hello all

I could do with some advice

I like real ale am I allowed to drink it on a night out not that I go out very often once a month,
I have taken up mountain biking and normally would put water in my drinks bottle is there anything else I could put in it,

any help would be very gratefully received

Beer has sugar in it and since we tend to drink it in pints it is not a good idea. Summer weight beer has even more sugar in it.

The amount of carbs in beers can vary a lot so try to find some that are lower carb. The alcohol in itself isn't too much of a problem. How about no sugar added pops/sodas?

Hi Ginger, Do you like red wine? Low in carbs can actually lower blood sugar and may have cardio-vascular benefits too, if taken in moderation.
A pint of Batemans XXXB though:..DRIIIINNNNK!!!!

Can I thank everyone on here as I have been reading some post about what to eat what not to eat the bad news I like pasta and spuds and rice so looks like I will be buying shares in a cauliflower farm as I do like it but thanks for all the good advice

I low carb all week but I take a day off at the weekend and drink a good few pints of real ale, I exercise like mad beforehand to get the metabolism working well and I do a nice long cardio session in the afternoon the next day. i manage to continue to lose or maintain weight and my blood glucose tends to stay good and doesn't spike. Just don't do it every day (definitely not two day on the trot) and make sure you get back on the low carb wagon the following day.

May not work for everyone of course, so make sure to take it carefully to begin with and you need to test, test and test.

Morning Ginger; I am fairly new to the delights of T2 and this forum. However I have recently obtained a blood glucose monitor and my T2 appears to be coming nicely under control. I do not have the knowledge and experience of the old hands on this forum but I have not found it necessary (yet) to cut out complex carbs entirely.
I eat bread, pasta, spuds and rice but with the following provisos:
  • keep portion sizes of these foods small
  • Eat new potatoes or jacket potatoes with the skins on (definitely not mashed)
  • Eat brown rice not white
  • Eat wholemeal pasts
  • Eat wholemeal bread, not white, "Bergen" is recommended
The idea is to slow down the absorbtion of these foods and their subsequent conversion into blood glucose, i.e prevent blood glucose spikes. Personally I find these versions of these foods more tasty and filling than their "white" alternatives. By doing the above, my post prandial BG does not go outside recommended limits.
As for your comment on the cauliflower farm, my solution was to take on an allotment:- Tasty, cheap, wholesome veg valuable exercise and fresh air and an interesting social experience.
You will find a way.
Regards,
Jack

thanks

Jack I had to give my allotment up when I was going through cancer treatment I do like veg but could not be a veggi as I enjoy meat as well I will turn part of the garden into a veg patch
