand and I'm right-handed that and the fact that no one can tell me how long it's going to take to heal properly. I've been told everything from 3 days to 3 months so operation wise its more frustration than anything else.
unfortunately, my hba1c went from 54 to 68 so I can't let my results do the talking but I'm putting that down to the fact that we've just had Xmas, the stress of the upcoming operation and general day to day life.
the annoyance at the diabetics nurse I'm putting down to the fact that she was not listening to me and was a condescending -insert your favourite insult here- who didn't listen to a word I said hell I even gave her the food diet sheet that they had me fill out for a week her response 'you eat a very brown diet and I don't recommend you have a high-fat diet'. I've decided to just ignore her until next time and take the gf down with me lol once she starts on my diet the Gf will start on her as she does all the cooking and has made it her life's work to make sure I'm around for her to torment and torture for as long as possible so a healthy diet she cooks lol.
