Hi everyone.been type 1 now for two years.and to be honest haven't looked after myself very well.
I'm 53 .but have decided to knuckle down and sort this out..was looking for some advice on putting on abit of weight.was just short of 13 stone when diagnosed and am now hovering around 12.would like to put on at least another 5 or 6 lbs.
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks Alan.

When I want to put on weight, I increase my carbs (and adjust my insulin as appropriate). I've found adding in extra carbs through the day is a good way to put on weight. I either add them to meals or have carby snacks mid-morning and afternoon.

See what suits you :)

Edited to add that obviously you'll need to test to make sure your blood sugar is in range if you adjust your diet.

Weight training with heavy compound exercises (especially squats), and get plenty of protein (as well as just increasing total calories). I can't think of a more efficient way to gain healthy weight, and not just extra fat.

Hi I'm 54 and also trying to add a few pounds , I have increased my protein a lot and kept my carbs as clean as possible . With extra exercise and weights it's working . But respect your age and don't go mad , walking is excellent exercise . Good luck .
