"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Such sad news today, I am so sorry for his family and friends. Dr Moseley was the first to wake me up to the idea that conventional diets were not the only way.
Me too. I saw a snippet of him talking about how it was possible to reverse NAFLD using diet when GPs were saying that it was not possible to treat it. That put me onto the idea of low carb eating. His was a great contribution to the treatment of diabetes.
 
Hungry, not hungry, hungry but not feeling like eating anything, don't I just love a covid infection. :meh:

With my first day of real work starting tomorrow at 7 am (i.e. middle of the night for me) I told myself to quit the whinging and eat, so I did.
Slice of low carb bread with endive, a burger, smoked ham for lack of bacon, which was surprisingly good, and a mayonnaise based sauce I made over a week ago.
Looked still good, smelled good, tasted good, and only after eating I remembered the covid. :hilarious: I'll likely survive the dubious sauce though.

I managed to eat about 2/3, good enough for me and the dogs were happy with the rest. :joyful:

Next task: Try to go to bed at 9:30...
Not sure if this is realistic, it's 4 hours earlier than usual. But the covid may actually help here, bed sounds pretty good.

Neighbour Tale came by to ask for a covid test, at work they didn't believe he's ill and blamed the beer at the festival. :hilarious:

Evening everyone - hope you are all well and having/had a great day.

I've finally bitten the bullet and decided to get rid of my old cranky fridge freezer, which builds a glacier (no kidding, it's huge) at the back no matter how many times I check the seals, clean out the drain hole thingy or defrost completely. Just had a quick look but they're so expensive now! Does anyone have any recommendations? I'd like a medium sized one and I'm hankering after one with drawers for the freezer section (actual pull out from the outside, not open door then pull out). Budget under £1000.

@Antje77 very best of luck for tomorrow! I used to get up at 5am to commute to the city before the traffic built up, so went to bed at 8pm (I'm a 9 hour a night gal). Takes a bit of getting used to but I sometimes revert to that schedule now and enjoy an early start to the day. Poor Tale, I hope both of you feel much better soon!

I had an odd day today, didn't go in the garden except to put the bird food out for the rude starlings and dozens of sparrows - I love seeing them enjoy the food and freshly filled bird bath from my kitchen window. But then it was so cold and grey I didn't really feel like being outside, so planned to do indoor work then reneged on that and lazed about all day!

Breakfast 10am
Fried halloumi slices with a tomato
coffee with cream

Tea 6.30pm
small bowl of pasta (cooled and reheated) with butter
greek yogurt and cream with a few strawberries
4 montezuma's buttons
Cup of tea with milk

I really like the internet for things like this, but I mostly only realise it when I relay forum stuff to friends outside the forum. :joyful:
I also assumed you were a bloke*, not a gal for unknown reasons (all the more ridiculous because of my own rather unclear gender identity), another funny thing about being anonymous on the internet! :)

No help with the fridge/freezer, but interested in your choice once you made it.
I have a fridge with two freezer drawers, inherited over ten years ago from my grandparents, and it wasn't new by any means at the time. Might be time for something newer.

(*come in, @LivingLightly and @Annb . Things are never not about language, so did I guess correctly with using the word bloke in reply to gal or is it not wrong but also not quite right? I like trying out new words but I'm never sure if I use them correctly. :hilarious:
Also on that note, @MrsA2 , thank you for the new word 'foid'. I had to look it up and I like it! Apparently it's an Old Irish verb which currently has some less savoury associations in slang, but I love the original meaning. :) )

Tonight's meal was built around a fabulous picanha. It was utterly fabulous, thanks to the skill of the in-house cooking magician (i.e., not me!).

Lovely as it was it was tinged with a little sadness and thoughts of Goonergal, for whom picanha was manna from heaven.

Bloke is fully appropriate! A lot of people say that, it must be the way I type - I'm also not a girly girl, I'm a frumpy fat old bat who speaks her mind, competently uses power tools and doesn't take any guff but I always try to be kind ;)

If you're using the word "gal", then "bloke" is perfectly appropriate. Both a bit slangy but perfectly OK in the context. Foid is a new one on me as well. Sounds as though it's meant to be offensive - if you're not talking about a firearms license.

In that context @Antje77, bloke is appropriate IMO.

In my life, food can be a very good way to remember people we've lost in a 'soft' way (I wish I had the language here). For me, it can be like having an unexpected 'hello', those small surprising visits of memories may be the most meaningful.
My parents, lost friends, even my dog sometimes say hello in this way. It hurts, but usually in a good way.

In my life, food can be a very good way to remember people we've lost in a 'soft' way (I wish I had the language here). For me, it can be like having an unexpected 'hello', those small surprising visits of memories may be the most meaningful.
My parents, lost friends, even my dog sometimes say hello in this way. It hurts, but usually in a good way.
And a hug for the food memories, how lovely.
 
Yikes, with all this apprehension about starting a job, I more or less forgot about having diabetes.

I have absolutely no idea on what is expected. I'll need my phone,my meter, and quick acting glucose in my immediate vicinity, I may need to eat at odd times, and I have no idea what the job will involve.

On the up side, my alarm will go off less than 7 hours from now, and panic kicking in now and not 3 days ago is an absolute win!

Totally with you have felt very sad about his tragic death. He was one of the first mainstream Drs who brought to the public's attention that diabetes type 2 could be put in remission by diet.

It will be great, I'm sure! If you have trouble getting to sleep could you try breathing exercises? It works for me.

You need winner as well for dealing with the blues (or greys!) so well! 10 years is a good life for a fridge freezer nowadays, they don't make them like they used to! Mine is over 10 years old but has been acting up for a few years now.

How do you prepare the new potato chips for the freezer? They sound great, I really miss chips.

I know about your typing and eyesight, but I still love that it taught us a wonderful Old Irish word!

In my country, you can adopt a 'vergeetwoord', a word at risk to be forgotten. This one seems like a fine candidate!

resistant starch chips
you need
new potatoes - the newer the better I've just used some very white organic New potatoes and they are really low impact on my bg
A pan for boiling and
a tray that fits into your freezer covered with greaseproof paper or a washable silicone mat
Start by giving spuds a good scrub to get off any residue on them off as I cook and eat the skins
Boil in (salted to taste ) water until almost fully cooked
Strain well to get rid of the starchy water and leave to drain and cool
When cooled cut the cooked potatoes into chip shapes and spread out on the tray to open freeze
Pop tray in freezer
Once fully frozen put chips into a plastic bag they should keep separate and then you can cook just a few at a time from frozen in air fryer or oven.
Hope they work for you I'd suspect that we may all react differently but for me I don't have a rise however I only have a few so that may be part of it too.
