Hello!

What is Glucose-Responsive Insulin? What's its structure? What's its function?

Thanks!

This is a type one question.
I have just googled it, as I have never heard of it before.
It is a synthetic insulin, that is designed to control blood sugar levels in T1s.

There are a number of pieces of research looking at "Smart Insulin". Essentially what it does is "coat" the insulin molecules with some form of glucose sensitive material that stops the insulin from working until glucose in the blood reaches a certain concentration, at which point the insulin is released.

You can think of it like a molecular artificial pancreas system. I wrote a little about some of the challenges here: http://www.diabettech.com/jdrf/smar...-what-lessons-can-the-latter-give-the-former/
