No gardening today although did deliver my last three tomato plants to a friend for growing on. Today seemed to whizz past and didn't feel I achieved much - although I did make a fresh low carb Panda Flour seeded loaf. I've been keeping an eye on the news all day and hoping Friday and Saturdays West Midlands rail strikes would be called off as we were due to travel first thing on Friday! We had to make decision to cancel by end of today or we would have lost right to refund on hotel and concert tickets. We have now agreed to rearrange a concert and get together with our friends in a few months - this trip had been booked since last October and much looked forward to. No doubt they'll call it off tomorrow now I've cancelled but I couldn't take the risk.
I've had three slices of low carb seeded toast today - I needed the comfort food I think but thankfully each slice is less than 1 g of carbs - phew! I've got some liver tests tomorrow morning too that I'm currently water only fasting for. Will miss my evening decaffeinated coffee and later my peppermint tea.
hope you guys have had more productive days.

I've learned today that I am to expect a visitor on Friday morning. Lemon drizzle cake in the oven to have something to go with a cup of tea. I'll also make some shortbread, in case she doesn't want cake. I do have biscuits in the larder - individually wrapped chocolate ones which I keep for Em when she comes, but they aren't exactly adult fare (Twix and Penguin).

I'm really sorry you had to postpone your trip  It's so disappointing when you've been looking forward to it for so long. I hope the liver test goes well and the results are good too x

I wasn't very productive today either, it was a bit colder than yesterday and the sun didn't really show, so I pottered around the house instead. Tomorrow is a bit warmer so maybe I'll get more done - then we have a ridiculous heatwave forecast for the whole bank holiday and beyond! Our poor plants are going to be so confused!

I also don't do well in hot weather so goodness knows if I'll be able to get the grass cut before it goes to seed and infests all my containers

I had porridge for breakfast, cottage cheese salad for lunch and I think I might just have some soup for tea, my stomach feels a bit off again. I've also had a random cough and some chills so maybe I'm fighting something off.

Not many people would turn their noses up at lemon drizzle cake or shortbread, so I'm sure she'll be happy. You are such a thoughtful host, especially when you don't eat them yourself!

I agree about the forecast - 30 degrees in May! I was putting fleece on plants only a few days ago. The plants and us won't appreciate the temperature roller coaster. Hope you fight the possible virus and feel better soon and back out in the garden.

Hope Friday is a good day with your treated visitor - you are so thoughtful and hospitable

Breakfast: very quick crackers with Tartex.Coffee. Running late.
2nd meal: planning to make a bean stew with Fava beans and black beans. Fava beans are frozen and need to be used up. Black beans are tinned. No prep, other than some onions, garlic and tomato, and beans are already cooked, so it will be fast food.

Porridge for breakfast, corned beef salad for lunch, and cream cheese lettuce boats with onion greens and a few crackers for tea.

It got pretty warm ouside today, while I was quickly getting the squash trellis and bean supports ready - I did keep going though and feel ok. I'm out tomorrow for a quick lunch, and I think it's going to be hot, so I've moved my brassica seedlings into a shady spot and I'll get them in the ground/containers as soon as I can. It's all go now! It's so "Could be a frost, could be a frost, could be a frost... eeek heatwave!"

Instead of wrapping tomato plants in fleece I've been watering this evening - filling my plant saucers so they can keep drinking as needed as it's getting warmer. Much prefer watering to frost protection.
My runner beans are definitely running up their canes atm you can almost watch them climb. Strike still happening no trains locally next two days so good job cancelled our trip in time to get refunded! Liver tests happened earlier but no results probably until after bank holiday.

I love watering, now I'm retired - I used to find it such a chore and couldn't keep up when I was working. Now though, I love visiting every plant in my garden and checking on them.

My runner beans are mile-a-minute too, I only put them in the ground the other day and they've grown several inches already!

Good luck for the test results x

Fruit salad with yoghurt for breakfast, which I will get around to shortly. Just on my 2nd cup of coffee. The first one was at 02.30 and I've had a sleep since then.

I used a different recipe for shortbread and it was nothing like shortbread as I know it. It will do as the base for a strawberry shortcake though, so will make up a couple of those to go with the lemon drizzle cake for my guests today.

2nd meal will be more of yesterday's bean stew.

EDIT: my proposed visitor is feeling ill today, so won't be coming. Found that out just as I finished putting strawberries and cream on the strawberry shortcakes. Ah well. Maybe Em will come today and take them home with her.

@Annb sorry your visitor had to cancel at the last minute - especially as you'd added the strawberries and cream so no freezing possible.
Despite me checking the NHS app regularly today no test results in so will clearly be after the Bank Holiday now.
No gardening today and think will be limited to a bit early and late over next very hot days - good for drying washing out there though! We care for our oldest son who has many health challenges and his bedding which I washed at lunchtime was bone dry by mid afternoon!
I've got an online food delivery due tomorrow and have ordered for first time in ages some sugar free jelly I really fancy some.

@Annb that strawberry shortbread sounds delicious, I hope Em can enjoy it!

Porridge for breakfast, lunch out with a friend at the farm shop (sausage, bacon and eggs) and chicken curry for tea.

It was a bit too hot in the afternoon for me to do much so I just moved my young plants into the shade and watered everything. It's supposed to be slightly cooler tomorrow so I'll hopefully get more done. My best chance is very early, but I'll wait until around 9am to use the lawnmower and garden shredder so I won't disturb the neighbours having a lie in!

I hate to complain about hot weather but it really does stick a spoke in my gardening wheels! I just lose all energy and have to hide indoors!

I wanted to get my young plants all planted out this week but I'm worried they'll get scorched. The squash are really just desperate to go in now, I'll have to see if I can shade them temporarily,

Today I cut the long grass, shredded hazel twigs for the compost and watered everything. Tomorrow I'll plant some things out, first priority is squash, and pot up tomatoes and dwarf french beans into their final pots, then I'll see how much energy is left to plant out some nasturtiums and calendula. I'm nervous about the brassicas, I should probably get those planted before the hottest day as well. I wish the weather had just been a bit more moderate for this week but I should be grateful it's not raining every day!

I'm going to get a really early night and try to get up very early tomorrow to get some gardening in before it gets silly hot. That was the idea for today too but I woke up in the middle of the night and was awake for a couple of hours so didn't get up really early. Luckily today wasn't too hot here.

Curry for my tea too @jpscloud . I had delivery of sugar Free jelly with grocery order this morning so made 6 small puddings - added half a pint of boiling water to the jelly crystals then a handful of frozen berries which I whizzed in blender and as it cooled added about quarter of pint of cream . Cold puds for next few days to serve topped with a fresh berry and cream.

Not too much gardening today I've been trying to rearrange our meet up with friends in July and also lots more washing and drying taking advantage of quick drying weather. I did sow another pot of basil as trying to always have a replacement pot ready plus did same with lettuce seeds. I also roasted some local beetroot in olive oil and when cool peeled and sliced then and added ACV. So it's ready for salads. I'll also doing hm hummus and garlic and pepper salad tomorrow ,
Right off out to water plants and check up on things in garden now it's cooling down
