What to do next ....

I am also wondering, at 51, if it has anything to do with female hormone upheaval especially cortisole and adrenaline?

I struggled in my first 6-8 weeks to get my morning level down - I was running in low 7's to start with - but after seeing the thread that @Brunneria posted reference the DP I tried eating something last thing at night and it did the trick for me - I have a small piece of cheese, spread with a tiny amount of peanut butter - last thing before going to bed - my morning levels now typically high 5's low 6's - we all work differently but it made an immediate difference to me. You have already made great progress so don't get too disheartened - also I believe the fasted levels are the last to fall in line - so you may yet see some improvements if you carry on doing the right things for long enough.

@Brunneria, that's a good trick. I will try it. I need something!
I always eat the same breakfast more or less. 10g. It normalises my BGs down from the fasting level.
Some people recommend skipping meals but I find fasting sends my BGs UP.
For the last few weeks my fasting levels have been going up, from 7+ to 9.0+, which has alarmed me too, I have dropped my carbs to under 40, but that doesn't help.
I wonder if I am fighting a low grade infection. I had a cold three weeks ago that has left me with a lingering cough.

My fasting glucose levels are consistently above 8mmol/l - I think because my liver is enthusiastically breaking down fat now that I have stopped wanting it to deal with sugar. I am torn between letting it get on with the job, as it is doing what I need it to do, or keeping to the fasting limits of low carbing.

I have had a battle with DP and have tried having some low carb last thing before bed but it made no difference in fact I have tried everything (diabetes related !!) I have not had any weight to lose because I was under weight at diagnosis but I have battled on with low carb and high fat and as many calories as I can eat and now my Hba1c is 43 but morning levels are 8 -9 Could it be that became I am under weight my liver is working overtime in case I starve before breakfast ? I do eat before getting up (Got a good husband ) Any ideas ?

I am reassured that there are others like me whose livers do their own thing on LCHF.
I can't handle the drugs so unless I am willing to nag my doctor for insulin I just have to live with variable BGs sometimes well above the ideal.
The reassuring thing is that a fasting level of 8.5 is a lot better than 14.0 (a level I have seen at times) and the body amazingly heals itself from periods of high levels.

That is the thing about HbA1c tests. Mine is the same as yours according to your signature (5.9%) but I never see 8s at any time of day almost always 5s and 6s with a few 4s and the very rare 7, and no DP to speak of, and I use Libre sensors that confirm all this...

In truth my Hb of 5.9 was until two years ago, when I stopped LCHF. For the first year I saw no change in my numbers, then in the second year they escalated very rapidly up to Hb of 8.0
I tried Metformin but it was awful so I returned to low carbing. It has dropped my self tested numbers back sharply, to the low 7.0s, but recently they have climbed over 9.0 for no apparent reason.
My self tested BG has never in seven years got below 6.0, although very occasionally it has gone just below 5.0. Of course the Hb numbers are lower than the self testing numbers as they don't measure the samething. So if the Hb is below 6.0 that means I am probably running an average of below 7.8.
I am awaiting result of my most recent Hb test, and wondering if it has gone up, down or sideways. When I know, I will have to change that old 5.9 reading.

I think I have worked out why my BG has suddenly shot up so alarmingly. Stress.
One of my children is very ill and is getting worse. I realised that the constant adrenaline surges I am experiencing also put your blood glucose up.
