What to do with all the foodstuffs I can no longer eat

I have recently been diagnosed with type 2. I have had depression for 40 years with anhedonia but strangely the one thing that has endured is my love of cooking. I've built up many years of culinary skills and it is a great loss for me that I will no longer be needing these skills - no more preserves making, bread making, pasta making, baking skills etc. Does anyone have any good advice as to what I should do with all my non diabetes friendly foods. I live alone with no friends or family but throwing it away seems a waste?

@spiralstaircase46 . Firstly, I don’t believe you won’t have the opportunity to use your baking skills in the kitchen. There are many low carb recipes on line, including low carb bread, cakes and biscuits. Virtually anything Googled with low carb or keto in front will show up an adapted version. Here’s a few sites:

With regard to stuff you need to get rid of, unopened stuff could always be donated to a food bank, while equipment could go to a charity shop.

Edit to add, sorry rude of me not to welcome to the forum, just realised this is your first post.

Many supermarkets take food donations for food banks. I gave away several items to friends and then what they didn't normally eat went to a food bank through the local Waitrose.

Most Type 2's in here who bake, still bake but they bake Keto/Low carb items instead of the carby stuff they used to. There are lots recipes online for low carb versions of bread etc.

Your cookery skills will hold you in great stead, there are some wonderful low carb recipes all over the internet and indeed in this forum for low carb goodies and meals both savoury and sweet, it’s a big learning curve but you have good knowledge you’ll do fine just give yourself time to digest the changes.

As to things you no longer can use like others said food banks or maybe if you have a local charity that is doing cooking classes and meals for those who need them maybe take them there, or a homeless charity etc. if your on Facebook on your local page you could pop them on there, I’ve done that in the past. Churches and charities are always looking for stuff for raffles, hampers etc.

You can still do some baking of cakes etc but use fruit instead of added sugar, no sugary cream or topping. So not so much of the trendy cakes of today but the more basic cakes our Mum's made. For main meals you can still make casseroles, soups and so on.

Anything unopened and in date that I definitely wasn't going to use went either to friends or to a local charity. It was a bit more complex as my other half wasn't (at the time) low-carbing: so I kept hold of some pasta and rice etc. Even though we've generally become a much more experienced low-carb household in the years since, we still have a good number of "off-my-list" items in the cupboard for her and for guests.
