It's by a very posh dried sausage making company so I expect it will hold something very yummy.
But as it will be my birthday in 3 days, I also expect it to be a birthday present.

So I'll put it somewhere out of reach of the cats and dogs, and see how much self control I have over the next few days! :angelic:

An update will follow on sunday of course, as soon as I've opened my package!

Happy Birthday @Antje77 for Sunday it looks like it will be yummy enjoy and enjoy all your celebrations over next few days birthdays should be spread out over as many days as possible!

You would think I would be more sensible in my old age, wouldn't you? Joints are being grateful at the moment because I am sitting down.

Not sure if I could put the parcel aside for 3 days - I'd have to have a peek and see what it was. Impatient these days. I used to be very patient - famous for it in my own circle - but not now. Something to do with much less time left than before to practice patience.

For a while before I retired I put a notice up beside my desk in the College which read: "Once my patience was legendary; now it is a myth!" as a warning to students.

Odd thing today - my BG just won't go up to a reasonable level. Currently 3.4 despite 2 boiled sweets, a bag of crisps and a Scottish crumpet. And that's after having eggy bread for breakfast. No idea what is going on, but I'll keep an eye on it.

They start delivering at 5:00 am normally, but owing to the lack of stock because of the major around the Gympie area, they started earlier. As I was on the same route as several other customers they sent me the text to save double handling by driving back again later

I had ticked the box on the online order form that it could be left unattended, so it was not a problem.

It's not to bad as liquorice goes, but I have eaten better and will not be getting it gainm the citrus fruit lollies taste the lemon one s have a nice bit of taste to them when I sampled one.
 
Morning all.

Late up this morning. Actually, I did get up about 4 am but after a couple of cups of tea, I went back to bed for about 31/2 hours. Still feeling a bit sleepy from that. After all I said about having loads of energy too. Well, I did have for a couple of days. Now it's heading back to previous levels. I will have some bacon, when I get around to it and that will be breakfast. And today I will try to make either a sausage/veg casserole, or just a tray bake. Dozing off again as I type this so I'd better move around a bit to see if I can wake up.

Never look a gift horse......I'd be celebrating those BGs.
 
BG stayed down until bedtime and was still only 5.9 by 4 am. Up to 8.9 by 8.30 but down again after breakfast (currently 4.3). I wish I knew what I was doing right. But I'll enjoy it while it lasts.
 
@Tori71 note that @maglil55 was going to reply to supplements query here so thought I would too.
Turmeric has so much conflicting info some say you should get the ones with things like pepper added to increase absorption I did try some of these type in an oil - a one months course but no obvious difference. However recently with my gut microbiome research I’ve read that it’s the impact on the gut that matters not the absorption so you should take as is - who knows? But as I read more and more about importance of the microbiome to health in general I’m currently going on the raw turmeric route! I’ve bought turmeric root and am using as much as possible- including grating the root into salads and putting slices into my clove tea -the root is also less staining than the powder! I also use a lot of powder on things like cauliflower rice - it looks like pilau rice and to marinate chicken for Indian chicken etc.
Hope some others have advice - I like the taste of the root so am going down the culinary path.
 
@Tori71 - I don't take it myself, but I know a fair bit about it. The active ingredient is Cucumin. I first came across it when I read about a wonderful lady (from the Netherlands originally) put her Myloma into remission with a daily high dose. My brother also had myloma (it's an incurable blood cancer) and he took it when the traditional options stopped working. It's an anti inflammatory and I often wondered if it would be beneficial for diabetes. I would love to say it "cured" my brother, but what it did do is lessen considerably the side effects until his last couple of days.
There are a number of reports of its anti-inflammatory effects. I got my brother's supply from the USA (iHerb) as he needed high dosage. The lady I was mentioning above was the subject of a report in the BMJ around 2017 (she'd been in remission for 5 years then).

It does work as an anti-inflammatory but watch which one you buy if you go for it as some have a negligible curcumin content. Also watch to make sure there is no interaction with any other medication you take.

Thanks so much for this @shelley262 , I would love to use the fresh turmeric but alas I'm not keen on the taste (typical and one of the very few foods I dislike)! I'm really interested on the gut microbiome too so can see the benefits. I read in one of Tim Spectors books which said that we should all aim to eat 200 varieties of food a week for a healthy gut! Hmm, just not turmeric for me;)

Looks like it’s the capsules for you agree with @maglil55 that you do need to look at breakdown and I’d go for one with good quality cucumin and no added stuff.at least you shouldnt taste it in capsule form!

thanks for taking the time to reply @maglil55 , I'm glad your brothers side effects were eased with the turmeric. Also, I never thought of interaction so thanks for highlighting that. The search goes on.....
 
I’ve been awol from the forum for a while. My mum (91) was rushed to hospital a couple of weeks ago, and long story short she passed away with sepsis on Monday :(
I have kept my diet low carb, so blood sugars fairly stable however I have overdone the cream and chocolate comfort eating, so I’m keeping my distance from the bathroom scales for now!

@Rachox so sorry to hear that. Mine was 97 when she went and it was still a shock and a loss, as will yours be. Hugs, and choclate and cream are prescribed at times like these. Human first, diabetic second

So sorry to hear of your loss @Rachox. It must have been a harrowing time for you. Never mind the comfort eating for now - even if it isn't the best thing physically, it is certainly the best thing emotionally and that is your need right now. Do take care of yourself.
 
Em had a sleepover last night. She got to sleep about midnight and is still asleep now (9.30). She must have been tired. Even I slept longer than usual - midnight (approx) until 5.15 am. Still feeling a bit dozy and today and yesterday my eyes are ridiculously sore - no idea why but it happens from time to time. Should go to the pharmacy and see if they have anything for it but I don't suppose I will.

I was supposed to be joining in a Zoom meeting pretty well all day today, but I think Em will be here until her mum comes back from work about 1 pm, so I don't suppose I will do that either. Neil was working in the garden yesterday, so maybe if he does more of that, Em can go out and help him. Weather is good enough for it anyway.
