Hello all. I hope you're all keeping warm now the weather is getting colder! :)

Since I noticed a bit of unrest going on at the moment (not sure what it's about), I thought we could all use a bit of distraction by talking about yummy things we've discovered we can still eat without getting spikes and maybe share some little yummy food inventions we've come up with, haha.

Personally, I love a couple of Marie biscuits (only 0.6g sugar per biscuit) dipped in extra bitter/pure dark chocolate spread. (basically high cocoa nutella, lower sugar). I'm still trying to figure out the GI of this spread I buy though. I've not seen it in the UK when I go home, I think it's a dutch thing. I know Nutella itself is low GI because of the fat, but surely a dark chocolate high cocoa version would be even lower?

I have to say though, the reason I LOVE this spread so much is: remember the old McDonald's chocolate ring doughnuts in the late 80s/early 90s? With that delicious chocolate stuff on the top? It tastes identical to that! Spread it on brown bread and I got myself a low GI doughnut

I am also terrible for Ben and Jerry's Berry White flavour. I'm not sure how low 23g carbs per 100g is for ice cream, but my body seems to cope with it well. It's so delicious I want to cry when I eat it.

Another thing I love which is low carb is Options hot chocolate. Only 5g carbs per cup. I always get my mum to post over a huge bag full of those!

I think the one thing I really love but have to avoid now is grapes, I can eat a handful of them and they will have no effect on my bg levels.

The problem I have with grapes is I cant just eat a handful and once I start I will usually end up eating the whole bunch  so I avoid them now :(

Fun post.

I think Dark Chocolate is my biggest vice. In fact i have pretty much turned my back on it as i can't control myself. It is quite low carb really (30%) but it is so fatty it plays havoc with insulin sensitivity for me anyway.

Apart from that anything sweet or crisps, basically anything bad at all!

I don't eat any of these things if i can help it!

A friend of mine makes the most scrumptious mango cheesecake. She made it again for the first time since my diagnosis for a party and I embarrassed myself by eating 3 slices of the blooming thing

Chocolate biscuits. I love dark chocolate biscuits. I fool myself ( not really ) that digestives made with wholemeal flour, sunflower oil and dark chocolate, are acceptable in moderation. Moderation should be no more than two, and I try to keep count. My last HbA1c was 4.4% so must be about right.

T2
Vildagliptin 50 mg
Glucophage XR 750 mg.

My boyfriend makes a wonderful orange cheescake and 3 units of insulin did just fine per slice

Also I have found KFC is not too bad (on the odd occasion) esp as their website has full details of all carb contents in all portion sizes.

XL Cheese Crisps or a nice Steak Pie

I don't have any..........now because of the Coeliac Disease............but I did like my bread and homemade cakes and puddings, Bread pudding being a speciality :(

Never mind eh

This week it's been ... cottage cheese with pineapple ... again!

Hi All.
For myself it has always been even since childhood
thanks to my mother and my grandmothers baking skills...

Custardy things like coffee renoir's/manchester tart
Clotted cream rice puddings
My ulimate weakness is given to creme caramels
I miss these - but do accept that they are a no - no now :)

Massive lesson learned when gave in to a weak day/moment .
Bought a coffee renoir savoured every 'bit' of it .
Then 2 hours later felt ' dreadful ' - with sugar levels over 16 ...
Never again !!!

Anna.

Freashly cooked roast chicken from Morrisons. My wife times it so she gets the last of the days roastings off the spit once a week

Mine has to be chocolate and there's no way that I can give it up - I buy the small bars from Aldi which have been recommended by members of this site - other nice things I can take or leave.

I love blueberries and grapes and just wished I could find a nice crispy apple - they are either soft or bitter. I can take or leave fruit and am fussy about veg, so getting my 5 a day can be difficult !

Best meal has to be a roast with chicken, turkey or beef. If I am active through the day I can get away with eating the things I like and so if I know I'm doing a roast I make sure that I have a blitz on the housework and gardening.

Braeburns are usually bursting with flavour, crisp and juicy with a very delicate sweetness. They're not tarty but not cloyingly sweet either. :)

Thanks I'll make a note of that and try them. I love apples but have been put off by the fact that some are soft and the hard ones can be very bitter.

Hi All.

As gracek says the braeburns are sweet n crisp in taste and texture
without being too sharp on the tangy side.

My little granddaughter and myself love these apples.
We often share one together.
