Hi: I have been worrying about my weight loss for the past while. I am two months short of 70, have had my stomach stapled since 1980, have only one kidney, lost 35+ pounds since starting the Keto plan back in June and appear to be healthy otherwise. My next BG test is Dec. 21, but it's been great for the last two tests. I am NOT on medication. I am now 119.8 lbs. I was wondering how I can stop losing weight (can't believe I'm saying this) now. I don't remember being this small since I was in my mid to late teens. Am I worrying needlessly? I have read that diabetics should only eat 3 meals a day, however, with staples one has to eat smaller meals so I'm thinking that's why I'm still losing. Can I eat more often? Is there anything I can eat to help stop losing weight, but keep my BG level? I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. Thanks and have an awesome day.

If you are are following a Keto diet fully (and only if) then you could try increasing your quota of good fats a little at first and see if this helps. I was in your position just a short while ago and I am seeing a better stabilising of weight at the moment. What I think may have worked for me is the addition of creamed coffee to my daily intake of fat but as you know there are alternatives. Good luck but take it steady!

Hi. I can't comment on anyone who has had stapling as it may require more specialist advice. What I can say is that there is no rule about diabetics only having 3 meals per day. You can have as many as you like as long as your blood sugar is kept in a good range and you are happy with your weight. Normally for T2, many of us would suggest increasing the proteins and fats, but not the carbs, to avoid too much weight loss.

Hi @Lynnzhealth - If your stomach has been stapled, as you on reduced portion sizes, as well as your keto approach?

If that is the case, I'd tend to agree with @Diabell that some specialist support could be the best plan.

When I was looking to stabilise my weight, I firstly upped my portions sizes a bit, followed by a bit more protein then a bit more fat. I have to be quite careful how much I up the fats as if I eat too much and my tummy gets rather upset.

Like all things, it's a personal balance.

Thanks all for the input. No, they can't unstaple it once it's done and it's been 37 years, so would probably be too late. And, yes, I've been doing the Keto as well as having to eat reduced portions. That's what I was wondering. I did read on some diabetic sites that one should only eat 3 meals per day and a snack if one is hungry, which is what my diabetic educator also told me. Then again, she told me NOT to cut out anything. Everything in moderation. Sorry, but carbs shoot my BG way up!! I can't find anywhere about diabetes and stomach stapling, except that a lot of people can get diabetes from that. Nobody told me that in 1980 I guess because it was so new and they probably didn't know. I love being this weight since I can't even remember when, but I don't want to go so low that I look sickly. I will up my portion sizes, add a bit more good fats, then proteins and see what happens. Thanks a bunch. It's good to know that others have stabilized their weight loss. Have an awesome day everyone.

In my opinion there is no reason that you can’t have more than 3 meals a day, in fact you may find more but smaller meals easier to handle.

I suspect that the 3 meals a day advice is for T2 diabetics who want/need to lose weight,or for T1s who are injecting 3 times per day....
