Hi. I've recently been taken off lantus and been put on to tresiba and in a monthive put on over a stone. Has anyone else had this problem and if so any tips to help me loose weight. It's getting me so depressed and I'm planning a wedding too. I've tried to cut down so much but I'm just gaining so fast. Any help or tips

I hope you can get to the bottom of what is causing it.

@Lauzipoo , how long have you been diabetic?
 
Hi. I'm no expert but bear in mind that insulin allows the body to metabolise carbs and if eaten in excess the body will store them as body fat. I guess it's possible that the insulin change has enabled your body to better metabolise carbs than before? Are you already having sensibly low carb diet?

Pooh wedding dress shopping - have fun! I refused to diet before my wedding as lots of my friends did - looked amazing for the day then went back to normal sizes and as a result appear “to have let themselves go” compared to wedding photos!
Anyway, non of that helps you. So, how long were you on Lantus? Has anything else changed E.g. happy relationship eating where you eat the same portions as hubby to be? Has control improved on Tresiba?

Erm I've been diabetic for about 5years but ItS only recently that we have found insulin that is controlling my sugars. For the first couple of years they kept saying I was type 2 diabetic and they didn5 really take it seriously but now they have apologised and said they got it wrong and I'm type 1.

To be honest none has sat me down and explained about a low carb diet. I've cut down on bread of all types but that's about it. Is there any resources online that you recommend I read or see. I do kind of feel I've been left to my own devices to figure this all out.

I was on lantus for about 2 years. To be honest o dont think my eating habits have changed. Yeah the control on tresiba has been really good. My sugars are more controlled and I've actually been having very low sugars.

Wow, I'm sorry you were misdiagnosed. So in effect. Not great managment of BGs till started on insulin?

Sorry if it seemed like a silly question. Prior to an official diagnosis of T1, there can be rapid weight loss. As things settle into reasonable control of BGs this weight can be regained. Quite natural.

Yeah I think my bg have been controlled for about the last year maybe less.

I noticed in your earlier post, you've been having "low sugars?" Is this without any bolus (short acting insulin) on board?
Did your doctor prescribe the same dosage with the Tresiba as you were on the Lantus?
You may need to consult your doc & tweak the basal dosage down.. If you find youself getting & treating more lows than you should?

Yeah I'm on the same dosage as before. So could the basal dosage be contributing to the weight gain?
 
The lows could - as we eat to counter a low. So if your basal is too high that could be why you go low.

Possibly, if it's causing you to consistently treat more frequent daily hypos thus upping your normal dietary intake before the basal change.

You need to discus this with your HCPs, but if you are having more lows than before? Then it's easy in some respects to lose track of what was consumed just keeping the lows at bay?
If you log regularly your BGs, dosage & carbs consumed. You may find a pattern since changing the basal.

Don't blame the insulin. It may just be a case of tweaking the dosage starting with the basal, so you are within safe, well managed parameters without too many lows?

Has anyone explained a basal test to you? Might be worth doing one.

Not everyone on here does "low carb" because being a Type 1 you can deal with carbs. However as your a little in the dark that's not much help.

Have a look at www.bertieonline.org.uk this can help you carb count, where you match your insulin to the amount of carb you eat.

Congratulations on your wedding I'm sure it will work out.
