Skipped breakfast
Errands
L: omelette with ham, leeks and cheese. 1 hm lc brownie
Helping at senior club. After all my baking they had more than enough so my cake came home with me and is now in the freezer.
D: 5 guys burger in lettuce wrap.
Cinema. Watched Conclave, New award winner. Very good. Wasn't sure I'd like it but I did and highly recommend it.

Although my new duvet sleeps as if I'm in a cloud, I haven't had enough sleep for days, mainly because I'm so stupid to just not go to bed, especially if I'm tired.
I have a busy few days ahead so I'll try to do better today!

Despite my lack of sleep making me not want to do anything, I still went to the swimming pool for aqua jogging, which was great fun, but I skipped my open water swim before, too early.
I also made a shopping list for my (early) birthday party on friday. Let's hope for good weather, the plan is a barbecue and a fire in the mud pool that is supposed to be my garden. Lots of booze on the shopping list, this should help with ignoring the mud and possible rain.
And I cooked a decent meal and made enough to see me through the next 3 days: sauerkraut mash (cauliflower) with pork belly and Dutch smoked sausage. Forgot to take a picture but there must be at least 15 pics of a similar meal on here already, it being one of my go to meals. :hilarious:

I'll have my yearly diabetes appointments tomorrow, diabetes nurse at 10:30, endo at 11:20, and I want to have a quick swim before. I skipped a couple of days and the swimming makes me feel quite happy with myself, a good mindset for those appointments. I have nothing to fear but it still makes me nervous.

Buying food and drinks for the small party on my way back, and then some cleaning.
I'll have an interesting first date on thursday. We'll meet at noon at my swimming spot, and he plans to go in as well. So he's either an idiot or very cool, or maybe both. Both sounds good to me, I can relate.
But it will be a weird date, all the wrong way around!
Because we'll meet at the swimming spot, the date will start out naked, followed by both of us quickly putting on many layers of clothes and doing the coffee thing with small talk afterwards. :hilarious:

No matter if we like eachother or not, an interesting adventure will be had!

Late to bed trying to follow through another interesting family line, so late up at just after 05.30. Still tired and having trouble keeping my eyes open all morning.

Breakfast: vegetable soup - just needed heating up, so it was the easiest option.

2nd meal is going to have to be something with the poached chicken - perhaps another soupy kind of thing, maybe ramen style. I'm feeling the need for fluids just now for some reason - probably a threatening cold. BG is high so maybe that's it.

Had so many drinks today and already a big bowl of soup, I should be feeling the fluids sloshing around in my stomach. Nevertheless, I have a pot of vegetable broth on the go and will have it poured over some thinly sliced, precooked chicken. Still feeling dehydrated at the moment, despite all the drinks.

Woke early and hungry so had small breakfast of ff greek, blackberries and milled seeds.

Did an online yoga class, and did feel a bit sick part way through. I should have resisted the urge to have breakfast :banghead:

Pub lunch: sea bass on Mediterranean veg, cheeses, glass white wine and soda. Asked for the cheeses to come without crackers or fruit, hoping for price reduction but no luck. However the portion was very generous so half came home in my bag.

Just "bits" in the evening, walnuts, piece of cheese, 1 biscuit at a meeting, a very small pear

How did your diabetes check go @Antje77?

Thanks for reminding me, I was going to tell but forgot!
I also remembered to take a picture of my LC zuurkoolstamppot today and forgot to post, so let's start with that. Tasted just as good as yesterday. :)

Turned out I had the appointment with the endo before the diabetes nurse instead of the other way around, which was a good thing. Endo trumps nurse so it was easy to not get wound up by nurse, I already had the official opinion after all so nurse was just to please them and tickle my feet.

First part of the check was absolutely fantastic! (Endo) Second half was absolutely ridiculous. (Diabetes nurse)
Prequel was good for my mood too: BP was something ridiculous like 147/95 or so, but it always is in hospital so that's fine, I did some home checks a week ago which were much better so I shrugged it off. But weight has gone from 107 kilos to 97 over the past year! :joyful: From memory, I started at 118 at diagnosis 8 years ago so that's 20 kilos lost despite high doses of insulin.

First thing endo said was how delighted she was with my numbers (all of them). And then she apologised for having to ask about hypos because of my 29 hba1c. So I told her I'm feeling them at slightly lower numbers now but she was still completely happy with me catching them in the mid/low 3's and didn't advise me to aim for higher numbers.
She didn't even mention BP or ask for my home numbers, she knows I have white coat.
She was prepared to explain why the labs on protein in my urine being slightly raised were no reason to worry so I quickly explained why I didn't think they were anything to worry about. She immediately accepted I understood from my own research, she's one of those doctors who don't have an issue believing patients may actually understand what they read.

We had time left because there was nothing important to discuss so I brought up the remarkable pattern of nighttime lows every night I shared a bed with my neighbour (or Steve, to a lesser extent). Thread here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/th...ery-time-i-share-a-bed-with-my-friend.203428/
She giggly asked if exercise could be playing a significant part, I said no and shared the conclusions of the forum. She fully agreed that it was likely high oxytocin and low cortisol, and I think it's amazing that a forum of lay people can reach the same conclusion as an endo on such a niche subject. :)

The diabetes nurse was a new one, and the first one in my over 8 years diabetes career who thought she could tell me what to eat.
She insisted on at least 100-150 grams of carbs a day and repeatedly told me I really was allowed to eat fruit.
I asked her for any studies showing people need that much carbs because I'd like to read them, which was laughed away.
I also told her that of course I'm allowed to eat fruit, I'm too old for a mum to tell me what I'm allowed to eat. But why would I want to if it shoots me up to 13 no matter the timing of my insulin and if a bell pepper has all the good things an apple or an orange has without the high BG.
She kept insisting on fruit without explaining why.

She also warned me of eating less than 100-150 grams carbs because it 'could cause you to burn fats, releasing fatty acids in your bloodstream which could make you feel very ill'. I said that ketosis is not the same as ketoacidosis, which again was met with silence.
I mean, if you want to warn me for DKA, a deadly condition, do so and tell me when I should head to hospital. I know she was wrong, but if she believed she was right she should have warned me and should have given me a set of rules to follow depending on symptoms, and possibly have offered to prescribe me ketone sticks, right?

Which brought us to the ridiculous situation of a HCP being very relieved I drink two high alcohol and high carb beers (30 grams for two) almost every night). I suppose she now believes this is the thing saving me from DKA. :hilarious:
I felt a bit sorry for her worries so I told her I had a portion of chips and a carby snack in the swimming pool during the Christmas holidays.
This also seemed to ease her worries. Telling her my last meal was zuurkoolstamppot, sauerkraut and cauliflower with fatty proteins, followed by chicory leaves with hummus in bed seemed to make her worry more.

So I suppose I'm the only person with a HCP happier to have me drink too much and eat deep fried snacks than a plate full of veggies.
Can't make it up, can you!
Almost perfect numbers and a happy diabetic were staring her right in the face, and instead of wanting to learn she wanted to tell me I was doing it wrong.
Why?

So a very good thing I had the endo first. She's the boss and she's happy with everything I do, it was easy to let whatever the nurse said slide off.
The funny thing is that I called my best friend after. She doesn't even have diabetes but she was way more shocked and indignant than I was by everything she said, and even proposed I send my endo a letter to tell her to educate her diabetes nurses!

Breakfast was some of the vegetable broth from yesterday.

Hungry when I came back from my legs appointment so I had 3 slices of cold chicken and a couple of thin slices of Caboc cheese. I actually managed to walk into the delicatessen because Neil managed to park right outside the door and that's where I found the Caboc - haven't been able to get it for years. It was a bit of a let-down though because they had very little stock. Neil did manage to get me a selection of Italian products in the supermarket with salamis and some provalone. The cheese was what I was looking for. I looked for it online and Amazon had it at something like £4 for 100g which I thought was not too bad but then I saw the delivery cost £19.37! So decided not to bother. I was hoping the delicatessen would have some, but no luck.

On the way home, I had to walk again to get into the pharmacy looking for ointment for my sore eyes but they aren't allowed to sell any. To get it, I have to get a doctor to prescribe it. The ointment is for my eyelids, not actually my eyes because the lids are itchy, sore and make my eyes water - darned nuisance. Keep going with the eyepads and cold water meantime.

That's enough walking for today and maybe for a few days. We'll see. Right now it's paracetamol for me and a long rest.

2nd meal will be more of the broth with pre-cooked chicken.

@Antje77, I have just read your post and unless anyone knew you are Dutch, they would never be able to tell from your posts. Your English is impeccable! Your grammar is so good too. It's better than a lot of English people. I'm going to do a LivingLightly on you now; paid not payed. (in the Indonesian food post). :)

The last of the soup for breakfast. Not sure what the rest of the day will hold. I'm tired already but have agreed to go to a friend's house for a little celebration and will take something with me to share, which I know I can eat. It is chickpea pasta with a tomatillo sauce. The sauce is cooked and waiting to be blitzed when it cools a little. I'll be putting the pasta on soon.

Thank you!
I love irregular verbs and I think I get most of them right by now so this one must have slipped through. The stupid thing is that I'm not sure if I always write payed or if it was a one off mistake. :hilarious:

I'm having my birthday party tonight (birthday is on the 6th so a bit early)!
Fire, barbecue and booze in the very muddy garden with a couple of friends and neighbours.
The new neighbours have finally arrived today so I went to say hello. Looks like we hit the jackpot, two very friendly and enthousiastic women, about my age. They love the turkeys and ducks (which are using their garden as well as ours) so now they're invited to a party right on the first day in their new home!

As for food tonight, we'll see. Meat, filled mushrooms, olives, cheese, liverwurst, all low carb.
But I also bought crisps, baguette, potato salad for the guests. Some of that will likely be eaten by me. And my friend makes a birthday cake, which of course will have to be tasted!

We had new neighbours today, well just around the corner. Being terribly British we might start nodding acquaintance in about 5 years, hellos in 10 and speaking terms in 20...
Think I'd like to be Dutch :)

10:30 breakfast of eggs with roasted peppers and leeks and ham and a little cheese. Then a nut bar.

Errands

Then managed to persuade "set in his ways hubby" to pop in to the closing night of our local brewery (owned by our friends). "For one" hubby said. ....was a good night so 3 drinks later we fell home ;). I'd nibbled on cheese and nuts, he'd had a couple of sausages in bread.
Maybe I can be a little Dutch and impulsive and spontaneous after all.

Trouble was alcohol loosens my resolve so had a large Bailey's when home. Am wearing libre. Was quite a rise. It stops here.

Well I paid for my alcohol overindulgence with a hangover today.
Did make it to early yoga which included having to scrape the car of ice brr!

11:00 2 slices livlife with marmite and butter

Feeling grotty so sleep in a chair.

D: hubby cooked. Meatballs in tomato sauce, spaghetti for him and dessert. Piece of brie for me.

Staying away from alcohol today.

What's everyone up to on this Saturday night?

Nursing my hangover after a wonderful party yesterday! :hilarious:

Todays evening meal (which coincidentally was my breakfast too, having gotten out of bed after 1 pm) was easy. There was a pack of spareribs left so I chucked them in the oven and called it a meal.

I did go for a cold swim though, and I cleaned up some of the mess in the garden before deciding that tomorrow will be early enough to get rid of the rest of the evidence of a good party.

Not sure it always goes like this in the Netherlands, but the new neighbours really fit in very well here!
Teetotal at the moment, and they've adopted a raw vegan diet recently but aren't at all preachy about it and still asked to taste some turkey next time neighbour Tale kills one.
Very witty and sweet, and very happy with the welcome they got!

I didn't go to the celebration on Friday after all - too shattered after Thursday so I had the chickpea pasta with tomatillo sauce for my 2nd meal. Lots left for both myself and Neil of the pasta and lots of the sauce left as well. Haven't put it in the freezer yet, but I will.

Not feeling great today either. That's after overdoing it on Thursday, still slowing me dow

Today I have had some of the lentil crackers with some Tartex for breakfast.

2nd meal will be some vegetable soup - the veg were all chopped during the week so it will be a simple matter to make a soup with them.

Sounds like a great time was had by all, Antje. Glad to hear it. The ribs look fantastic too.

Morning all. Did anyone notice the 'deliberate' mistake yesterday on the 'what have you eaten low carn thread' ?I woke up thinking it was monday!! Put my bin out for collection; had a shower; washed my hair and set it. My friend came round and asked what I was doing for lunch. I just looked at her and said, It's Monday, pensioners club lunch. She had a good laugh and said No it's not, it's Sunday! I would have gone and fetched the old gent I take to lunch if she hadnt come round. Anyway, we had a good laugh and a cup of coffee and later went out to lunch. At least it took my mind off the fact that it's 4 years this week since my beautiful daughter died. And... I know it is Monday today!!

Cheese melted onto RyVita for breakfast. Probably too much cheese - I felt very queasy afterwards.

Still quite a lot of veg broth left so will do something with that for a 2nd meal - maybe add a few lentils, or peas for a bit of protein but it seems that too much animal protein may also be affecting my kidneys - this seems to be the new "concern", if the doctors can be said to have any sense of concern at all.

No idea what my Hba1c is - far too high, I imagine BG has been all over the place recently - anything between 3.3 and 16.5. No idea when I will get to see the diabetes nurse. Can't actually remember when I saw her and she said she'd see me again in 3 months, but it was towards the end of November, I think.
