Prediabetes What next?

I rang the gp and asked for a print out of blood results and I can collect them later this week!

Also they’ve asked me to come in for another blood test. A repeat vitamin D test and a PTH test. Which is a parathyroid test. I asked why these where needed when I was told my previous blood test showed no abnormalities, she said it’s just what the dr asked for. Looked up PTH and it doesn’t seem related to diabetes at all, so could be a whole new problem...

If I have understood his recent post correctly, he believes there is nothing, neither diet no any other measure, which can help halt or slow progression towards full diabetes. It's all in our genes. So what point posting?
 
I agree that the crossover point is something that can be avoided ... maybe. Quite often is, sometimes not

It was just his perspective and take on things.

Indeed. But the fatalistic "Nothing to be done about diabetes progression" viewpoint is very prevalent outside this Forum and potentially very harmful. At least here it does need to be challenged. (And is, which is part of what makes this Forum SO valuable.)

While pregnant I was given a testing kit and got lancets and strips on prescription. But that brand of kit is too expensive to continue. So that’s for the links, I’m going to buy a kit with less expensive testing strips.

You would be a very lucky lady if you got a meter and strips on prescription. They are given for gestational, and to anyone on insulin or certain strong drugs if they drive or operate machinery. Even if you got one it would have expensive strips that would need to be supplemented as the amount they give you is insufficient.

I can't comment on the PTH as I know nothing about thyroid issues, but it is always worth having a vitamin D test. Good luck with them, and ask for print outs of those, too.

Are you in England? If so, your surgery is likely to put test results on-line as asked to do before May 2016 and I believe most surgeries do this. You would have to ask how to register for it. I have mine, and they are up on the screen in about 24 hours after having the test.

Yes England. I asked about it today. We have a system called ‘SystmOnline’ and we can book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, see general information. There is a section called results and when you click on it, it says ‘access denied’ my gp surgery said they hide results as it causes confusion to patients. Instead they keep them private and the Gp explains on the phone.

I wonder if they would make an exception for you? I had to complete a consent form which went off to the GP who agreed I could see mine. They obviously have the software to allow it.

Often, autoimmune issues don't come alone. Rheumatism & hypothyroidism were in my life before diabetes reared its head. So it is worth checking it out, also because a thyroid problem can affect your bloodsugar levels. (It did mine. And as a diet controlled T2 I'm, I heard, not supposed to get hypo's. But my mucked up thyroid decided differently. It's why I can't go properly keto.). It's all a lot to take in, but you're taking charge and taking an interest. And *should* your thyroid be wonky, it's good to have it sorted too.
 
Oh, and I went to a dietician years ago for morbid obesity. She told me to eat more carbs, and more than one meal a day. (I didn't eat much, but drank a lot of sugary coffee and coke during the day to keep me going). Loading up on carbs? It didn't help. At all. If she'd told me to go low carb I would've dropped weight AND avoided becoming a diabetic while in my 30's... The perpetual fat-myth is making entire generations overweight. It's the carbs, not the fat... I wish I knew then what I know now...! Ah well. ‍*facepalm*

In addition to getting test results you will also be able too book appointments and request repeat prescriptions. It has changed my life!

I have the same system at my surgery and after completing the form and showing photo id, the doctor signed off the form so I could see my results within 5 days.

Ask for the form, the first receptionist I asked did not even know about the forms so keep asking.

Can I suggest you go to your profile settings and change your status from gestational to pre-diabetic? Gestational diabetes is very different from the other types, and may cause quite a bit of confusion when people respond to you.
 
Thanks for all the help guys. I now have access to all my blood work online. It’s fab.
Pretty much every number is in the middle of the normal range for everyone. Even fasting glucose was 4.2.
It’s only the HbA1c that’s high and ferratin levels low (although iron levels are fine)
