What am I doing wrong

Avocado is full of potassium. Add some sea salt for sodium and minerals and top it with pumpkin seeds for magnesium. Eat it with celery. Perfect electrolyte and DELICIOUS!

Not to mention the fat in avocado is heart protective!! Avocado is one of the healthiest foods you can eat. I eat a whole one a day and the bigger the better!!

I have just booked an appt with my gp for Friday morning. My Dr is very forward thinking as it was her who advised me to start on the lchf diet, maybe you are all right and a quick check up would be wise. She gave me links to this diet so if there are any untoward side effects then I am sure she will know about them and put me straight on mineral levels etc and also let me know if I am being too strict with my diet. Thanks for making me see sense and at least I will know whether I am ok to continue or whether I should ease up a bit.

Just an update
Saw my Dr and she is very happy with my readings and agrees that symptoms are Carb Flu. She thinks I should up my carbs from 10% to 20% for a while until things settle down. She has also told me to up my water intake ( at the mo I have a 1.5L bottle of water daily plus tea and coffee) she feels that this is not enough for the very low carb diet that I am on. She also agreed that maybe I should have the oxo drink during the day as well as night time to help keep my salt levels up and to avoid any low salt products.
I am to have another proper blood test the first week of March but she is very pleased with my daily meter readings.
She also suggested that I come on the diabetes.co.uk website and was quite surprised that I was already a member !!!
She is around mid 50s and very slim however she confided that she follows the lchf diet this is how she knows all about it and recommends it to her patients
All in all she is well pleased and told me to keep up the good work and not to worry too much about slow weight loss as the change in diet is good for me as it is, and eventually the weight will go.
Peace of mind now so I can continue and know I am not causing myself any harm......

What brilliant news @Grannie75.
That doctor is a keeper!!!

Did you discuss magnesium and your nightly episodes with her?

Hi
Yes I told her exactly how I was feeling and the symptoms I had during the night but she was not particularly worried and felt that more fluid and slightly more salt should stop this problem and I should settle down soon. She checked me thoroughly and was happy with what she found

Although I have been told off for my trust in low carb - if you don't feel right, do consider going higher - I couldn't live on 20gm of carb a day, I'd be losing weight far too fast and be unsafe to drive - unsafe to try climbing stairs even.
The trouble is that I am not losing weight so the very low carbs are to try to kick start the loss of a few pounds. Once the weight begins to come off then I can relax the regime a little. This is under the guidance of my doctor. I am struggling to drop even a pound on 10% carbs so my body and my thyroid are well up the creek, this is the reason for the very strict carb intake for the moment

I do wonder, then, if you are one of the people with a metabolism resistant to weight loss, and Dr Atkins described a 'fat fast' plan which you might discuss with your doctor. It is basically eating a diet with up to 90 percent fat so that your body has no choice but to start to burn fat. Unless you are very resistant to lowing weight, which you seem to be, you should not do it, but your doctor should be able to assist.

Thanks Resurgam for the reply. I think you and my Dr are on the same wavelength. She mentioned yesterday that if I have no success on the very low carb the next time she sees me in a month then she suggested that we discuss a very high fat diet ( higher than I am on now) diet to see if we can force some weight loss, just for a short while. What is it they say about great minds.......

There was a great programme on this week looking at what happens to all the super swimmers that get awarded slimmer of the year... And research into why there is a such a huge percentage of them just put the weight and more back on.

Really worthwhile watching...although I am not commenting on their findings etc... Just found it interesting to watch. Could help those that plateau....

Super slimmers, did they really keep the weight off... Was on channel 4. It's on all4 to see it..

Food intolerances play a huge part when it comes to weight loss. Even low carb grains and all dairy can be huge. I could never lose weight eating grainsnor dairy. JMO

Amazing what the above programme said for people that have lost weight and (put back on) and trying to lose weight again.

@Grannie75 I looked at your typical day of meals and thought that it was fine. Same sort of stuff that I eat and I seem to be keto adapted and managing all right.

Your doctor seems to be a shining star!

Possibly worth getting a box of Ketostix just to check you are in ketosis; I eventually bought some which confirmed that I was at least peeing ketones.

Once you have settled into the LCHF lifestyle it can be hard to shift weight if your body likes what is happening. I am eating enormously less than I used to but at the moment not losing weight.

The most important thing is to have good blood glucose numbers.

Many thanks, I looked at Diet Doctor and saw the testing strips mentioned so bought some on Amazon and they have just been delivered 5 mins ago. I am now trying find info re the best time of day to test, I am sure I saw somewhere that evening was best but can't find that source of info again - advice very welcome

Many of us test right before we eat, one and two hours after. Then we can tell what the food is doing and if it spikes us or not. The goal is to keep bs as flat as possible and not spike and drop.

Many thanks, is that for the urine testing strips to check on Ketosis

Oh, no. Sorry. That's for a bs meter. I haven't tested urine in many years as so many variables changes it. Sleep, food, activity etc.

I just test bs and eat 20 c or less per day and moderate protein to stay in ketosis.
