@Randburg, this one's for you:

End of third week Diabetes miracle eating - interim report :happy:

Had a few low patches (literally).
I seem to start panicking if my BG drops below 5.3.
Internal alarms go off, I start to feel hollow and nervous. I realise this is nowhere near a hypo, but it is leaving my body's comfort zone, and after years of reactive hypoglycaemia, I take the warning seriously. Usual response is to eat regularly and snaffle a baby bel if it happens unexpectedly.

Anyway, where was I?

It's been going well. Sleeping well. BG consistently under 7 all day, except the odd dawn phenomenon spike (for no apparent reason. I went up to 8 at 11am one morning, after breakfast. Bizarre. No idea why.
No hypos :smug::smug::smug:

All other BG readings in the 5.1-6.9 range, even after eating large and enjoyable meals.

The low carb meals are good. I've been having some berries and cream, bulletproof coffee, low carb cookies and the usual low carb foods regularly, so there is no deprivation.

Weight loss is interesting.
Finally broke down and bought a set of scales (first time in 15 years that I have endured a set in the house)

Ms Kress, the author of the Diabetes Miracle book anticipates up to 22lb loss for a type 2 of my height and weight, during the 8 weeks of phase 1 eating.

I had clamped down to less than 50g carbs in Feb, and was losing a little under a 1/3 of a pound a week for over 6 months. That blew me away. I had given up hope of EVER losing (major hormone shenanigans, including a benign pituitary gland tumour, which makes The Hunger and food cravings quite ridiculous).

So I was trepidacious at starting this eating plan, concerned that my 'issues' would lead to no, or very little, loss. Of course, I bolstered myself with blustering that it would be 'good enough' if I lowered my HbA1c, but the reality was that I was hoping. A bit.

And in the last 3 weeks I have lost 2 lbs.

So I am OVERJOYED :woot::happy::smug::singing::cat::couchpotato:

That is TWICE the weight loss of when I was on 50g carbs. And I've now lost over a stone (14lbs) in total.

It may not sound much to most of you, but it is AWESOME for me (the last consultant who saw me in Feb congratulated me on 'only' putting on 'a few pounds' in the previous year).

But, in truth, the weightloss really is secondary to my BG. And how I feel.
And except for the odd blip, I've been feeling great. Better and better, in fact. More energy. More stamina. Less knee and back pain. Less finger joint pain. No BG mood swings. Brain working well.

3 weeks out of 8 done.

The only fly in the ointment is that I'm staying in a hotel for 3 nights this week. Food may be a challenge... :nailbiting:

That is really encouraging. Really.

Is your hotel sojourn for work or pleasure, and if for work, is there expectation of a social element?

It's a spur of the moment heck, let's-just-burn-through-annual-leave few days away.
The hotel mainly does carvery style full English breakfast grub, and we've discussed various options for the evening, so I should be ok, but whether I will stay under 5g carbs a meal... Well, only time will tell. :nailbiting:

5g per meal? That really is hard core.

Well, it's 5g or less of fast release carbs (like a slice of Livlife, a few strawberries, or a square of 70% choc).
I'm still eating plenty of green veg and not counting those at all. There are masses of 'free' low carb veg suggested in the book.

I'm guessing I'm probably eating 20-30 g total carbs a day, but only 5-10g in the form of berries or choc. All the remainder is masses of greenery.

This evening's meal:

Chicken, sugarsnaps, broccoli, green beans

Then, below, with double cream and Parmesan stirred in

Ah. That makes it a bit more tolerable.

Breakfast. Greek yoghurt and a small handfull of blueberries
L was Brunnerias pizza. Mega yum with loads of cheesy topping and peppers and salami. ( won't lose much weight this week I guess). We preferred it to proper pizza
Don't think there will be much supper going on. Too full :)

same thing yesterday and today.
breakfast eggs and bacon
lunch salad with stuff( ham and egg mayo yesterday, today ham and tuna mayo)
dinner chilli, salad and 1 taco shell- tonight I went mad and had a dessertspoon of brown rice.

We had pizza again.

This time, I did double quantities for the base, and baked them both on both sides. Took a long time, but was definitely worth it.

Mr B ate all of his. I ate 2/3 (rest for breakfast!) and we are both stuffed.

Brekkie was bacon and egg, lunch Brie and scratchings cos I kept bustling round and couldn't be bothered to phaff.

Do you have the pizza recipe? Apologies if I've missed it several times.

B - bacon,egg & mushrooms
L - low carb cauliflower & leek cheese
D - paneer & herb fritters with watercress
S 1 - tuna mayo
S2 - goat yogurt with toasted almonds
Drinks - 2x coffe with cream, 1x tea

Thank you. That looks cheesily yumm-tastic. I might give it a whirl. I rather fancy it with lots of chorizo and jalapenos.................

We had it with marinara, peppers, stir fried beef, pepperoni, onion and GARLIC in the base, in the marinara and sliced on top.

Should be GREAT for breakfast!

You'll have a force field around you.

On an aside, I think I have a yoghurt failure (not) brewing in the kitchen. Surely, I can't have got that wrong......

B = diet whey & 6 raspberry shake
L = toasted Bergen with cheese
D = roasted chicken with tomatoe & cheese salad.
Snacks none so far possibly almonds or Brazil nuts.

So what happened with the yog?

Pizza for breakfast was truly a peak moment.
I haven't done that since college, and to know it is low carb... Well, beyond words actually.

And yes, I think the car has been fuelled entirely by garlic fumes today. Travelling the motorway in our little bubble of garlic atmosphere.

Well, I haven't tasted it (as I still have some shop bought to finish), but it has set nicely. I was obviously too hasty in my assessment.

Was it you who uses UHT milk, when making yoghurt?

I have done. Also goats milk and soya. My search for a diet that works has been very chequered! ;)
If I remember, the UHT tasted creamier, the goats was... um... goatier... And the soya was fab.

Breakfast...coffee. all bran v small portion with greek yoghurt. (Was necessary)
Lunch tuna salad and mayo
Dinner. Taco mince. Sour cream salsa and cheese on top of iceburg lettuce
Mmmmm
Snack v v small handful of cashews
