@Brunneria or anyone else...help! I have just been looking again at MFP (not obsessed honest lol) and notice that my carbs yesterday were "total carbs 42g, dietary fiber 12g". Fiber spelled the USA way. Does this mean that I actually had 30g net carbs?
I think the biggest clue is whether the listing is measured in oz/cups or gm - always worth double checking if it's a new addition to your 'repertoire'.

Good thinking. I will avoid using values from brands I have never heard of too in case they are American. I have just noticed there is a button called "my food". Maybe that means you can make your own list. Sorry to be such a noob! :)

I think the idea is that you make a database of your own stuff. I uploaded the app and never got round to playing with it. Let me know if you think it helps. I try and stick to around 1200 cals most days too though I suspect mine is coming mainly from protein as I haven't gone overboard on the fat bit through taste preferences- though it is lovely to liberally douse my salad in a proper homemade french dressing these days.

Breakfast: 2 eggs (yoke discarded), 2 wholegrain Krisprolls, tea with milk & artificial sweetner
BG 2 hrs after 5.6. (4.9 before)

Next 3 bean salad:
Pinto,Kidney & chickpea
Olive oil, ginger, spring onion, fresh parsley, fresh coriander, vine tomatoes, cucumber, red sweet pepper, lime juice, dried chili flakes, 1/4 avocado, 1/4 of a gala apple, 2 grapes, 1/2 drumstick grilled & diced all tossed together.

Portion=230g

BG 2hrs after 4.7

Next meal will be same as above

There is an option, somewhere, to choose which of your nutrients are shown on your food diary page.

Found it. Go to myfitnesspal.com and sign in.
Go to My Home
Click settings

You can then choose to add or remove your priority nutrients I took out sugar (don't need that as well as carbs!), and replaced it with fibre.

It doesn't really change much, but it will make it easier to spot the kind of problem you've just had.

And yes, I've learned to be very careful about selecting the best item from the list of foods. There's no guarantee that the person who made the entry actually bothered to add in the carbs!

In America, the fibre content is included with the carbs much like our sugar is. I think the labels will say "of which fiber"..In the UK the fibre is already deducted before the amounts go on the labels. Does this help?

I am tracking my food on myfitness but I keep going over my calories! I choose my foods to be low carb but I suppose I must be eating too much. Any ideas?

Ive just had another look and I had had 2 m&s 97% pork sausages but calories????!!!! 350. And dressed crab at lunchtime with salad was high too!!

It did. Me and my girls one 22 one 7. The little one was on her own bike and we had Boris Bikes (Liverpool version) great day, sore muscles. We have looked at buying bikes since we got home but I think we may be a bit ahead of ourselves MFP says 700 cals burned.

Thank you everyone for your help with the my fitness pal thingy. I think I have cracked it now. I went back thru yesterday and replaced anything showing fiber with the values (with net carbs) from tesco. I have set my fiber goal as 0 so that I can spot any rogue foods. Anything I enter from now on will be net carbs only. Sorted.

@Bluetit1802 cheers. The problem with the fibre/fiber conundrum on the app is that I can't tell whether a USA or European guy has entered the values... whether they have already deducted fibre or not. The new system should sort it out :)

Breakfast: egg yolks scrambled with cream and Quorn chorizo. (Used yolks only as I needed whites to make bread)

Lunch: husky bread toast and peanut butter (guy had peanut butter on Dragons' Den last night...had to have it)

Dinner: leftover curry celeriac mash, the rest of the spicy tomato sauce on courgette spaghetti

Deb - Unrelated to diabetes, I picked up a bike about a year ago, on eBay. I just wanted something to use to nip to the Post Office, or the village shop, and be cheap enough that I wouldn't have to weep into my Weetabix. Well, it was before my diagnosis. ;)

It came from a family on the other side of the village. Their daughter had outgrown it. It's an adult sized bike, so I dread to think how tall the daughter must be! It's purple and white metalic, and I love it. I paid the princely sum of £20.27, according to my eBay history. What a bargain! I walked there and peddled back.

Maybe you could try eBay or Freecycle for a cheerful bargain?
