"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

I'm all prepared for taking my diabetes and covid to an all day (1 pm -11 pm) festival!

Low carb food for hunger: Two slices of bread with butter and cheese, cut in quarters, two triangles of cheese spread, a piece of dried sausage.
Sweets to fix hypos.
Crisps in case I keep trending lowish, BG is even less predictable than usual with this covid.
Paracetamol to help with the muscle aches, fever, and generally feeling blegh.
An old asthma inhaler which I don't expect to use just in case. Sometimes with colds or covid they can be helpful, but for now I'm breathing just fine thankfully.
800 mg of slow release ibuprofen has already been taken for giving me the best shot at having a good day.

Let's hope they'll let me keep the food if I explain having diabetes. The sweets are non negotiable of course, but they may want me to spend my money on bunless burgers and the likes, we'll see.

Booze will be smuggled in in fake blood donation bags in my bra and Tales underwear, I don't expect to be patted down that thorough. We'll see if we have som red food colouring left, which would make this so much cooler.
Fitting booze vessels too on a heavy metal festival called 'Into the Grave'. :hilarious:

Hope you and Tales have a great day, Antje.

Had my pot noodles. It was OK but not all that brilliant. I had almost finished it when an alarm went off. I thought it was the fire alarm and went rushing around to see where the fire was. It wasn't in the kitchen, wasn't in the hallway. Then I realised the alarm was only in the kitchen. It turned out to be a new timer that Neil had bought. He was making his bread in the bread machine and had gone to sleep again, leaving the timer going in the kitchen. In my haste to find the cause of the alarm, I had put my bowl of noodles down on a small table beside my chair (had my legs up in my big chair at the time) but kind of missed getting it full on. It dropped over the edge and fell, upside down of course, into my waste bin which was full of cardboard and paper. Just spent 20 minutes sorting that out - and I lost the last bit of my noodle dish!

Been doing some more cooking - just about dead on my feet now, but it's mostly done now. Made a couple of pots of cheesey pot noodles. When I use them, I'll add some Branston pickle to one and pickled onion to the other. Also made some ratatouille and am in the process of cooking pork ragout. That'll save me standing around too long tomorrow. More ideas in my head, which I'll probably forget by the time I get around to using the ingredients I've got so I'd better write something down before I do (forget).

Hello all, it's been another good day in the garden, slow but steady.

Breakfast 11am
3 scrambled eggs

2.30
pork puffs
2 pickled eggs

7pm
2 small lamb rump steaks with a tomato
Greek yogurt with a few strawberries

Off for a shower and then have my tea!

Had some deliveries due today so as needed to be at home I decided to do some sorting that was needed. I managed to fill the car with ten big bags of books and DVD s for the charity shop - will drive them down on Monday morning. Also got some gardening done - lovely day today.
I'm having a run of very low fasting blood sugars recently and feel hungry with it so I've recently been having breakfast most days. Maybe my liver has got used to being provided with food so hasn't felt the need to provide me with breakfast glucose! Who knows - 9 years since diagnosis of diabetes,of which 7 years in remission, there are still surprises.
Breakfast kefir then fried a slice of bacon and egg.
Lunch some cheese, kimchi and LC seeded crackers and LC coffee and walnut cake.
Dinner steak with onions, mushrooms and a few hm pre cooked and frozen new potato chips. Pudding a few strawberries with hm yoghurt.

My paenioa finally flowered this year (along with the camilias and the magnolia I'd almost given up hope on).

The flower on this is rather beautiful. No wonder it's called Bowl of Beauty! The sad thing is that the flowers don't last long.

They are not edible flowers either so I guess this chatty thread is the right place View attachment 68141
My late Mother was fond of paeonies @maglil55 and I grew this same semi-double selection Paeonia lactiflora 'Bowl of Beauty' for her.

Unfortunately, the weight of the flowers meant they needed staking, thanks to the stiff winds which are increasingly a feature of our weather. I found that support difficult to achieve without changing the natural habit of the plants.

I'm to start my new job monday morning at 7 am. It's only two days, monday and thursday, loading up shipping containers.
And now I have covid. :meh:
It's not too bad, sneezing, watery eyes, bit of a fever I think, generally feeling like a wet dishcloth, but it's definitely bad enough to make it very unlikely I'll be able to make a good impression on my employer on monday. Fingers crossed I'll feel better by then!

On tuesday, I'll have an interview for a job as an 'assistent kolkenzuiger' (gully sucker?). :)
Which my friends and I find hilarious, because in our youth we were all told we could always become a gully sucker if all else failed. So now my friends have a lot of fun about actually knowing someone who followed that advice! :hilarious:
I think I'll like the job too, although it's long days: 9 hours a day, but only 3 days a week for 9 weeks. We'll see, I hope they'll hire me.

Neighbour and I have tickets for a metal festival tomorrow, the way it looks now I'll go on character and paracetamol, and hope for the best. Our other neighbour was to go as well but she called it off, and I don't want Tale to have to go on his own.

Yesterday was another night of a fire and beer in the garden with Tale, and discovering we didn't really have a plan for our meals way past dinner time.
I had a pack of spareribs in the freezer, but it was still frozen solid and it was too large for the microwave to do a bit of quick thawing.
Occasionally I can do some pretty good thinking on alcohol (although usually not), and this is the solution I came up with, package and all. Worked perfectly, and the spareribs were very good! :hilarious:

I bought a new pack of spareribs today to put in the freezer for the next time we need an impromptu meal. Tale saw them and asked if we were going to eat spareribs again tonight.
Sounded good, and no cooking sounds good as well, so they won't make it to the freezer. :joyful:
We already spent the night together so no use for him to avoid me now because of the covid.
Here's hoping the worst symptoms of your COVID infection are short-lived @Antje77 and fingers crossed your troublesome neck disorder doesn't play up at the heavy metal music festival.

Your freezer must have enough in it to feed an army! Every post has you putting more in than you take out.
Hubby and I have recently challenged ourselves to eat/clear at least half ours so I'm banned from buying any more food (except yoghurt and milk) until we've done it.
I have packets of frozen veg in there that I bought as covid emergency stock in March 2020. And turkey stock from Xmas 2020!

Just had a very pleasant and laughter filled evening with a pair of friend/neighbours. It was fuelled by cheese, and wine
A simple meal of 7 cheeses (mostly Alpine) with accompaniments ranging from celery to kimchi (hm thanks to @shelley262), nuts to olives, pickles and crackers. Also some marinated chicken and stuffed vine leaves. 2 bottles of wine, some beers, brandy and coffee.
"Pud" was strawberries moistened in Cointreau with black pepper, and a mango and coconut parfait . All quite low carb except for the fructose.
The carb eaters had crackers and bread. I had hm lc seedy crackers.
An easy and stress free way of low carb entertaining

I had an absolutely amazing day at the festival, met wonderful strangers and shared icecream/chips/red dyed wodka with them either from my end or their end!
Nothing low carb about my day, beer started at 1:30 pm and I forgot to inject for it initially, and by 7:30 I had a whole portion of chips with mayonnaise (that's how we eat our chips in the Netherlands).
Did a pretty good job guessing my insulin doses as well, so while I ran higher than usual, nothing ridiculous. :joyful:

I still feel like a wet dishcloth with covid, but it's not too bad with the paracetamol. So I fully expect to have a go at this working thing on monday at 7 am.

It is that I had this wonderful day myslef, otherwise I'd wish I'd been there!

I wish I'd been there too @Antje77 and @MrsA2. Grazing a selection of 7 cheeses is my idea of heaven, not to mention (although I'm about to) the brandy!

You're right! I was just squeezing some mofre pots into the freezer this morning and thought how ridiculous it was to have all that food stacking up in there. I really must use some of it.

Breakfast was the cheesey noodles with Branston.

2nd meal will be fried fish with salad.

The ratatouille has been put into a container and will be kept for the next pot luck event that I go to. The remaining ragout is in 2 containers (one meal in each) and will be used in the coming week and the week after. I notice that there's a whole small chicken in the depths of the freezer, so that will have to come out and be used during the coming week as well. the plan was to emptgy the freezer and then defrost it, a couple of months ago, but that hasn't happened (too much else going on anyway, but also just too much food in there. Pretty sure that some will have to go out (dogs or compost to benefit). The dogs are going to think it's Christmas!

Hi all, hope all doing well. I am sure stuff secretly multiplies in freezers,it is all too easy just to put away little bits and bobs and promptly forget about them.
Sad news about Dr Mosley, he leaves quite a legacy of people who have improved their health and diabetes control because of him.
Yesterday
B Yog seeds,raspberries
L Prawn and avocado salad
D Pizza(fathead base) with mushrooms,peppers,pepperoni and cheese,coleslaw

Yes - very sad. I feel so sorry for his family as well.

Out much of today but before heading out had
Kefir and two boiled eggs with LC roll
Dinner chilli con carne with a few of my hm resistant starch new potato chips cooked in goosefat in the oven.
Just been following the story of Michael Moseley who it seems has been missing since yesterday lunch time on the Greek island of Symi. Hope he's found safe and well.
Such sad news today, I am so sorry for his family and friends. Dr Moseley was the first to wake me up to the idea that conventional diets were not the only way.
