What do these BG figures mean?

On Friday I met some school friends and ended up having a 'carby' meal. I reckon my carb intake was around 30g. It's very difficult to check on every ingredient in a restaurant. Some restaurants use flour in mince meat to keep it together when grilled for example, and you can never taste it or know it's there.

I had a steak, with some mash, carrots, pepper corn sauce so I had around 30g of carbs (estimation).

2 90 mins after eating my BG was 6.6mmol, 2 hours after eating my BG was 6..0mmol and then 3 hours after eating my BG returned to 4.8mmol.

My normal carb intake is no more than 20g, but usually its around 10g per day. I am also doing intermittent fasting (20 - 24 hour fasts) - I didn't fast Friday though, came home and had some salmon as I was starving after all that driving.

The A&E consultant said my HBA1C was 105, my GP said my HBA1C is slightly high and to exercise, so I am not a diagnosed diabetic.

I take 0 medication.

You have missed one of the readings/results out.
 
Your HbA1c was 105 and you are not diabetic - some mistake surely!
 
I wouldn't be alarmed at any of those BG readings.....the Hba1c however....which measures the average over the last 3 months or so is high

30g carbs in a meal on a special occasion is not that bad either!!

Yeah and that was no exercise literally drove to the cinema and sat down after the meal

Going to avoid further special occasions from. Low on though to get a good hba1c
 
If your Hba1c is actually 105 then you really need to lower blood glucose levels - stick to low cab until you get back to more normal levels - that is under 42.
How your doctor can call that 'slightly high' I do not know.

No, you mustn't miss out on special occasions - life is for living and enjoying.

The important bit is deciding what is a special occasion and staying in range the rest of the time. In my house special occasions are birthday meals, Christmas, our anniversary, promotion at work, that sort of thing but basically things that don't happen too often.

The other thing we tend to do when going out for a meal is a bit of research with on-line menus beforehand to see if we can find somewhere with something that I will enjoy eating and stay very low carb or restaurants that are okay with swapping extra green veg or salad for potatoes or other carbs. Tapas bars are really good for low carb selections as are those unlimited grilled meat places.
 
I think there is one thing of which we can be certain, and that is the 105 HbA1c is a misunderstanding

Methinks Diabetes.co.uk disagrees with the A&E doctor. That slider is well into the "red". That reading isn't good by any stretch of the imagination. Not a wind up is it? BTW, where did the A&E doctor come into this, have I missed something? Quite possible.
 
If I were you @charlie000 I would ask my GP what the HbA1c in hospital was. He will be able to view the test results, or at least have some method of finding out. Also, why did you have an HbA1c in hospital? I can understand an ordinary blood glucose test as these are routine, but it seems odd to have an HbA1c. I am thinking there really is some misunderstanding going on here.

The forum does seem to be “inundated” recently with posters who haven’t actually been diagnosed with anything.
 
They did a full bloods on me and my HBA1C came up with 105, that is all I know and they informed my GP to put me on to Diabetes meds
 
I was in A&E for atrial fibrillation, I am not sure why they did a HBA1C. I am really confused

I agree, it's appalling, people should have the decency to become dangerously ill before posting.
 
Hi Charlie, I think u should do more bg tests on your own to confirm. How about a few fgl tests, a few post meal tests within a few days. Even a 75g glucose load test after fasting. That will give you very reliable data.
