I find I am having to press 'post reply ' at least twice. Sometimes I come back to the thread later and the reply still hasn't posted.

I know it pauses if someone else has posted while I am typing a reply, and I get asked if I still want to post. This issue is not under those circumstances.

OK got a new bug to report. Yesterday I started to reply to a post in a thread, but decided to cancel. There is no Cancel Key, so I just exited the forum leaving a blank reply box. Today I posted a reply in a different thread, and my post apparently disappeared into the ether. No! it turned up in yesterdays thread as an errant itinerant, in the wrong place and causing confusion. I have now deleted it but it shows that once we click Reply in the box, there is no way of cancelling it. One has to post it as a blank and ignore the error response.

While we're discussing problems with the site, how about getting rid of the "You must wait ___ seconds to post this." ? What is that all about? Why should we have to wait x number of seconds to post something?

That was there in the old version too. I think it’s to stop autobot spammers

It's called "flood control", it stops spam posters from posting the maximum amount of spam in the minimum time.

I was going to post too that it was also a "feature" of the old version of the forum - AFAIK necessary to distinguish genuine posts from attempts of spam flooding.
And still we're weeding out spammers almost every day in the early hours...

But if we would get even more spam posts without this sometimes annoying feature, I'm happy it's there!

May I ask a stupid question? Why not install reCAPTCHA on the site? I'm sorry, I know it's none of my business (yes, I understand that you are not a programmer, but I can't ask them that)

Simple answer. Scammers are often human although those caught out by them may disagree. However, a Captcha can often confuse humans too if they suffer disability.

The delay in sending a message is also not done from people. It's generally difficult to do anything with a living person, they are usually blocked by ip (haha, as if not everyone knows how to bypass this), but spamming is somehow unworthy for such a highly intelligent being as a person, too boring an activity, a person would try to steal a database. Perhaps you mean by recaptcha its first version (where it was necessary to enter words) or the second version (where it is necessary to choose pictures), but the third version does not interact with the user at all (unless he is trying to do something similar to an attack, a la to develop or test the site), this does not cause problems for the average user

Hi mods @Administrator etc

A return to posting errors for me, again.

Running under mobile, web forum, dark mode...
not letting me edit or post, far too often for ease of use.

Way around it is to swap from dark theme to blue.

Which lets me post , edit etc but double spaces each sentence.

Cheers

I keep getting logged out mid post. Then told I have to log in to post it. It also takes ages to post. I don't think I have done anything recently to put me on the naughty step.

And a minor grump from me.
When I select part of the text to reply to, it often doesn't open the reply box and I have to repeat the selection and try again, often 5 -8 times before it works.
I use uI.x on a samsung tablet

Does mean I don't reply as much as I used to, which might be a good thing

Ok...I MAY have found a solution to my emoji disappearance.

If hitting 3rd set of dots above new post.

It opens offering 3 icons.
The first 'Bracket' ...if accidentally struck, shuts off the formatting bar icons.

If I select it, it switches the icons off & on.

Not sure I would have selected it at any point intentionally, so can only summise 'something' happening elsewhere is switching it off .

I hopefully don't need to worry if my emojis disappear again.

But it MAY help someone else.

It did switch off my ability to hyperlink, etc.

So maybe anyone having such issues might like to check it out ?
