"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Me again. Just been reading that @IanBish ate his chicken legs a la Medieval way. That reminded me that when I was with my son, he took me to aMedieval show. It was fantastic. Huge arena, knights in different colours, horses draped in their finery, jousting, the lot. The food was served on wooden platters.... soup in a wooden bowl with a wooden spoon.... we were served half a chicken with small piece of pork and half a baked potato. For dessert we had an eclair so stuffed with cream it oozed out. (they did give u a napkin) We all were given crowns and a flag to wave to encourage our Knight. We had a photo taken and it's something I will never forget and I wish I had the words to give you an idea of the atmosphere there. Exciting, expectant, impressed might give you a rough idea.

Hello again everyone! I got back from my holiday on Thursday evening - not sure where the time has gone!

I travelled down on Monday, got caught up in a massive motorway closure so a 4 hour journey turned into a 7 hour one! Met up with my friend at the beach, then on to the B&B to check in before going to a pub for dinner. While at the pub, I started to feel really odd, irritable and unhappy. Thankfully I realised right away that my blood sugar must have been going low, due to my medications. I hadn't eaten or drunk much on the journey and it was very stressful, then at the B&B I'd rushed about having a shower and getting changed. I quickly ordered an orange juice and some crisps while waiting for our food, downed those and started to feel a bit better after a while (I'd left my monitor at the B&B of course!)

We were very lucky with the weather, my birthday on Tues was beautiful. Over the four days I had cooked breakfasts, ate a lot of seafood and not too many chips/potatoes/bread, and had lobster for my birthday dinner. Ice creams were eaten liberally though!

Travelling back on Thursday at about midday, another massive motorway closure, what are the odds? I heard later this was a person threatening to jump from a bridge, thankfully it ended without them getting hurt. It was another 6 hours with a lot of stop-start stressful driving though, so I made sure to stop and eat and drink plenty to avoid any danger of going low again.

It's a good few degrees cooler here in the frozen north-west and I think I have a mild bug as I also felt like I couldn't get warm and have slept a lot. No major headaches but a sore throat and stiff neck. Nothing too serious though!

I haven't gained weight over the holiday, I think maybe due to walking around quite a lot. I haven't started proper low carb again yet but I am getting ready to.

Overall it sounds as though you had a good time for your birthday treat. Congratulations.

Breakfast today was more RyVita and melted cheese. I'm getting very lazy about breakfast, which I know is not a good idea because that is the meal that sets me up for the day. Despite taking insulin to allow for food, BG has been a tad high the last few days in the 7's and 8's mostly, with only one event above that (11.6 briefly). Might be because of my cold which just doesn't seem to want to go away completely.

2nd meal will be a couple of pork sausages with some braised cabbage.

Tale has his birthday party in the garden tonight with a barbecue, a nice big fire, lots of beer, that kind of stuff.
Except, it's 9 Beaufort already and it will get worse...

Lucky thing he bought one of those trailers where builders have their break last year, at least the guests will have a place to keep dry if it starts raining.

I'll let you know how it went later on!

So Tale's zodiac sign is Cancer. That's why you get on so well @Antje77

good to see you here again but life never goes straighforward does it - always challenges. Hope your BILs operation goes (or went) well sending hugs and good wishes your way.

Sorry to hear about your stress take care of yourself its not easy dealing with the tough stuff.

Happy birthday Tale. Hope the weather isn't too bad and you all have a great time.

good to see you posting regularly again Rosemary and looks like you are making a big effort to stay on track - well done.
Find it interesting that they had to serve some potatoe and eclair for a medieval banquet! Sounds like a fun and enjoyable event though.

Hope that cold goes away eventually seems to have lingered quite a while

Happy belated birthday to Tale from me and hope the celebratons went really well for you all. Also hope the weather behaved it really is a bit erratic this Summer very unpredictable.

Welcome back from your holidays although those motorway journeys sound very stressful - especially when you are trying to balance what you are eating with your medications. Happy belated birthday and good that you enjoyed the day and your celebration Lobster.
Pleased too that you managed to not gain weight - great news. Hope you are feeling better properly and hopefully feeling ready to start proper low carb again soon.

Breakfast: Egg mayo with some crispy bacon broken up through it. Actually the bacon was crunchy rather than crispy - I'd left it in the oven too long, but it was actually quite good that way. Followed by some raspberries and cream.

2nd meal: may or may not happen. If it does it will be shepherd's pie filling.

The remainder of the punnet of raspberries needed to be used before they were too soft so I put them into a glass jar and microwaved them to make a sauce which would keep for a few days more. Unfortunately I ended up with nothing much left in the jar, raspberries all over the microwave and a big cleaning up job to do. Must be something to do with the shape of the jar.

Oh no! I've also initiated a fair few microwave cataclisms, accompanied by lots of eyerolling, sighing and resigned cleaning as dinner is delayed. I use a large pyrex jug now, with a loose microwave plate cover which contains any explosions to the jug and plate!

Thanks @shelley262! I was in very good spirits as I like driving and was listening to some nostalgic radio, but stop start in first gear for hours is hard work! I think it was mostly physically stressful, which I didn't really consider. I've never had a hypo before, and I think that was one - just goes to show that you need to be careful with forxiga, I think.

Party was great, but I decided I was too drunk to safely update you at 5:30 am before bed.
Slept until 1:30 pm, so the hangover isn't that bad. Stll, today is a perfect day to sit on the couch and not do anything else, so that's what I'm doing.

The builders wagon was perfect, we all fit in. Lots of wind and rain at first, two friends and I went for a spectacularly stormy swim before dark before resuming drinking, which worked wonders for my BG.
The barbecue didn't work out, by the time the rain had stopped and the wind had somewhat lessened, it was really too late, and besides, all our firewood was soaking wet.

The great big fire wasn't a problem though. Tale doubted we'd get it started, but I knew one of our mutual friends always keeps a 5 l canister of petrol in his car, which we confisquated. Had the fire going in minutes!

Food was grazing all through the night. Tale had boiled 25 eggs, so I had a few of those, I had some cheese and salami from my own fridge at some point, a couple of crisps when my BG threatened to go too low, a few paper thin slices of baguette with garlic butter. Lots of beer and wodka.

Happy belated birthday to Tale! The builder's wagon looks lovely and cosy. Here in the UK we think of that as typical barbeque weather, and at the moment it certainly is - at the moment I'm diving outside as soon as the sun comes out, and it feels so warm - then the clouds come back and it's so cold. A big fire is definitely a good idea!

Your friend's GP's messaging is shocking, unless she is ordinarily out of the UK, and therefore in a bit of an odd place for cover. Even if......!

Personally, I have just been through the 2-week (Big C) pathway with urology. Peeing blood takes the edge off your day, I can tell you!

Anyway, that whole process ran wonderfully, with every promise honoured. I was first seen on the 17th June (4 or 5 days after referral), and had unltra-sound scan, cystoscopy, CT with contrast, more ultra-sound, from a different angle and a repeat cystoscopy, up to yesterday.

Yesterday, I was discharged (probably "just" a very nasty infection - no stones or sinister signs), but now need a referral to Gynae for an 8cm cyst they found along the way.

Deep joy. I hope that referral runs as smoothly, bearing in mind we have just changed GPs.

I do hope your friend makes a full and rapid recovery. Healthcare in Thailand can be very good, provided you have insurance or money. They don't mind how you pay.

@AndBreathe sorry to hear you've had to undergo so many tests but pleased that it all happened quickly and you had reassurance from urology consultant. Do hope that the referral to gyny goes as smoothly. The quicker the better when something unusual is found or happens. Thinking of you.

To be honest, I would rather things like this were found than not. It's just a pain to have to go through another round of whatever.
Statistically, it should be OK, but being "of an age", they don't like these things lurking. We'll see.

I'm perfectly calm until there's a real reason not to be, then.....
