"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Had to be up early to take car to garage. Ended up being only £111 to mend an exhaust bracket. Phew, thought it might be expensively serious.

Very sensitive to light and noise, maybe migraine coming?

Fasted all morning as wasn't hungry but got very grumpy, almost like pre menstrual but those days are long gone. Did a bit of weeding outside.
Had ham omelette and 2 nut bars for lunch, then a sleep.
Gradually feeling more normal.
Dinner was fish in spinach sauce with courgette, yoghurt with 4 chopped almonds and a sq 90% chopped in.
Small glass red

Away at event this weekend So may not get time to post. Food on offer is usually cheap carbs, but this year apparently dinner each night will be a buffet. Fingers crossed there's salad, meats and cheese.

Listening to various talks on a summit on metabolic psychiatry. Very interesting as more and more people finding low carb/keto/carnivore alleviates symptoms and needs fewer meds across the board of mental illnesses . I know @shelley262 might be interested. Not sure 8f 8t will still be available when she's back https://quitsugarsummit.com/psychiatry

I hope everyone in the path of storm Austen is safe and well - it's the calm before the storm here south of Manchester, but we're due to get some strong winds late afternoon/early evening.

I've just been out and double braced the runner beans which might still give a handful or two if the frosts hold off - the structures I put up this year are much stronger than last year but these winds are going to be quite strong. There's another strong wind event coming on Sunday according to the forecast.

Porridge for breakfast, cottage cheese salad for lunch and savoury mince/squash/runner beans with cauliflower for tea.

I hope the wind doesn't do damage to your garden, or to anything else for that matter. Keep safe all you guys down there.

Up here in the Hebrides, we're built for those strong winds (occasionally it goes wrong, but normally we don't suffer much damage.) In past years, it was different. The people living in the old "black houses" had roofs of turf, held on by weighted ropes. In strong winds, the whole family had to turn out to hang onto the ropes to stop the roof blowing off. In time, they learned to build houses with stronger roofs. People my age remember, as children, having to get out of bed in the night to help hold the roof down.

Isle of Lewis, Black House - probably at Borve, IoL

If this is the house I think it is, people were still living in it in the 1970's.

Wow! Not quite in the same league, but we once had to spend a stormy night in similar fashion holding down the tent on a family camping trip :hilarious:

The winds haven't arrived yet but the rain has, it's bucketing down!

Stormy this afternoon, but otherwise just wet. I gave my new long coat a trial run when I went out for a walk, and it was lovely and waterproof. I have a new jacket to trial, too (half-price on the Cotton Traders website!), but that might have to wait until it is no longer raining. Meanwhile, I sorted through my shoes and put my summer sandals away, and got my winter boots out! And I must go through my coats to give the ones I no longer wear to charity. Eventually, I'll have to go through all my wardrobe and remove the tops I didn't wear all summer - I sorted out the trousers not just so long ago - and tidy up the drawer, and my winter and mid-season tops, too, which are a MESS!

Breakfast was porridge. I remembered to soak the chia seeds, and then thought that if I hadn't put the dried fruit in, I could have made it into flatbreads and had an egg, so best of both worlds! Might try that tomorrow - if I use half the amount (1/8 cup oatmeal, and presumably 1 tsp chia seeds) it should be just the right amount.

For some reason the porridge didn't stick around and I was starving when I got in from my walk, so had a few nuts and raisins, and then I had a large German lebkuche from Lidl. I buy a packet every year, but only ever one - if I finish it (doubtful!), I don't then want any more. I did, however, still want lunch which was cup soup and a slice of crusty wheat and rye bloomer with butter and Bavarian luncheon meat, plus some olives. Followed by a small helping of Lidl's so-called nougat ice-cream (it is more like a really, really lush chocolate ice-cream) with a tiny bit of cream.

Supper will be as Wednesday - sauté potatoes, leberkase, and maybe an egg, plus the end of the bag of salad. Followed, I regret to say, by berry crumble (we will firmly have half a tub each!) from Lidl with a bit of cream. And maybe a bit of avocado with the salad because we meant to have it for lunch, but forgot! And there might or might not be a square of chocolate afterwards - there was last night!

Porridge for breakfast, omelette for lunch and chicken with vegetables for tea.

Today I'm only venturing outside to put bird food out, and have a look at what the wind did yesterday, but it didn't seem as strong as the forecast said - there are some strong winds forecast again for an hour later today.

Breakfast (6.30 am) was puffed spelt grains with some milk. Tea. Tiny amount of insulin (spelt is carb, after all).
BG dropped to the 3's after about 2 hours. Shouldn't have taken the insulin.

Hungry at 11.30 and BG still lower than it really should be, so I had a ham sandwich (1 slice, wholemeal). No insulin. BG took about 2 hours to go high. Still in the 8's (4.15 pm).

Later, I'll have a salad with avocado.

Really, really wet day! My tai chi class was cancelled (it is an outdoor class on Saturdays, and although the instructor has a key to the community centre, it was going to be in use, so we couldn't use it instead), Instead, we spent the morning decluttering various bits, including coats - in the afternoon we got soaked taking the ones we no longer want up to a charity donation box locally, and then went a little further and bought a Too Good To Go salad box when we were at it. We had been going to walk home, but no. Just no! As it was, when we got off the bus, we were nearly blown over waiting to cross the road, and my husband had to change his trousers when we got in as he was so wet! My shoes weren't very waterproof, either - they were, yesterday, but it was harder to avoid the puddles today!

Breakfast was a fried egg on 1/3 slice wheat and rye bloomer, with Boursin, plus a pain aux raisins. Lunch was a bacon and avocado roll, although I only ate about 2/3 roll, followed by French coffee ice cream. Mid-afternoon I had a Lebkuche, and supper is being 1/3 of a Bavarian sausage ring with pasta salad from the Too Good to Go box, followed by 1/2 tub of mixed berry crumble with cream. And maybe a square of chocolate later. All rather carby, but this weather.....

The “what have you eaten today (low carb forum)” seems to have gone quiet so thought I’d join up here instead, plus I need to have a rant! For the last year or so I have developed neuropathy in my feet, balance issues and now intermittent tingling in my right little finger and hand. I saw a neurologist earlier in the year as my GP didn’t understand why as I have such good blood sugar control. The neurologist was lovely and noted that 10 years ago during an MRI for something else the report noted that I have two slipped discs in my neck and that could possibly account for my symptoms! I do have pain in my neck but it’s always been put down to my arthritis, I had no knowledge of the disc problems. Anyway the neurologist ordered a whole spine MRI which took place in July, now 15 weeks down the line I still haven’t had the results! I’m so worried that if something can be done, by the time they get around to it permanent damage might have been caused. There end of rant, thanks for reading x

Hi @Rachox welcome to the chatty side! Would your GP have the results of your scan on record, or could maybe give the specialist a poke to send them?

I'm awake in the middle of the night again, not sure if it's the wind gusts that woke me up (I still have an open chimney in the bedroom) or feeling cold, but now I'm retired I can just go with it and get up, have a cup of plain cocoa (no sugar) and go back to bed when I get sleepy again. I feel very blessed for this luxury now, I remember so many restless nights where lost sleep meant a difficult workday afterwards.

@jpscloud i have talked to my GP and he has promised to forward the results as soon as he gets them. I have also phoned the consultant’s secretary. The hold up seems to be radiology who are “very busy”. So frustrating!

Breakfast: Puffed spelt grains again with another banana. Tea.
2nd meal will be an omelette with shredded vegetables in it. May make half a dozen h/m chips to go with it.
There will probably be some kind of snack around noon or 1 pm. We'll see. Stomach quite sore just now - that's the weight loss pill doing that.

Porridge for breakfast, omelette for lunch and pork chop with vegetables for tea.

Luckily the storm winds were not too bad here. Hope everyone also came through with no damage.

Hi @Rachox and welcome.

How I hate it when the clocks go back and it gets dark so very early! Oh well, only 5 months until they go forward again. I don't get SAD particularly, but I do hate these dark, dreary autumn and winter days when you have to have the light on indoors all day, and it feels as though it never gets light. Mind you, today has been fine, although very windy, but I haven't been out yet - I wasn't preaching this morning, but one of our local churches has an evening Communion service on the last Sunday of every month, so we are planning to go to that in a bit.

Breakfast was "best of both worlds" - an oatmeal and chia flatbred (well, allegedly - I don't quite know what I did wrong, but it didn't want to flip; maybe needed more fat in the pan) with a poached egg, followed by a banana. Lunch was vegetable soup with noodles and my share of what was left of the sausage ring, followed by home-made blackcurrant ice-cream. Supper will be pizza (quick and easy after Church) with salad, followed either by creme caramel or by Greek yoghurt with home-made mixed berry compote. And maybe a square of chocolate, but I did put the end of the chocolate blackcurrants into the ice-cream!

Sunday is my lazy day, binge watching stuff while hubby is at work, stuff that he doesn’t enjoy, currently watching The Good Doctor on Netflix, it’s great if you enjoy medical drama. Tea on Sundays is usually at my ILs, a meat, cheese and salad buffet so easy to stay low carb.

I did have a snack at about 11.30 am - a couple of Jacob's crackers with some Dairylea cheese. Didn't have the omelette though. Left it too late to have before my Sunday one hour phone call to my brother in Swindon and after the call it was too late to eat and leave 8 hours before I take the weight loss pill again about 3 o'clock in the morning.

The wind seems to have died down a bit now and little damage done. The old washing line posts suffered a bit - they were made of creosoted wood and installed about 1976 by my father. Three of the four have fallen down. They did well to stand there all that time. My only worry was the solar panels on the roof. They haven't faced a winter storm so far. But they are still there despite the wind coming from the most potentially damaging direction - north west.

Good morning all - lots to read and catch up here later.
Busy week away and then family to stay this last weekend. All good, although weather has been dramatic and often cold - our house was freezing when we arrived back home late Friday. Needed to have the heating on full whack!
Hotel very good and easily managed to stay low carb with just a few tweaks and requests. This weekend I cooked chicken, sausages and ham for our buffet so back to my normal food. Today lots of leftovers and salads to finish off.
Meanwhile I need to tackle my washing backlog plus the weekend guest bedding and it looks like the weather today is ruling out putting anything on the line outdoors. I couldn't tackle our dirty clothes on our return as didn't want wet clothes hanging around while we had visitors so it's a big mountain!

Porridge for breakfast, cheese, cucumber and crackers for lunch, chicken with beans and leafy greens from the garden for tea.

I'm doing a bit more tidying and organising in the house while the weather is wet. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to fill up the garden bin again ready for collection on Weds.
