"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Not in Ullapool itself perhaps @Annb, but the surrounding scenery is magnificent and has plenty to occupy wildlife enthusiasts and geologists. Perhaps they did not have the right gear with them for a walk.
No. They only had their normal travelling clothes and only enough of that for an overnight stay. Fit for wandering around streets but not for hiking in the countryside. It would have been so much easier if they'd been in a petrol vehicle rather than electric; or even a hybrid. The network of electric recharging points is so unreliable at the moment.

Outside the rut, they run in bachelor herds and females-with-young groups, apart from the old stags, which tend to be solitary or team up with one other male. Round about now, the stags start establishing territories, then as the females come into oestrus, the stags fight constantly between themselves to maintain those territories. They lose a lot of weight built up over the summer as they barely eat or sleep. By the end of the rut, they are very lean and exhausted. This applies to fallow deer too, but not roe, which don't herd but stay in family groups.

Apologies for offtopic but thought some of us might find it interesting.
Dont apologise, it was interesting.

@Antje77 your adventures look like fun and our UK weather looks more promising for next few days So hopefully you'll stay dry - except when doing your adventurous swims of course!
Husband still healing after his operation and praying no phone calls from hospital 're more treatment over next few weeks. Distraction planned for a few days with a plan to pick up our granddog Cooper tomorrow - while youngest son and wife go away for a few days for a gig and stay in Leeds. So pleased good weather for me to take him out for a few long forest walks.

B: full fat greek with 8 blackberries and milled flaxseed.

Picked all the remaining green tomatoes - over 2kg!. Trying a couple different recipes. 1 @shelley262 is for fermented, the other a quick pickle with only 30g sugar in a kilo of finished product. Will let you know in a week for the first, 4 months for the second.

L: sitting outside in the sun, was cheeses with a few strips of roasted peppers. Coffee icecream and a nut bar.

More gardening. How come the weeds are still growing when the produce has stopped?

D: chicken leg served with buttered fried courgette and cabbage. And a few curried green tomatoes. Easy and tasted good but they were very unripe so just waiting to see if there's any gastrointestinal effects before recommending!
Later a small Scotch

Breakfast: a cold sausage, cooked yesterday and then some cheddar on lc crackers. Had to go to the Health Centre for my weekly leg bandaging ritual but by the time I got there I was feeling nauseous. Even though I might not make it home again without matters getting worse. I did though, and just collapsed into the chair and fell asleep. Felt well enough when I woke an hour later to have a cup of tea.

2nd meal was some spiced chicken breast with a kind of Greek salad. Couldn't eat the chicken, so just had the salad. A bit low on the fluids today.

My cold has almost gone, but I imagine that is still what is making me feel under the weather.

Our old banger has broken down irretrievably aged 22 @Annb (I dare say spare parts will be valuable to somebody) and we've been looking at electric cars and hybrids.

The network of recharging points is more comprehensive here in London, but there's still lots to weigh up. Second hand EVs don't seem to hold their value like petrol vehicles for one.

Cooper must absolutely revel in his adventures with you @shelley262.
Does he actually want to go home afterwards?

You all scare me with your car stories.
I'm travelling the UK with a 23 year old and rather electronically confused car at the moment.
To start, you have to turn the key halfway and turn on the ceiling light before starting or it won't work.
In wet weather it often does nothing at all untill after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, sometimes a couple of times.
Not a problem, but every time this happens I'm scared that now was the last time and I'll be stuck with a broken car filled to the brim with camping gear in a foreign country.

Oh well, it adds to the adventure I guess! :hilarious:

And for everyone wondering what was in my post on the main thread before it was edited, It was a reminder to the meet up at Keto Bite UK in Frinton on sunday 13 October. :)

Anyone care to join us? I'd love to meet more of you! https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/13-oct-24-lunch-and-meet-up-in-frinton.205126/post-2728525

That may be because the batteries don't have a very long life and are very expensive to replace. The electric car is useful on the Island because the council have invested in a reasonable number of recharging points. I haven't heard that any of them have broken down yet. In any case - with the car charged at home, there is no distance too far to travel on the Island to get there and back on one charge. On the mainland, I wouldn't be so sure. In fact, I've heard one or two stories about unfortunate or stressful travel in the Highlands. Until the problems get sorted out, a hybrid vehicle would be better - as far as I can see, they are very expensive.

Our Scenic is a 2005 reg so that makes it 19 years old. It's due an MOT next month. I've asked Neil to take it into a garage to get it serviced this month so we know of any problems that are arising. Keeping my fingers crossed that there's not much wrong.

Breakfast was the remainder of the spicy chicken made into a pate with some cream on a couple of low carb crackers.

A bit out of sinc this morning. I went to bed at 01.00 but couldn't sleep and gave up at 02.20. Came through to the kitchen, had a cup of tea and tried to settle there. I had a light on and at 04.30 I switched on the TV for the News and then found a "Salvage Hunters" programme. At 05.20 the power went off. So no TV, no PC and no light. Just as well I didn't have the footrest up on the big chair or I'd have been trapped. As it was, I had just made my way to where I keep a torch, when Neil came along with his big torch and got the lantern down which we keep in the kitchen. It hangs from a hook on the ceiling where I can't reach it. Not much of a light, but something at least. I think I dozed off around 06.00 and was wakened when the power came back on at 07.30. Been struggling to shake off the sleepiness since then.

2nd meal today will be fish. I asked Neil to get haddock for me and he said what he got was, he thinks, smoked but not dyed yellow. We shall see but whatever, that will be my 2nd meal today.

My car, Betsy, (all my cars have been called Betsy) is a 54reg thus 20 years old. She passed her MOT in August but cost £106 to get there. But money well spent because she is reliable and my route to freedom. I passed my test when I was 50 so I've been free for 36 years! @Annb, the old ones are the best. Take us for example lol x
Oh wow. I had a Betsy, too. Not that I named it, that was our son. Had that car from new, and cherished it for 10 years. Our kids learned to drive in that car. Son took it when he passed his test, as he needed it for his work. He named it Betsy. The engine died a few months after he took the car as his own. Not sure why, but therevwill never be another car like that one for me. Good to see Betsys live on elsewhere.

B: full fat greek with blackberries and seeds
L: in a pub, a rather nice cesar (spl?) salad, loads of chicken and a thick dressing. A glass of wine and soda. Best if all was catching up with my favourite cousin :p
Then onto our destination for a packed dancing weekend.
2 glasses wine and soda but between 17:30 and 20:30.
Dinner was egg mayonnaise then a ham salad and cheese.
Too much but we'd had to preorder and the cheese course cost me £4 extra so it's wrapped up and in my handbag.
Then 3 and half hours dancing.
I'm tired!!!

Yes, money well spent @RosemaryJackson.

Afternoon all, hope all doing well. Where has the week gone. Off to a 60th birthday for my BIL tonight. We bought him a voucher for a local cheese shop,so whilst we were there treated ourselves to their October selection box. There is a strong Colston Bassett stilton which hubby will love, me not so much, I keep wondering what the smell is when I open the fridge, I usually only let him have Stilton at Christmas :p Have a good weekend, hope there is lovely Autumn sunshine where you are.

Ended up eating the Brie at midnight, in bed!

Today had bacon, 1 sausage (but tasted of fillers) 1 fried egg from the breakfast buffet them some nice looking but suspected low fat yoghurt with 1 prune. Then the last of lasts nights cheese.

Then over 3 hours of dancing but some was learning so not exactly vigorous.

L: was a shared platter with hubby. Mostly salmon mousse with some fried calamari and olives. Drank a "golden latte" ingredients on the menu said coconut, turmeric, ginger pepper and agave. I asked if the agave could be left out but apparently its already prepared. Served warm it tasted lovely, but I later discovered it had 272 calories so must have been packed with sugar!
Reminding myself to try a homemade version again soon.

Midafternoon a bit of an ice cream... in the beach in the sunshine! Quite a bit of walking.

D: prawn cocktail, pork chop, ice cream. 2 white wines and soda.

Another 3 + hours dancing. Getting exhausted. Lying here in bed typing this and feeling very hungry.
