I
I totally get what you are saying. I am pleased I am not the only one who had to follow certain procedures that would ensure "the baddies" kept away. Even today I am quite sensitive to "atmospheres".
Yes, the bikes went really fast. I really don't know what possessed us to do that as it was so dangerous. We were so lucky.I bet you went very fast down that hill on your bikes to race the lorries...more dangerous than railway lines methinks!
That's one thing I never did...I never climbed trees...
@ianpspurs as sometimes happens the day did not go to plan. This time in a good way.A bright, clear and chill morning in Breckland. Fbg 5.4 (best of 3 scans on 2 devices) along with other non course and distance winners suggests something is orf but not urgent. I am overdue some camera work and blood letting, which would reveal more than the blunt and unreliable instrument of bg. Blow that for a game of soldiers right now however much I trust Addenbrookes.. @SlimLizzy I hope the barn work and hedging plant search go well. The heavy work suits your fbg. Take care, be enraptured if at all possible and avoid being dismantled like a Duplo trainset.

I did become a very safe cyclist until a white van came out of a side turning 15 years ago and hit me side on. I lost my nerve after that and gave up cycling.
A very strong drawing - Is it my imagination or can I even see the face of a tree spirit in there as well?Today's effort, can't face watercolour painting today and so sat in the garden soaking up Vitamin D. On my bike ride today I passed through ancient Oak Woods at Brocton, 800 year old Oaks and decided for drama I need one in my next landscape so decided to do a quick layout sketch of the oak. A3 on black paper, no idea why I chose black, Oil Pastels with a limited pallet of colour and softening in the hot sun, 40 minutes. Thumbnail shows my pastels which I have had years.

@gennepher You have reminded me of the face in my bedroom door. It was in the woodgrain, but not all the time. As a child, I was terrified of it. Could not close my eyes if it was there.I hid at the bottom of the bed from stuff and was terrified of under the bed as a child. And more things.
The upstairs toilet was another problem when I was a child. And linoleum on the bedroom floor. I would scream until someone had carried me from bed to attic landing when I awoke. If I stepped on that linoleum, immediately I awoke, the witches would get me. But they once I had stepped foot on the attic landing bare wooden floorboards, I could then walk back over the bedroom linoleum because I was now protected.
I still really do not like linoleum...
I am remembering loads more!!!!
good evening all
was 4.6 this morning
Memorably scary when I was a small child was the stuffed baby crocodile that used to live on the landing at my grandparents house, You'd better believe I galloped past it when I had to go to the bathroom. I believe some 'generous' friend of my grandad's brought it back from a trip overseas as a gift, it disappeared in a house move shortly afterwards
As a child I only tried climbing big trees once whilst outside playing with my older cousins, I fell and tried to grab the trunk resulting in skinning both my palms, not an activity to repeat, plus I still have the scar on my leg incurred whilst playing 'pirates walking the plank' across the builders' plank he'd left over a drainage trench, result of a nasty gash because of the nail still in the plankDon't think I'm fated to deal well with heights
I'm glad (and amazed) we all made it so far
Hope your day is treating you kindly
@gennepher a colourful scene today, I particularly like sky and the trees on the left. The yellow is strong but it still feels balanced on my screen.
@Muddy Cyclist - a different take today, I love the big old oak tree it has a very strong graphic quality. I've never tried pastels so far.
Today's art catch up -
no 1 - just by way of a change, a doodle done with a biro and a couple of coloured pencils on the back of an envelope whilst on the phone.

no 2 - quite a different style for me, this is my (poor) attempt at a copy of an image by Robert Steele who is a painter/illustrator, I love his use of colour, very delicate and balanced warm vs cool. (once again an image found on Pinterest)

Hugs for you @SlimLizzy for that face in the wood grain. For me too, they appeared from time to time, and other times you cannot find it.@gennepher You have reminded me of the face in my bedroom door. It was in the woodgrain, but not all the time. Wonderful - I get a feeling of anticipation as the light begins to reflect off the surface of the plants.Out early with my soft pastels this morning, for my daily painting challenge to myself.
A quickie. Took me 15 mins.
I have a commission to do for a friend of The Rocky Mountains, so that will be me kept busy in the sunshine working in the shade of my willow tree today.

A lovely painting - how on earth did you do it in 15 minutes. It looks like you spent hours on it.Out early with my soft pastels this morning, for my daily painting challenge to myself.
