Just had a phone call from my niece - husband's niece - her mother has had a fall in her wet room and broken her ankle. She has an emergency alarm and so her daughters came to her aid very rapidly and called the emergency services. They insisted that, in case of other injury, the girls shouldn't move their mother but wait for an ambulance and para-medics. So they covered her as best they could and tried to insulate her from the floor, and waited; and waited; and waited for 5 hours before an ambulance came.

The medics told them that there have been cuts and so there are fewer para-medics and ambulances in service than before. So all their cases have to be prioritised and there are more urgent cases than a potentially broken ankle. However, the potential was for more than a broken ankle and that was why she was still on the floor. At 85, laying on the floor and getting cold was possibly more of a risk. Anyhow, she is now in hospital.

A further issue is that she has coeliac disease and so has to have gluten free food. The hospital has a problem with providing a gluten free diet so her daughters have to take appropriate food to her until the hospital can get its act together. They are in Saltcoats - the area covered by the Ayrshire and Arran health board. (Arran again).
One SNP candidate for Ardrossan Council declared today that people who don't vote for independence have high levels of negativity which leads to degenerative brain disease, cardiovascular and digestive problems!

I would think positivity is in short supply in Ardrossan if people hoped to get to Brodick currently.

This evening had another phone call. This one was from Em. She wanted to let me know that Ginnie had started having her pups. Only one had arrived when she called but she hung up pretty quickly so I assume more action was under way. That's good - Neil won't have to watch over Ginnie in case she needs help while the family is away.
Do you have an update yet? So exciting!
We need pictures too, badly. I'm a moderator, does that mean I can demand pictures?

I'm assuming that that candidate doesn't expect to be elected!

No further news yet and I'm afraid that I am dependent on DIL remembering to send me digital images since my camera doesn't work any more and I am having problems with my scanner as well. Failing that, I'll get Neil to take his big, fancy camera down to the house with him when he goes to look after the dogs.

Apparently DIL has had lots of enquiries already about purchasing the pups; some from the Island and some from the mainland. They have decided that, when the pups do go to new homes, they will be on the Island so that DIL can check out where they are going first.

Just been told - Ginnie had 11 pups - all around the 1 lb - 1 lb 2 oz mark. She didn't look that big to me when they came with her. I am promised photos asap. When I have them, I'll post them here for you to see. I would visit, but I can't get up the steps into their house. Apparently almost half of the living room is taken up by a large enclosure to keep the pups secure with their mum and to keep the other dogs out. They don't need that much space yet, obviously, but by the time they are a few weeks old, they will.

Oh my. Poor momma! I hope she'll be able to feed all of them herself.
I wish I lived closer, if I did, I'd come visit in 4 weeks to wallow in a puppy-pile, that's what heaven should feel like!

Meantime, here's a picture of momma, papa and auntie Bella. Bella looks like a small dog compared to the other 2 but she is actually a fairly large lab. Just shows how big the other 2 are. The picture is a bit dark, but I can't get it any brighter.

The pups and their mum came for a visit yesterday evening. She's a very good and attentive mum. The pups were all in a towel lined box and were so cute! Difficult to think that those tiny creatures will grow into dogs the size of their parents. All of them are black and white, which is odd because Banksie and Ginnie are both brown and white. Maybe they'll develop different colours as they get older. Ginnie is attentive but Banksie is protective - which surprised me to hear. He is such a good natured dog but he actually growled and snapped at Braidie for going too close - only snapped at as a kind of warning. He didn't bite. But a warning from a dog his size is something to make you think. I was also told that Bella was allowed in to the pups by their mother and was allowed to let them snuggle in, although of course, she can't actually nurse them. Maybe Ginnie is glad to share the load.

Neil did take a couple of photos, but I haven't received them yet.

Have an appointment to see a GP this afternoon. I was trying to get an appointment to see a nurse - the eczema on my legs (if that's what it is - I have my doubts) is getting worse and is currently inflamed on top of the normal rash, so I thought I would try to see the nurse I saw last time even though her treatment wasn't effective. The last time I asked a doctor about it, he sent me to a nurse because, according to him, they leave skin treatments to the nurses. Anyway, the receptionist insisted I needed to speak to a doctor, and that doctor has made an appointment for me to go into the Practice this afternoon. This means I can't take diuretics again and my legs will swell even more.

I also tried to make an appointment to see the only local chiropodist who can take customers at present but his waiting list is long and I can't get an appointment until the end of May. In fact, he has come out of retirement because there are so many folk needing chiropody since the hospital podiatry dept shut its doors to all general footcare problems, and he only works part time.

Just back from the GP - he wants me to send pictures to their remote skin specialist. Asked me (again) why I am on Furosimide (I've been on it so long, I can't remember why in particular). My legs are badly swollen anyway but my heart is fine and my kidneys are fine, so it's not that. Anyway - he has given me some Flucloxacillin to try to fix the inflammation and then we'll see how it goes. (I hate Flucloxacillin - it gives me really bad headaches, but I'll take it to try to calm my legs down a bit.)

This GP was apologetic at not being able to do anything immediately to reduce the swelling but, as I told him, I've lived with it for years so there's no urgency about it.

Neil will take pictures of my legs to send to the remote doctor.

Nothing would surprise me!

On the other hand, maybe he thinks the Ardrossan folk are so thick that they don't understand what he's saying. With some of the Ardrossan folk I know - he could be right. However, there are some pretty bright ones as well - mostly our family of course.

Asked me (again) why I am on Furosemide (I've been on it so long, I can't remember why in particular).
I was on the Furosemide 40mg x 2 twice a day, for 18 months for similar reasons my legs were bloated with fluid from the circulation problems. They started this when I was in hospital, Furo' and a catheter

I had a bladder infection last year, and I told my palliative care GP that it was really painful to urinate, she put me on a tablet called Spiractin 100 mg. to get rid of the problem.

They are a pink colour tablet with a peppermint taste / smell which are easy to swallow.

Once the infection was gone using some strong antibiotics, the Spiro' were working well in keeping the bloat down in my legs.

My former apprentice called in to say hello yesterday, and as usual he left his liquorice behind.

So far I have not taste tested them.

I was put onto Furosimide 80mg, and have remained on them for more years than I care to remember. That dose was reduced to 40 mg about 4 years ago with Spironolactone 25 mg added. Nothing works in terms of reducing the swelling in my legs and feet - in fact it is much worse than it used to be. This may have been explained to me some time in the past, but I have no memory of it. That may be because it didn't happen, or because I have forgotten. Looking at your post, it seems that the Spironolactone could be increased if the Furosimide is removed. I'll ask the doctor about that when I see him next.

My cat was put on furosemide for his heart failure, to get rid of the fluid in his lungs. Not comparing you to my cat, but between the swollen legs and your recurring need to sleep in a sitting position because of lack of breath, I can imagine the prescribing doctor hoped to help you with both?

I love them!
Just look at those perfect little noses and fat bottoms. I want to boop all their snoots and crawl in with them in that box for a group snuggle!

And sailing spam, as to not derail the other thread. We had a lovely day, very quiet and we heard birds everywhere! :)

Here's my friend and her mum.

Why is it that in pictures of others, you just see the person and how much you like them, and in pictures of yourself you mainly see you're fat?
Ridiculous, isn't it?

We had constant wind shifts all day, this is a picture of a very rare moment where the wind came from right behind and we could catch it with a sail on each side. :)

If they had been given recently, I would agree with you, but I didn't have these symptoms all those years ago. I think it was something to do with high blood pressure. Up to that point I had been on a BP medication called Neo Naclex K but it was withdrawn from the market. I think that's when it was first prescribed but I could be wrong.
