"What have you eaten" Parallel Chat

Porridge for breakfast, cheese and salad for lunch and beef brisket (freezer find!) with garden vegetables for tea.

I've been clearing out the last of the uneeded/unwanted/surplus to requirements items from the big walk in storage cupboard, and will do a tip/donation run tomorrow if all goes to plan.
And I've spent a lot of today finishing clearing out my clothes cupboard, which I find I have to do at least once a year, and get rid of the clothes I no longer wear. Also spent time arguing with the Ascend Plus people, who still want me to pause the trial and I can't think why! Granted I've lost a lot of weight, but no faster than is healthy (about 1lb a week) and my blood work was really good, no sign of cancer, and HbAc1 still 40 (!). And according to the scales this morning, I'm almost not overweight any more - my BMI was spot on 25! Ideally I'd like it to be 24, but hey.

Anyway, breakfast was porridge, with etcs; then it wore off (why does porridge wear off when overnight oats don't?) and I had one of my luscious lebkuchen mid-morning, which meant I wasn't very hungry for my lunch of a seeded sourdough sandwich with hummus and German luncheon meat, a little couscous salad, a little ice cream and some nuts and raisins. Which, now I have written it down, sounds rather a lot and may explain why I'm not totally hungry this evening! Supper, when I get round to it, will be the pork belly ragu, probably with rice, followed by yoghurt and compote. And maybe a square of chocolate... maybe.

@Mrs Redboots I'm hoping to sort out my clothes this weekend too - I always do this as the seasons turn as my wardrobe isn't huge so I need to put some into storage.
My day started with getting very cold as I was still in my nightie making a cup of tea when I spotted one of our regular squirrel garden destroyers in a garden pot digging up some parrot tulips I'd only planted recently! He took a lot of scaring off - with an I'll be back look as eventually he gave up digging and retreated.
Didn't get time for baking yesterday so I'm planning on making a couple of low carb loaves today before I start sorting clothes. I'll also get a slow cooker chicken curry started for dinner. Planning a cooked breakfast this morning and probably some cheese for lunch. Hope everyone has a good day.

If you're close to what's regarded as healthy BMI I suppose it'll be a case of not wanting you to continue losing weight as being underweight can be as bad as being overweight, and they wouldn't want to risk causing you harm in that way. Also 40 is considered normal for HbA1c so again they wouldn't want to risk hypos. Being a trial I'm guessing there isn't a maintenance dose to offer you?

I'm so in your corner because the most likely scenario is that when you stop weight will come back on, which is also really harmful and in my opinion should not be acceptable just as your health has improved. They can't just pat you on the head and say well done, off you go and be metabolically "normal" now.

I think it's encouraging that they used the word "pause" though. If you begin to gain weight quickly, I think you have a good case to argue continuing or maybe your GP can prescribe a maintenance programme.

I had porridge for breakfast, it'll be something light for lunch with lettuce and rocket (which is finally growing really well!) then I'm having sausages with some resistant starch mash and brassica leaves (and stems) for tea.

Today is tip/donation run day, and then it's time to start actually organising my stuff! At the moment everything is everywhere and all storage is practically empty. That habit seemed to start when my mum passed away, and I felt overwhelmed by all her stuff. I have decluttered most of it, and there are just a few sentimental things remaining now, but my stuff also didn't get put away so when I've finished getting rid of what I don't need of mine, I'll have the nicer job of deciding what goes where.

The local cats do the same to me, not digging up tulips but trying to catch the sparrows and leaving their delightful poo bombs all over the far end of the garden! When I shoo them they know there's nothing I can do so they just stare back. If I walk towards the hose, they know that's game over so they precisely calculate how long it'll take me to get it and saunter away casting insolent looks back at me as they go!

Edit: This summer I bought loads of cheap "mini greenhouses" from Temu which I repurpose into larger support frames for squash, runner and climbing beans - the leftover wire mesh shelves are fantastic for protecting pots and beds from pigeons etc. It's worth waiting and looking a lot on Temu for the cheapest ones to show up, though - the algorithm likes to mess with you and show higher prices as well.

A question for the creative minds:

A long time ago and way before diabetes when I was very poor (due to spending most of my money on my long beaten heroin addiction), one of my go to meals was noodles with a topping of 'sambal badjak' (Indonesian hot sauce, very flavourful) mashed with an equal amount of butter.
I'd love to eat something like that again, for the flavour, but it's also very cheap and quick, and I'm a lazy cook at times.

Can we think of some vegetable or whatever to make this work?
Cabbage

What about Konjac noodles? Or zucchini?

Last night we went to see my musician son at a gig, no time to eat before, so had a naughty kebab afterwards! I ate plenty of meat and salad with garlic mayo and just a couple of bites of the pitta bread. Today swimming again, swam a little further than last visit. Dinner tonight tuna mayo sandwiches (low carb bread) and coleslaw.

Breakfast was puffed spelt grains with milk and tea.
I did have a couple of crackers and some tea around 11.30.
2nd meal was a slice of a rather large spinach and ricotta pastie. 3/4 of it left for some time tomorrow.

Yesterday evening we went to a disco. Food was a chicken curry but it was loads of potato and very little chicken so ended up with cheese and lc crackers and chocolate at 11pm when catching up with the Traitors.

Today was an avocado for breakfast, then a 3 egg omelette lunch and hm koftas and salad

Managed to make two low carb loaves yesterday afternoon - left them out to cool overnight and will slice and freeze them this morning. Didn't start my clothes sorting though as I got distracted by other stuff - maybe today?
Cooking plans today include using up the leftover egg yolks - the low carb loaves only use egg whites- to make some egg custards. I'm also finishing off some, need to be used up, mushrooms for breakfast and slow cooking a mixed game casserole for dinner.

The trial is really to see whether oral semaglutide stops you having strokes or heart attacks. I'm not really sure why they want me to pause it - I think they think I've lost too much weight too fast, which I actually haven't - it's come of at a very healthy roughly 1lb a week. I think I'll send them a screenshot of the app on my phone!

I totally forgot to post yesterday! Breakfast was a fried egg on a thin slice of seeded sourdough with Boursin; lunch was bacon and avocado in an ancient grain roll, only I left most of the roll, followed by a little honeycomb ice-cream. Supper was sausage and mash, with beans (fortunately the 5-bean kind from Tesco), carrots and sprouts, and for once he didn't burn the sausage or ruin the veg! He likes them the way he cooks them, but I don't. Then we had yoghurt and compote, and I had 2 squares of dark chocolate.

Breakfast has just been an oat and chia seed pancake (I can't help thinking of it as "fried porridge") which had too much water in it so broke up when I tried to flip it, but was still delicious, with the rest of the beans and a poached egg. Not sure what the rest of our meals will be, so I'll post either later or tomorrow.

Oh! I misunderstood, I didn't look up the trial! Very interesting.

Porridge for breakfast, roasted tomatoes from the freezer with feta and salad leaves for lunch with a slice of home made bread, and sausages with resistant starch mash and brassica greens for tea.

Thanks again for all your ideas!
In the end, I used what I had on hand (a celeriac) and it worked out wonderfully well!
Cut very thinly and airfried with a little olive oil and salt. Dumped it on the butter/sambal badjak mix straight from the airfryer and mixed on my plate.
Absolutely delicious, and it did hit all the memory buttons, definitely a new staple to very easily make various veggies interesting!

I think it'd be great with runner beans or green beans as well and very easy for on the bridge too.
That will have to waight until April, sadly, my last day on the bridge for this year was yesterday. The bridges are not standardly operated in winter, you have to call if you want to pass the bridges, and there are only a couple of people working in winter who will follow boats through all the bridges.

I had my faux spaghetti with a piece of pork tenderloin.
A bit overdone, but it was only the second time in my life I made it, and I used only a third of the pork so two more chances to get it right in the next days!
It still tasted good with a little tomato tapenade. :hungry:

So in the end lunch was soup, a thin slice of seeded sourdough bread with butter and cheese, a couple of olives and a cold sausage, followed by a small scoop of banana ice cream with a banana (I asked for half a banana, but he didn't hear!). Whereupon I went to sleep, so our walk through West Norwood cemetery was sadly truncated as it closed before we were half-way round.

Supper has just been salmon served on a bed of stir-fried vegetables and 1/2 cup of Itsu chilli miso noodles. With added spring onions and pomegranate seeds. Followed by a Lidl creme caramel, and a square of dark nut chocolate.

Had such a lovely evening watching 2/3 of the Young Musician of the Year finals and then David Attenborough's Blue Planet 3, and now we are watching the free dance from Kelowna (ISU Grand Prix).

An early walk with a friend was sandwiched between m&s low carb flat bread crackers, the after walk ones had pate on.
Then hubby and I cleared out the garage...more tidied really as there wasn't much to get rid of - most stuff ' might come in useful one day'

Dinner was hm kofta with buttery creamy leeks and green beans. Himself had rice as well
Pud for me was full fat greek yoghurt with chopped almonds and a splash of low sugar ginger cordial

It's been very cold today. Unexpected and unwelcome!

It went down to 2C last night here! I have been very slow with the garlic, elephant garlic and shallots that are waiting to go in - I will do my best to get those in today before the serious frosts set in. They need a good cold winter to form bulbs/cloves, but it still seems counterintuitive to put living plants in the soil at this time of the year! They're going in large containers, the elephant garlic and onions did well in those last year.

Porridge for breakfast, omelette for lunch and more sausages and resistant starch mash with cauliflower (I picked my last one, it's a beauty!) and cauliflower leaves for tea.

I have been a domestic goddess today - I made my own tomato ketchup! I don't like Heinz, but I was watching a video about making one's own, and it is easy and delicious! We are going to have it for supper with sausage patties and a fried egg, on top of (probably) half a garlic and parsley flatbread (I was going to make my own flatbreads - the kind that are just equal quantities of flour and yoghurt, but these ones looked so good in the shop that I decided not to!). I think there will be butternut steaks and another vegetable, probably, but not sure what yet! Oh, and I made a quick pickle, so some of that, too. And yoghurt for pudding, but it might have to have honey or marmalade in it as I haven't made compote yet. I have some plums to stew for the purpose, but they need another day to be ripe enough.

Breakfast was overnight oats with blueberries (why do I like frozen blueberries in overnight oats when I don't much like fresh ones?), banana, yoghurt and the end of the nuts in honey :( I think I might make some more, only I don't have any runny honey just now (soon remedied! I have to go to Lidl again tomorrow as I forgot to buy bin bags). Nuts I do have!

Lunch was a bit of quiche, 1/2 a cold sausage, 3 olives, a cheese-stuffed pepper (Lidl's antipasti range), and the end of the French coffee ice-cream.

The hot water has broken down in our block of flats again, which is a pain - we do still have running water, and, of course, boiling water from our filter tap, but it looks as if tomorrow's shower will be out of a bucket. Sigh!

I bought some high protein, soya based cocoa breakfast cereal to try, so that was breakfast with some milk. It was like trying to eat blotting paper! Most of it went into the bin. Tea.

Ham sandwich for a late breakfast/lunch.

2nd meal was a pre-baked, reheated, chilled potato with butter and cheese and some salad.

Usual Tesco shop for me this morning. Coffee at a garden centre this afternoon, shop was full of Xmas stuff already, I think I’m still in Xmas denial zone! A small piece of hubby’s scone with cream and jam might have passed my lips :bag: Dinner was low carb kedgeree made with cauli rice.2026-11-02 18.58.23.jpeg
