What kind of outside job would you like? I remember you said your arm hurt. Which jobs are suitable for you in terms of qualifications? You've worked with tourists for many years, but do you want to look in this area?
The climate here is such that I don't think I'd want to spend 8 hours a day outside for the next six months :hilarious:
 
Nothing until after going to town to have my legs bandaged. So breakfast was some Jacob's crispbreads with cheese at about 13.15. That and some tea.

2nd meal will be some roasted pumpkin with some steak slice (sausage).

Our young friend failed his driving test this morning. Neil went in to give him a last hour's practice and took him down to the test centre, then waited until he came back. Just as well - he needed someone with him to drive home. He didn't fail on driving skills. He failed because a warning light for the air bag came on. There may or may not be anything wrong with the air bag, sometimes these lights come on because some dampness has got into the works but the examiner said the car wasn't in good order and so failed him. That was so cruel but I suppose, if that is the rule, that is the rule (not that I knew that was a rule). It means the lad won't get the promised job - the employer needs someone who can drive now, not at some time in the future when he gets to resit the test.
 
Breakfast was carby. I made a slow cooker full of bolognaise yesterday as I needed to use up the tomatoes I grew and have ripened on the windowsill. It's very tasty, and that is for tea for a few days now. I'm having it with a very small portion of resistant starch rice or pasta and some greens (red Russian kale).

I'm making some progress with jobs in the house, clearing out clutter and organising things that are just in heaps all over the place.

I discovered my shower has been leaking into the kitchen ceiling :eek: - it's fine now with a temporary fix but I'll have to get it properly sorted out eventually. I also need to replace some ancient pipework in the kitchen, and change the outside tap which is also very old and leaking. Oh and fix or replace a slightly corroded radiator in the bathroom too. So when I've got the house into a state where I'm willing to let a stranger see it, I'll book a plumber! It might be a few weeks though.

Oh no I'm so sorry for your friend, what a stupid thing to fail on. What a knockback for him - let's hope there is something even better in his future when he's passed his test.

I haven't harvested my two Japanese pumpkins yet, it won't be long though. I have to test them before using them, for bitterness, as I'm not confident the seed was uncompromised - one is green and the other is orange. I know both of those colours exist in Japanese pumpkins but I would expect the seed to produce fruits all the same. Different colours could indicate that they were cross pollinated and there is a danger that the fruit may have toxins if crossed with the wrong type of cucurbit. If they're not bitter, I understand they're safe to eat, so we'll see!
 
Breakfast: 4 small Jacob's mixed seed crispbreads (very thin, very light) and some cheddar. Tea. That was about 13.00. Still in the process of clearing up after yesterday's baking efforts. Very sore and stiff so don't feel like cooking at all this evening.

2nd meal will be something out of the freezer - no idea yet what it will be but I have to get back to emptying the freezer. I have just taken out a piece of lamb shoulder to defrost and make a lamb tagine tomorrow, but it's too late for today so it's pot luck.

EDIT: The package reads "pork with cabbage", so that's my 2nd meal today. It's defrosting still but should be OK to eat shortly.

Still clearing up, bit by bit, after Thursday's efforts. Trouble is, cleaning one planned item, tends to lead to cleaning more when you notice that they need it. Unplanned items in the big sink, soaking in hot soapy water at present, so there's a bit more of a mess (MIL used to say something like "bouroch" and that would be an appropriate word, but I don't know how to spell it) than there should be. Never mind, it will get done.

ANOTHER EDIT: I looked it up and the word is "Boorach" - a thorough mess.

The boorach is a bit improved but not completely cleared up and I've been working on making main meals with some lamb and some pork mince that had to be used. Had to clean the "equipment cupboard" because it is the place where the food mixers live, and are used and I managed to get flour and sugar over the whole area while making the cakes and cookies. That meant taking the mixers/processors out, cleaning them and then cleaning the shelf. Plenty of elbow grease required. I had to do that before I could put the bowls and tools away and clear the dish drying rack. However, I am getting there.

Breakfast was some slices of watermelon about 1 pm. There were a couple of cups of tea before that.

I must have more drinks because I've been neglecting fluids recently and am becoming a bit dehydrated.

What shall I eat for my main meal today? Something with the pork mince I've been cooking, I suppose. Not sure what to add to it though.
 
I made it pork with mushrooms. There are still some mushrooms left and quite a lot of the minced pork as well. Can I make a breakfast with some of that, I wonder. Probably not before I go out - leaving at 08.30 for Stornoway to get Flu and Covid jabs. On my 2nd cup of tea and I should take some of my pills before I go, so I'd better get on.

EDIT: Back now with instructions to take paracetamol if I feel fluey. I'll be taking my usual painkillers anyway, so shouldn't notice any difference. I'll make some breakfast now - a kind of Fu Yung with mushrooms and pork.

2nd meal is already made - lamb tagine.

I've been a bit meh the last few days, and not eating right a lot of the time but enjoyed some lettuce from the garden with chicken liver pate and a bagel for breakfast today. Tea will be bolognaise (I froze some portions) with a small portion of resistant starch rice and runner beans from the freezer.

I need to get using some more carrots and swedes, but I'm out again tomorrow with a friend so I'll have a go at roasting some for the freezer on Weds. Hopefully. We could do with a bit of sun here to get me going!

There's still quite a lot of the tagine left, but I think I'll freeze it and have some salmon and salad for my 2nd meal today.

I think someone was trying to scam me this morning at 7.30, It was a female with an accent from the Indian sub-continent which I couldn't understand - partly my hearing, partly she spoke too quickly for my brain to compute and partly a tinny sound on the line. I think she wanted me to do something with the internet connection via my laptop or mobile but since I couldn't understand, I couldn't have done anything anyway. She threatened to block our internet connection because I wasn't listening to her so I told her to phone back later when someone would be able to understand. If it was a genuine BT call, I guess that's what will happen and Neil will be up and about then, if it was a scam, I don't imagine she will call again. I've got the number she called from so that I can report an attempted scam, if she doesn't call back.

You have to be so very careful. I think safer to assume it’s a scam, give no information, and call the company back on a number you already have for them.
 
Wow fall is really settling in. Very overcast and rainy today, got soaked on my daily walk, although I enjoyed the time with a lovely friend. She was dubious about walking in the rain ( American), but I told we’re not water soluble, let’s go.
Breakfast was hm lc zucchini bread. Used last years frozen zucchini as this years were rather a disaster.
Lunch was leftovers of last nights baked pork tenderloin, raw red and green cabbage and peppers with a yummy hm nutritional yeast based dressing.
Dinner was Greek salad with 1/4 cup of butter beans in sun dried tomato sauce. Actually the beans were a bit bland but couldn’t figure out what to add to jazz them up a bit. Needed something, and when it’s such a small portion especially.

Definitely a scam, no genuine internet provider will be asking you to do anything like that unless you have asked them for help with a problem. Also anything by phone, text or email saying you are going to be blocked, disconnected or must act now to correct a problem with your account... is a scam. You did exactly the right thing, don't do anything they ask you to do and I wouldn't even ask them to call back, I'd simply hang up. You can give BT a quick call to check that everything is ok, and let them know someone tried to scam you.

Today is much brighter here but yes Autumn is definitely in full swing! With the butter beans, depends what they're going with but soy sauce and rice wine vinegar might work, or a couple of dashes of worcestershire sauce?
 
So today I feel like actually working on the house. Somehow, the whole house has turned into the Spare Room of Doom and I've been struggling to know where to start. I've been picking up and dealing with bits and pieces, and throwing out obvious junk one bit at a time, but I still have to do a proper reset.

One of the you tube channels I watch about decluttering suggests doing a reset by "move out, move in" - clearing out a room completely, getting rid of what you're not keeping, decorating if necessary, then moving the stuff you are keeping back in. It's like forcing yourself to do a moving house kind of thing. Sounds like a plan! The best room to start on for that would be the box room so I can reset my storage and organisation. Let's see how far I can get today! Anything would be a win really.

In other news, I'm still not consistently low carb.

I tried that, but the Company is BT and getting through to them, even on their security site, isn't worth the wait. We're at the end of our contract with BT anyway and are going to sign up with some other ISP. I'm leaving it to Neil - it was my idea going with BT 2 years ago and nothing has worked very well since.

Breakfast: The last of the minced pork with tomato and aubergine (roasted yesterday).
2nd meal will be a sausage casserole.

Today is leg bandaging day so will have to get myself organised to go out. Neil will do a bit more shopping for me while I am in the Health Centre where I am hoping to get results from the blood test I had last week.

BG is still yo-yoing - too high and then too low, and then back up to high again.
