"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Eventually had the 2nd half of yesterday's vegfull omelette about 4.30 this afternoon. Could have done without, but I thought I'd better have something to go with all the drinks I've been having (tea and milk). Weird feeling is not so bad now, but is still there. Still very tired but don't dare to go to bed too early in case I have to get up again about midnight.

I cooked a wonderful meal for myself and Steve (third date with him), forgot to take a picture but it involved green beans, marinated pork belly pieces, onion, bell pepper, mushrooms, a fried egg and a spicy peanut sauce.

We'll go sailing tomorrow, I'll send you some pictures!

Application for the job has been sent on thursday, please feel free to cross your fingers...

Crossing fingers and toes for you.

The day started well. BG 6.5, pulse almost normal. Feeling much less shaky. I think it must have been something I ate - it felt much like bad reactions I've had in the past. Shouldn't have been haricots - never had a problem with them before. Neil was suggesting that the butcher may have put something different in the sausage mix. Possibly. The 3 days duration of the problem is what I might expect from a reaction to food. I had a bacon and spring onion omelette for breakfast, followed by my daily pills and it started up again, briefly, but has settled again now. Odd.

Now, what to do about a 2nd meal. Vegetables in some form, I guess. Maybe soup without any beans. Don't need any protein element really.

Early walk witha friend. Was easier to cross the frozen fields than the slippery paths and roads.

11:00 another portion of last nights chicken thighs and cauliflower cheese. 2 chocolate covered glacé orange slices left from Christmas. Had one yesterday and bg was OK, but 2 today was too many!!!

Struggling with sinus type headache all day and blurry eyes. Opticians Appointment tomorrow as think something has happened in my "good" eye.

D: mince and cabbage cooked in slow cooker. Served on half a medium size jacket potato. Rise from 5 to 9.

Listened to more speakers on the Quit Sugar summit. Anyone heard of Garrett Smith? Was very interesting on liver, supplements and oxalates in particular

Thank you all for crossed fingers and other body parts!

Today was the same meal as yesterday, but on my own so I didn't forget to take a picture this time.
I think I'll turn the leftovers into peanut soup tomorrow. :hungry:

The sailing with Steve was wonderful!

A bit of a roundtrip to get there, as I had to drive to his place first so he could let his cockerel in the garden for the afternoon, so we had our morning coffee in the car. I brought a thermos of hot water with a herby stock cube to keep warm on the boat, which for some unknown reason is the perfect drink when sailing even if I never have it at home.
I also brought LC bread, butter, cheese and marmite to have for breakfast/lunch. I pre-bolused for it whe I started to get hungry, and then found out I didn't bring a knife so I sat in the boat looking stupidly at my food and wondering how to change my ingredients to a sandwich without anything to cut the cheese or spread butter or marmite. :hilarious:
In the end, I used my lighter to spread butter on my bread (smoking turns out to be useful for something after all), decided that marmite was too complicated, and alternately took a bite from my buttered bread and my block of cheese. Worked fine, but I hope no one will want to make themselves a cheese sandwich at my place until I've eaten my way past the bite marks in my cheese!

Here's the promised sailing picture, Steve concentrating very hard on the direction of the wind:

And just because the sailing place has a very cool water slide, I just had to go in after sailing, no matter that we saw a thin layer of ice on various waters while driving there. :joyful:

It came back! After I had a small handful of roasted peanuts. Peanuts have never been a problem for me in the past. However, these were made for the Co-op and were roasted with sunflower oil. Not clear what the problem might be - I have used both peanuts and sunflower oil in the past with no ill effects but haven't had either for a long time. Might have to try to talk to a doctor tomorrow - it might not be a food thing after all.

Tried to talk to a doctor this morning - no chance. I did get into the queue on the phone but was cut off after 10 minutes holding. Finally got through at 9.15 and was told no appointments so go to A&E. Just waiting for Neil to wake up so that he can take me.

Just decaf tea so far today. There's a pot of soup ready to go but I don't feel like it at the moment. BG did drop into the 3's but the tea dealt with that and I am now comfortably into the 5's,

Back from A&E now. Spent almost 4 hours wired to an ECG machine. Had 4 blood tests (they struggled with that) and had a few stethoscope examinations. There's something a bit out of kilter with my heart but it's not, by itself, dangerous so it's all being referred to the GP to keep on top of the high potassium level and to set me up with a 24 hour monitoring thingy. By the time I'd been forced to lay still on a trolley for 4 hours, my heart calmed down all by itself. My back and legs were screaming at me to move though/ That's the longest I've laid still for years. Maybe that's part of the problem.

Finally, about 4 pm, had my bowl of soup. Very welcome.

Feel for you having to go to A and E to get checked out rather than your GP but pleased you did go and get yourself examined. Hope your GP does follow up properly and helps you to manage this condition. Sounds like they think it may be connected to your kidney function and related electrolytes in particular potassium. My mum lived for a fair few years with kidney function issues and felt quite poorly when her sodium and potassium were out of balance. Getting the fluid level right seemed to be part of the issue. Hope you get some good advice from GP.

Sounds like a very rough day @Annb .
Glad you enjoyed your soup, and very, very happy they didn't see anything to be overly worried about right away, even if things need to be looked into.

Same ingredients, different meal. :)
Added the veggies to the peanut sauce and fried a small onion and half a bell pepper to bulk it out enough for two days worth of soup. I also added a whole fresh chilli pepper, seeds and all. With Steve being English I had been rather careful with the spices to be on the safe side, I wanted him to like my food, so today it was time for a bit of a real kick. :joyful:
I even had enough leftover herby stock cube plus water in my thermos from yesterday to soupify my meal, saving me from using half a stock cube. :hilarious:

Again with marinated pork belly pieces and a fried egg.

A chunk of cheese before exercise class
Class then tea with friends after.
L: 2 lc crackers with pate and coleslaw, a bit of stilton. 2 sqs hm lc brownie served warm with cream.

Opticians!!! After many tests she thinks it's sugar affecting my good eye. That's it, the motivation I needed to stop trying the odd "carb". Seems even a few Christmas bits are too much for me. Libre says I've been in range 94% of the last month. I thought that was good! My eyes disagree..

And hubbys had a scare today. Text from Gp says "he has an enlarged heart. Does he want further tests?"
Well, of course he does, and some information and some humanity. He doesn't have any symptoms except for slightly raised blood pressure so a huge shock.

D: mince , his with rice, mine without. Ff greek with chopped dark chocolate

I'm sitting here after reading @MrsA2's and @Annb's post, wondering just what do we have to do to be healthy? Years ago. a Professor John Yudkin wrote a book on sugar and I think he called it White Poison. No-one really believed that at the time, how can anything that tastes so good be bad for you? But he's been proved right. I have come off sugar completely because of what the camera found in my eye and it frightened me. I'm gradually phasing out sweeteners too. I hope everything turns out well for you both and with your husband too @MrsA2. :)

I remember years ago a quarrel I had with my mother in law - a very rare occurrence - when she dipped a dummy in sugar and gave it to Neil. She couldn't understand why I objected: "It's pure," she insisted. "Yes, so is poison," I replied "But I wouldn't give that to a baby either." She was sooo offended, thinking I was accusing her of poisoning Neil. Actually, in a way, I suppose I was. In fact, it turns out that sugars are allergens for Neil, although I didn't know that at the time.

Today was the last of the peanut soup, pork belly and a fried egg, a perfect portion, too bad for the dogs who didn't get anything. :joyful:

Today started with an early outside swim with two others, followed by aquajogging in the pool, good start of the day.

All the crossed fingers didn't work, I receivend an email to let me know they're not interested in hiring me as a harbour master.
And Steve has the flu and is feeling very poorly, let's hope it's a short thing and he'll be fit to visit me again this weekend.
I'm still not sure about my feelings for him, much as I like him as a person, but I'm very sure I like sharing time, talk, music, food, drinks, our love for animals, and a bed with him.

So it should be a pretty rubbish day but it looks like december and its gloom is leaving me, the days are getting longer, the weather is much friendlier without the constant rain, and I feel pretty good.
