"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Thanks @maglil55, My DIL is never ill. She is 57 and has been with my son since she was 16 and this is the 2nd time I have known her to be ill!! I call her the whirlwind of the family, she has so much energy. They both said their joints ached badly too. I'm glad you are feeling better.

Oatmeal
Another sad meal

Almost 5pm and still not eating the planned two meals a day - I changed my routine and cannot restore it to what was very successful.
The slimming shakes and low calorie meal for 2 months shook up my metabolism, but not in a good way.

Breakfast: the last of the chicken and mushroom thing that I made yesterday. It would have been a pie if it had had a pastry case.

I did have another piece of cold chicken about 3 pm, but I shouldn't have, I didn't really enjoy it and it has filled me up now for the rest of the day.

Out for lunch tomorrow for a "family festival" with a lot of people from various parts of the world - mostly refugees from war torn areas. It will be a pot luck lunch and I am taking 2 vegan dishes because some of those there will be at least vegetarian on religious grounds. I've made a big pot of leek, broccoli and potato soup and a pasta dish with tomato and vegetable sauce. Neither of which I can eat, of course, but someone usually takes a bowl of salad, so I should be alright for food. Better have a substantial breakfast though - just in case.

B: smoked salmon with 1 scrambled egg
Hours walk
L: ham and cheese. Piece of cake
Visitor arrived for a week. We have very different eating regimes. She grazes on carbs all day long. Ive put food for her out in marked tins. It's Going to be hard to not pick .
D: turkey curry (hm,lc) with green veg medley. Small coffee ice cream.

Bg already up and staying up

Morning all. I'm not feeling very well today. Not really surprising I suppose, with all the illness round my family and also in my village! But I'm going to fast as long as possible and drink as much as possible (not alcohol I hasten to add) and see what happens. It's a lovely sunny day, though cold, but at least it's cheerful. Have a nice day all.

Going to try to eat the can of tuna that came in the poor people Xmas box. My stomachs been awful for a few days.

A bit of a catch up in a very random way.

On the 26th (second Christmas day as it's called here, very useful for people who have to please multiple sides of the family celebrating Christmas) I drove home from my aunt and uncle after spending the night. The plan was to have a festive cheese fondue with the dogs and cats but I was tired and enjoyed a lazy evening on the couch, think I had a LC sandwich or such.

Neighbour Tale went on a short holiday with his girlfriend so he informed me that apart from taking care of his dog, cats, chickens, turkeys and runner ducks I had to throw some extra food in a shed.
We have Christmas chicks!
Some crazy chicken thought it was a good idea to lay eggs in winter, in a good hiding spot. And then she hatched seven chicks on Christmas day.



So on the 27th it was the planned cheese fondue. Instead of bread I used Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, a thin cut of pork and a slice of LC bread to dip, very good.



On the 28th I had a surprisingly enjoyable date!
Steve and I met for a coffee followed by a beer in a pub. We talked for a couple of hours and then he had to go to bring his rooster inside to keep it from annoying his neighbours, and to take care of the old lady he helps out.
We agreed we should meet again, preferably at home so we could have a couple more beers (driving), and then decided we could do this just as well the same night, why not.

So we first visited the old lady and the rooster. Getting the rooster to come inside turned out to take quite a long while so I had a lovely time talking to this eccentric old lady while we all waited for this huge bird to finish his inspection of her living room before it decided to retire for the night and went into its huge cage.

And then we drove to my place and spent an evening talking and playing music. He mostly his own songs, I mostly Bob Dylan, next time he'll need to bring his guitar to see if we can play some things together.
We ordered food, which is a diabetic nightmare, but I magically got it right, no alarms through the night.
I don't think he's the one for me, but he may well be a new friend, which is very welcome, and I quite like the benefits as well. And he loves the dogs and cats, happily sharing his pizza with them and happy with dogs sharing the bed too.
Next date will likely follow this weekend.

Yesterday there was a neighbour thing starting at 5 pm, so I had lots of beer and wine, and liverwurst, cubed cheese and nuts. Back home I had the small leftover bit of the Turkish pizza from the day before, but no such luck in dosing my insulin, I stayed highish all night.

Today I had the meal originally planned for the day before yesterday. The other thin piece of pork, Brussels sprouts, and cauliflower, with the leftover cheese fondue turned cheese sauce.

Morning all. Going to spend New Year with my family and keeping fingers crossed that everybody stays well! My Irish granddaughter is coming up from London for us all to meet her new boyfriend, my grandson has come back from Czech Republic with his new girlfriend so it will be a real family gathering. A very Happy, Healthy and Peaceful 2025 to you all and Gelukkig Nieuw Jaar @ANTJE EN @JoKalsbeek .

Yesterday's breakfast was the remaining cauliflower cheese.

Went out for a lunch I knew I wouldn't be able to eat - even my own offering was high carb because it had to be vegan and I don't know a satisfying vegan recipe that doesn't have carbs. I just had a cup of tea. It was good to see everyone though.

By the time I came home, I was shattered so just had some cold chicken for my 2nd meal.

I had a great Christmas because one cousin I haven't heard from in goodness knows how many years (I am in touch with his elder brother so did get the occasional bit of news), sent me a card and a promise to write soon. Then another cousin with whom I had completely lost contact and who I have been trying to find for 25+ years, was found. Her son was on the Ancestry website and I contacted him many weeks ago but he hadn't looked at the site for over a year. However, he finally replied to my message and included his mother's phone number. So I called her and we had a really lovely, long chat. That's made my Christmas for me.

Monday had a social day
Coffee with girl friends in the morning
Tea in the afternoon with neighbours
Quiz in the evening in the pub.

Fasted morning but too many biscuits and cakes rest of the day. My visiting friend is a picker and grazer and there's just too much food (carby food!) around, and as you all know I'm just a girl who can't say no.

Have friends coming in tonight for copious amounts of cheese and wine

Breakfast today, when I remembered it, was a couple of RyVita with Tartex.

2nd meal was something indefinable out of the freezer. It had a lot of vegetables in it and a tomato sauce. Pretty sure there was some meat in it as well (maybe lamb) but I couldn't be sure what it was. Filled a gap anyway.

I was going to stay up until after midnight and then wish you all a happy new year, but I don't think I will. Too tired. May be back up by 3 or 4 am,so will post that message then, but in case I sleep in - A guid New Year to one and all.

Happy New Year everyone! Hope all are well and recovering from the festivities. At my sisters for NYE last night and I was driving so feeling fine this morning. Two crackers with cheese and two after eights late last night have had no effect on my bg so the diabetic gods are smiling on me to start the New Year Will be nice to get back into normal routines going forward though.

Happy New Year everyone and here's hoping the whole world has a better 2025 than 2024.

Still thinking about breakfast but it will probably be bacon and egg.

2nd meal is going to be a lucky dip out of the freezer - no idea what I might find in there.

I'm going for a lucky dip into a different type of freezer, 1st of January traditionally is the day that crazy Dutchies have a swim. I can't stay behind of course so I'll see how many of my neighbours dare to go in with this storm. The wind is about 9 Bft with the occasional gust over 100 km/h with a nasty rain as well.

The swim was great fun, and despite the horrible weather there were nine of us going in.

The neighbouring farmer let us use his barn to change, and another neighbour had brought a pot of hot chocolate and a couple of bottles of Weduwe Joustra beerenburg (a local Friesian specialty, it's a type of jenever with herbs, no carbs).

The others had their hot chocolate with a generous splash of beerenburg, I had my beerenburg with a splash of hot chocolate.
A perfect breakfast to start the new year!

I'm seriously impressed by your new years cold swim what a brilliant way to start 2025. I went on a walk with coat, gloves and hat and the wind was bitter - so the thought of taking warm clothes off and getting into cold water is seriously daunting.
