You are a sweetheart, LL, thanks for asking. My pussycat is napping next to me at the moment. He is a little bag of bones, but is still managing to eat, jump and does not seem to be in any pain. He is 8 years old. From his X-Ray, the vet is 99% sure he has intestinal lymphoma. Without opening him up, they cannot be 100% sure.

His treatment options are chemo or steroids. On steroids, it is hoped the tumour will slow a bit or even shrink. He has started steroids, thanks to @Brunneria 's great idea of hiding the tabs in Brussels pate, and is now very hungry all the time! Hopefully he will beef up a bit. On steroids his life expectancy is a few weeks. It was a heartbreaking decision to not go down the chemo route. We want to do the best for him and chemo might give him a few months, but it would involve him having an operation to establish the kind of cancer then regular chemo without hope of an ultimate cure. We would rather he spent his final days playing in the garden with his brother and his human family, rather than in an unfamiliar cancer ward which he would hate. He is insured up to the ears so mercifully we did not have to consider money in this difficult decision. We have no idea when he will leave us, depends on whether the tumour shrinks/grows/causes a blockage and for how long the steroids are effective.

Meanwhile he is being spoiled rotten, as always! Vet says to let him eat whatever he wants. He has lots of cuddles, his brother for company, a cat flap into a big garden with trees and bushes, 24 hour room service, not a bad life at all X
 
I think you've done the right thing Avacado. Cats are just brilliant and you want him to be happy. When my last cat died, I vowed never to have another as it was like losing a child she she left but now we've got another and he's just brilliant.

Sorry about you kitty, Deb x Thanks too. It seemed counterintuitive to choose the option which means a shorter life. With cats I think it is about quality of life. They are too sensitive and dignified for invasive treatment, I think. To put him though it would be more for our benefit, not his, so I think (hope) we have made the right decision for him.



On topic: I have a quiche in the oven. If it comes out ok, I'll take a photo. If not, I'll google a lovely looking one and claim it as my own
 
Glad to hear that kitty is getting to enjoy his last weeks rather than be subjected to every test and treatment under the sun. Not all vets are as focused on the animal as they ought to be. Just enjoy spoiling him for as long as possible. I'm thinking of sticking my Metformin in some pate.
We are on to cat number 13( poor thing- a stray that turned up after our farm was hit by a tornado last year) and have lost them to road accidents and illness. It's never easy, but you can only do what is right for them and yourselves. xx

ps how willl we be able to tell which quiche it is?
 
@cold ethyl if you put your metformin in pate, you have to roll the pate into a little ball then lick it until you accidentally swallow it. Good luck lol

I think you can tell that it's my own quiche as it looks like it has been dropped from a great height. Should have left it in the dish a bit to cool before turning it out.

Breakfast: cheesy omelette

Lunch: Greek yogurt, blueberries, almonds and cinnamon. Creamy decaf.

Dinner: crustless quiche made with quorn sausages and veg

Lemon and ginger tea. Some almonds, 1 slice Livlife toast and peanut butter (less peanut butter to help with DP)

Tin of tuna and an avocado, 9 bar pumpkin and some berries

Square of dark choc and some hazlenuts, can of coke zero

Pork loin steak with cauliflour cheese bake. Instant berry ice cream - oh wow!
 
quiche looks good. I'm sure I can lick my pate into balls. I hate swallowing tablets.
 
Quorn sausages, mushrooms, tomato, tsp pickle
Tuna and feta salad
Belly pork, cauli cheese, runner beans and broccoli and tbsp carrots and gravy
greek yogurt and tbsp flaxseed
 
I may ask for that if my gagging gets worse again. I suffer from globus hystericus on top of a hair trigger gag reflex so tablets are hard work sometimes. thanks x
 
On waking: 2 medium Brazils. Like these better than cheese strings or cashews. Won't be getting tired of then for a long time.
Brekkie: left over cheese string. Not enough, but I was short of time. It knocked me off balance for the rest of the day.
Elevenses: Moser Roth mini choc bar
Lunch: mug of veg soup and half a pot of hummus. Not enough food, so I was hungry by 3.30. Knew I wouldn't make it til 5 without food, had nothing with me, so I raided the Daemonic Machine for a snickers.
Snack: so my BG was dropping fast during the 5.15 dog walk, and had to snaffle a 9bar.
Dinner: Turkey leg biryani with Zero Noodles

Not one of my better days

Protein shake ( added some linseed and tsp rolled oats) will leave the oats out tomorrow, they sank to the bottom and were manky to chug at end

Fry up, farmers sausages, bacon, mushrooms, fried egg and tomato.
Succumbed to 3 rich tea biccies

Som tam again, can live on this if the papaya wasn't so dam expensive here, cheese and a few pork scratchings,

I had a yoghurt, and I'm confused on what one to buy, I got Rachel's Greek style with coconut as it was 10g fat, but it's carbs are 10.4g of which sugar is 10g - wrong one right ?

All that I look for that have high fat, also seem to have high sugar, any recommendations please ?

Will test at 2 but I'm certain will be high!!

Hi,
If you are eating yog regularly, I heartily recommend Easiyo. It works out a bit cheaper than bought yogs, but there are also other benefits.
  • You make up a litre at a time
  • It's incredibly easy to make - foolproof
  • It is far fresher than shop bought
  • Chock full of friendly bacteria
  • You can add cream to up the fat content
  • The Greek yog is delicious
  • There are fruit flavours that are sweetened by stevia
  • It keeps 2 weeks in fridge.
Sorry if I sound like an advert, but I think it is the best (and nicest) yog around.

I would eat it every day, if that amount of milk didn't give me psoriasis.

Mind you, I'm inspired to make some up tonight...

Oh, poor you, hope you've had something to numb the pain.

It's just that a couple of us on here have been doing the LCHF diet for a month or so and we have both suffered from the high fat bit. I'm just speaking personally now, but that bit of the diet didn't suit my digestive-ness ( is that a word?) . My friend found some articles saying there were increased cases of heart disease in some scandinavian countries where a lot of people were following this diet. I always had a problem with the thought of high fat, and I didn't / couldn't maintain it, that's probably why I felt exhausted, I wasn't having enough fat and protein to keep my energy levels up. If you eat cream and cheese and full fat everything, it's got to have an effect on arteries. So with me having heart problems already, I just couldn't risk it. Sorry if it's not what you wanted to hear love. xx
