Fish twice today. First some tuna/salmon melts then, this evening some haddock goujons. I was intending to fry them but ended up baking them because my legs wouldn't let me stand any longer.

Also roasted some chicken drumsticks and made a casserole with some lamb - both meats on their sell-by date so had to get them cooked. That makes meals for the next 2 days.

Today should have been spareribs and some other things on the grill in the garden while teaching ourselves to splice an 8 stranded rope with a date found on a dating site.
No such luck, said date has the flu.
So my house is more clean than usual, which is actually quite nice, and the spareribs are in the freezer waiting for my date to recover.

I found some leftover shawarma in the freezer and had a mainly carnivore meal of shawarma with some mayonnaise, hot sauce and garlic, too lazy for chopping onions or bell pepper.
I've had an overload of veggies eating vegetarian meals with my group for 7 days (except for that one herring and some pork scratchings in my cabin), and the combination of being tired from the week and the deflation of the not-date justifies eating whatever is easy in my book.

Being new to this game,I find it quite confusing. I'm talking to two men at the moment but it's only short text messages. I have a date planned with both of them, Jan should have been today but is postponed until he's recovered from the flu, and now I have a date with a Tom on friday.
My common sense and my friends tell me that both of those dates will likely end in a nice evening with food and drinks, nothing more, no repeated dates, so chatting with both is perfectly fine until at least after meeting for the first time.
But it definitely does feel confusing.

Looking forward to my date though!
I'm going to the city of Groningen, and a good friend literally lives 200 meters from his place. So if after drinks (I'm by car so I'll be stuck in the city when drinking) I decide I dislike hime enough to not even want to spend the night on his couch, I'll have a back up plan and get to visit a friend I don't see nearly enough. :)

L: 2 slices cheese on livlife toast
Supermarket shop. Is it just me or are prices still rising astronomically?
Late dinner (hubby was out, said back at 7 but came in 8:30). Chicken and broccoli with a little rice and mozzarella cheese.

That's very flattering, knowing you're one the younger posters!

Just take care. Stay safe. Make sure someone knows where you are at all times. Have someone prepped for an escape call.
Will take care, no worries!
People are mainly nice and well meaning. My biggest fear is them being annoying or boring, hence my back up plan. ;)

Age doesn't have anything to do with it, there are lots of people in their 60's 70's and even 80's on that dating site, and my mum used to spell out the advertisements in the newspaper in the 80's and 90's. Same idea, only a different medium.

Cold chicken for breakfast. I'll use the rest for a 2nd meal with a coconut, lime and spicy sauce with maybe some broccoli.

BG is a bit (a lot) disjointed at the moment. Going very high for no reason I can understand, then when I have no food or drink for a few hours, it drops down into the 3's. Yesterday the day's range went from 17.9, to 3.3 after about 4 hours with no food or drink. The 17.9 was even with extra insulin to try to get it down from 13.3. At 3.3 I had the haddock goujons with a little salad and BG went up to 10.3 before bed. 10.5 at 03.30 today. Insulin before the cold chicken (other times I wouldn't need it), cup of coffee, and now BG is 8.3. I guess the insulin is working, but taking its time to do so. Hungry, but don't dare to eat anything else. This happens from time to time and I have yet to work out why. Could it be something to do with my Disorderly Mitochondria*, I wonder.

* Doctor has diagnosed "a mitochondrial disorder" as the cause of all my odd health issues. Nothing to do about it apparently but nothing really to worry about. One of those things you die with rather than from.

Breakfast, egg, Greek yogurt with a four raspberries and a sprinkle of chia seeds
Lunch, the last of my secretly imported faggots with onion gravy.
Dinner, @LivingLightly lunch yesterday sounds perfect to use up a few crimini mushrooms, a garden leek and the last of my grown green cabbage, not a terribly successful year for the green cabbages. My little piece of leftover blue cheese is Roquefort so I’m going to give it a try. Cooking cabbage like this will be a first for me. So many great ideas, not to mention support, on this corner of the online world. So glad I found it.

Sounds like the perfect arrangement @Antje77. It's only sensible to have a back-up plan.

No experience personally @Antje77 (I've been married for decades), but I have family and friends who have met their soul mate this way.

On the whole, it's probably safest to enjoy the first date at a neutral location like a restaurant, until you get to know each other a little better. If there's no romantic spark, what does it matter? You can still enjoy an evening of good food and convivial conversation.

Thanks, I couldn't agree more @MommaE.

I've picked up loads of culinary ideas and tips from this and the main thread. Mushrooms in particular provide such a depth of flavour. The firm and meaty texture makes chestnut mushrooms perfect for sautéing, roasting, or adding to soups, stews, and sauces.

Enjoy!

BG's low today. Had some ordinary bread to bring it up. To give it some taste I covered it in the left over gravy from last evening's chicken. BG currently 5.3.

2nd meal will be some of the lamb casserole that I made from the almost out-of-date lamb.

Talking to the husband of a young couple I make cakes for frequently when they have a gathering of friends at their house, alongside the savoury dish I usually also make. He tells me he has been told he has a fatty liver and he should stop eating fats and reduce meat. I suggested that he should cut down on sugar and even on carbs in general and not worry too much about meat and fats - other than transfats. He had already thought he would do that anyway but finds it hard to resist sweet things when they are there. I have decided not to tempt him any more with cakes so will be making far fewer sweet things in future. Pity - it's what I do best. It won't be a perfect answer because they do eat lots of pasta and rice, but I can't change that for them.

Safest maybe, but also boring, and I often find it quite hard to have a conversation over dinner or drinks, being stuck in a chair and having to conversate while being mildly uncomfortable.
Our plan got a bit confusing, and I was painfully confronted with diabetes for a bit yesterday. I asked him at what time he'd like to meet, before or after dinner, and he proposed meeting at around 4:30, have a drink, and then he'll cook us something.

Perfect plan except for diabetes...
So far, we'd been exchanging short and witty messages, showing a happiness to meet without worries or overplanning. And now I had to decide if I wanted to keep this up and accept his offer, which would likely mean hours of annoyingly having to deal with diabetes and corrections or hypos, alarms, or if I wanted to let him know up front he's dating someone with a chronic condition requiring odd food choices and injecting medication.

Not an easy choice with our chat so far being very casual. (It started with me sending him a message in reaction to his profile info saying something like: "Beer in the pub - like; walking the dog - like; car trip to the south - only if it's not too hot, want to go have a beer together?" and he replied with: "Sure, when and where?")

I chose breaking style and explaining I'd love to, but I prefer to eat lowish carb with a short explanation on the main carbs and insulin dosing being difficult, but not impossible. The next couple of hours were quite stressed, waiting for a response, and when it came he proposed meeting after dinner.
This made me quite sad, not sure if he wanted to make things easier for me or if he was having second thoughts about dating a diabetic. I don't think I've ever felt this diabetic before.
He would have known anyway very shortly after meeting when I'd take out my insulin pen before the first beer, but that's different from making things complicated beforehand.
I replied that I'd much prefer to eat at his place, no matter what he cooked, and that I can dose for high carb meals but it just takes more work. And spent another few hours stressing about his reply.

Turned out I was worried over nothing!
His next idea was to do the shopping and cooking together, he was very interested in keto because he wants to lose a bit of weight, and he prefers vegetarian but does eat beef and fish.
Sounds like a very fun date to me! :joyful:

BG has been low today and I've had to keep taking carbs to keep above hypo levels. A few weeks ago I thought I had this diabetes thing all worked out and was keeping BG stable and within range. Now it's all going wrong again. I don't want to have to keep eating carbs - it puts my weight up and might be damaging to my liver which has been doing fine recently. But what to do? No idea. Keep a watching brief, I suppose and see if it comes back to normal.

This sometimes happens to me. I usually give it a few days before adjusting my basal, one day is a blip in my book.

Boring? BORING? I was astonished at your response @Antje77. Having read your hilarious posts on this thread for some 18 months, I believe there would be zero chance of spending an evening with you over a meal feeling bored!

If a dinner date (with somebody else taking care of the catering) sounds boring, you definitely haven't met your soul mate. When Mr Right comes along, you'll know quite soon and the location and circumstances won't matter one jot.

Just back from my leg bandaging session and on the way back, considering what might be causing BG problems I realised that for a couple of weeks now, I've been on a higher dose of Levothyroxine. I seem to remember reading that Levothyroxine does affect blood glucose but can't find the notes from the packets of pills that I have. Must look that up online.

Breakfast was just a drink of cold milk.
Probably a day for having lunch - salmon maybe.
Other meal: I still have some of the lamb casserole left so it will fit the bill.

But maybe Antje would be bored with such an evening. However, it sounds as though it will be a lot better than that.

I think it's just that I'm mildly uncomfortable in restaurants, not in the last place because of diabetes. I find it much easier to talk and get to know someone when actually doing something together.
And meeting at home saves you from the awkward moment afterwards where you have to decide to go your separate ways or home together when you're not sure what the other wants or expects. (Or maybe we've just swapped that one for the same awkward moment when a decision on couch or bed has to be made. :hilarious:)

Going for groceries and cooking together sounds like a much more fun date to me than sitting in a restaurant. Deciding on what to eat gives food for conversation right away, making things easy at the start. :)

I have some ideas on LC and vegetarian dishes we could make, but who knows what ideas he'll come up with. Very much looking forward to tomorrow!
