what i do and don't eat

I've cut out chip shop food, mcdonalds, kfc, burger king, subway, chips and fries, pizzas, white bread, white rice, whitepasta, white sugar, big potatoes, fizzy drinks which aren't diet or sugar free, cakes, biscuits, crisps, sweets, chocolates, sweetcorn.

I eat steak, chicken, fish, veg, pilau and brown rice, sweet or new potatoes, diet and sugar free fizzy drinks, brown or granary bread, sausage, bacon, eggs , beans. Could i live the rest of my life comfortably eating only these foods?

Hi,Sade

With control,yes
However when you see "sugar free" what have they done with chemicals to make that product sweet.
Also be careful when they print "healthy" "less fat" etc; (you never see healthy printed on fresh fruit & veg.
I am on a odd diet, therefore not one to start preaching as you may think I have lost the plot.
At the end of the day you must choose what is working well for your body,

Beat of luck and enjoy your good food, in moderation.

Roy.

Sounds pretty good to me. Just watch the sugar in the baked beans and some brown bread is malted highly processed flour so go for multi-grain when you can

Can I just ask why you are eating like this? I think it's great I eat pretty much similar to that but no beans tho just meat, fish, veg some fruit Greek yog brown rice turkey sausages ie lean meat it's good at keeping bg low and I take alot less insulin aswell xx

How long have you been doing this and have you lost/gained weight or got better control since you dietary change?

i havent changed much yet. been 6wks since diagnosed. will b changing 2 brown & granary bread though pretty quick as my levels were going sky high last wk after eating white rolls 4 lunch with thin ham toms & MAYO.

Get used to reading the panels on the backs of packaged foods. The traffic lights don't give enough information on carbs!
Recognise which foods are high carb [ such as anything derived from grain in any way and most root vegetables] and keep the quantities under control.
You don't have to avoid fast food places totally. MacDonalds do a nice chicken salad. Pret a manger have a couple of superb low carb salads KFC chicken is nice if you don't have much crumb coating Chip shop fish with it's batter discarded is lovely.

Hi,
See what spikes your post prandial with a meter. I would be surprised if you'll be able to eat much sausage with potatoes or bread!
I do not eat more than 150 grams of potato or bread, and don't eat them at the same time.

No cakes, no scones and no sweets, no sugar...try sugar reduced bake beans if you like beans.
Eat plenty of low GI veg and moderate amounts of lowish GI fruit.
(I am 91 kilos know with a BMI of less than 24.)

The only way to get one's blood glucose down without medication is a ruthless diet...and btw the weight will drop off as well.

There's no need to restrict the following foods: lamb, beef, pork, duck, seafood, greek yoghurt, cheese, butter and cream.
If you want a lower carb alternative to bread, crispbread tastes just as good and has less than half the carbs.
